  • "On the afternoon we arrived we had an issue with no lighting upstairs and limited sockets working on both floors."

After resetting trip switches problem persisted so contacted owner who was really helpful and managed to get an electrician our the following morning to isolate the fault so we had lights. Owner kept in touch, updating me on progress throughout. The property is lovely and is only let down by the mattresses (we used the twin and ensuite rooms only) as they are incredibly uncomfortable and in need of replacement - my elderly parents certainly felt it after a two week stay in the house.

Thank you for taking time to write the review and we appreciate your custom. We would like to host you again soon. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely spacious house, in a great location."

This was our second visit here as the children throughly enjoyed their first stay and our trip to the IOW. The beds aren’t particularly comfortable and the pillows are like cotton wool, so we took our own pillows this time around. The beds/bedding smelt a bit damp, I thought this was a one off but I noticed it on both stays. Otherwise though, the house is nice, clean and tidy.

  • "The holiday was spoilt by living on a building site which especially impacted the amount of car parking."

I think we should have been notified of this in advance. Apart from that it was a very functional building set in a good location from which to explore the island.

  • "This is a lovely modern house l felt it is slightly let down interior wise it is not in keeping with the lovely quality house."

The cutlery is very cheap, the pillows are very cheap and thin, one of the beds at the front has quite a dip in the middle interior could of been better to match the house.

Noise from the hotel was a problem until midnight. The parking slot was not clear at first and no instructions were left. Beds were uncomfortable.

  • "Property was very clean and tidy on arrival and all amenities were provided, including toilet rolls and hand wash in all toilets / bathrooms."

Good location in terms of proximity to beach and kids play facilities being in easy walking distance of Sandham Gardens, Dinosaur Isle and the IOW Animal Sanctuary. Around a 10 minute walk to the pier. Earlier reviews had commented on the evening noise from nearby Hotels etc. We didn't find it to be particularly loud or disruptive, no more than you would expect when the property is located centrally in a seaside resort. The early morning sea gulls made more noise !! Currently there is building work going on just 20 yards or so from the property. Doesn't make for a great view but not a major issue. Work started each weekday morning around 7:30 finishing about 16:30. There was some low level noise but since we had young children in our party we were up and about before the workers started so no real issue to us. The property comes with one reserved parking space. There are a number of visitor's spaces. We had 2 cars in our party. Having been out for the day and returning before 16:30 all visitor's spaces were taken up by the construction workers. Fortunately the property is directly opposite to Fort Street long stay car park which has plenty of spaces available, so we would park there and then move the car when the construction workers had left for the day. So no big deal. I felt that the towels provided weren't of a great quality and that perhaps the bathrooms could have benefitted from some shelving to hold toiletries etc.. Other than that a nice property in a convenient location overall. Thanks.

Thanks so much Michael for an honest review. Hoping to see you and beautiful family again soon. Property Owner

  • "Had a great week, helped by the unbelievable weather!"

Pros: Good, clean accommodation in fantastic location close to a safe, sandy beach. Cons: Very close to hotel which has loud music every night until just before 11. Since it was hot we had to have bedroom windows open. Air con would have helped. The outside terrace is very overlooked so we didn't use it, which was a shame. The site is still being developed but I must say, it did not bother us at all. Oh, and the cutlery needs upgrading - those knives! ;-)

  • "Should have been a good place for us and the grandkids but one big problem."

The accommodation is really good and the location was excellent particularly with the kids in mind - short walk to both the beach and nearby Sandham gardens. The big problem though is the NOISE factor. Behind the property is a hotel that had very loud live music on every night until around 11pm. I appreciate the owners can do nothing about the noise but I would have expected details of the potential noise to be included in the description of the property so that people can make a choice on whether this bothers them or not. Personally if I had known these facts when I made the booking I would never have booked - shame really because everything else was really good

Thanks David for the feedback and we are happy to know your stay in the house was excellent. Property Owner

  • "It’s a very nice property with a short walk into Sandown and the beach, however there is a big problem with the noise."

There is building work nearby starting from 8am, and then there is a hotel which adjoins the property patio. The hotel plays loud music during the day and every evening until around 11pm. During the summer with the windows open you can hear all the music and it’s not really possible to enjoy the patio area. If you have small children the noise will be an issue at bedtime. We have contacted the owner and asked them to let guests know about this, as it’s not clearly stated in the property details.

  • "Beautiful house."

Immaculately clean. Great location. Please be aware if booking though it’s location means it’s very noisy every evening ( I assume only a seasonal issue and obviously no fault of the owner) The other side of the garden fence is a pub garden which has very loud live music every night until 11pm. This makes it very difficult to enjoy the garden in the evening and it could be a problem for those of you with young children as two of the bedrooms back onto it. Apart from the noisy pub property is a fantastic place to stay to enjoy the Isle of Wight.

Tracey, we are excited you enjoyed the house and your holiday. We adhere to strict hygiene and cleanliness to make the house homely and a fantastic place to stay. See you soon and thank you. Property Owner

Perfect for our party. Beautiful house. Just one hick up in that we had 1 twin bedded room when we wanted 3 doubles. We tried twice to get the bed configuration changed but no one responded to us. Not the end of the world I suppose.

  • "The double bed listed was not a double bed but two single beds joined together."

It was not what we expected. The beds were super uncomfortable! The mattresses need changing! Really bad night sleep and ended the holiday with back pain. Location was really good and the place was very clean. Good parking. Three toilets was very useful for the three couples staying. One was ensuite.

Sorry Meena, you felt that way. All our mattresses are brand new and sourced from a reputable company. It is listed on website as queen size beds that can be split upon request so what do you expect? They are standard queen size zip and link beds. We try our best to satisfy every customer but its unfortunate you felt this way, thank you for your comments. It is a great location, very close to amenities. It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming on arrival. Rooms are all of generous proportions and it sits just a stone’s throw away from the beach. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could think of, (there is an internal cutlery/utensil drawer, maybe it was missed by previous guests) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to book again.

  • "The property was lovely but there was insufficient eg: a motley collection of 6 wine glasses, insufficient plates and only 4 mugs for 6 people and an advocate mixture of cutlery."

Labels hadn’t been removed from the appliances which clearly showed insufficient preparation for guests. What ruined our stay was arriving to a house which was 14 •c inside in December. The inefficient underfloor heating took 5 hours to get to 18•c and the first evening was spent in overcoats. We weren’t impressed by the inflexibility of Sykes and the owner to allow us an hour extra to leave despite the fact that there were no other bookings in the immediate future. Such a shame, a lovely property is being so mismanaged.

Thank you Caroline for the feedback. Customer satisfaction is vital to us. There is a capacity for 6 people hence the necessary arrangements are always made to ensure high standards and guest comfort. Property Owner

We had little to fault but our negative comments would be the towels were to small and only 1 per person so if you wanted to wash and dry hair it was difficult. Also there was no facility for food waste ( there was a food bin on the patio but it didn’t look like it had been used and there was no evidence of anyone putting out food bins . These are very minor negatives and we loved it so much we have booked again for next year

  • "An excellent new house, in an ideal location that is let down by the equipment and bedding."

The house furnishings have an unfinished feel. We had a feeling that the property was rushed onto the market with little thought given to the needs of the guests. There was a significant shortage of cutlery for example and that which was provided was of poor quality. There was only one small sharp knife so there was no means to cut a loaf or carve a joint. There were no baking trays. In fact kitchen utensils were in very short supply. In fact we have stayed in many self catering properties over the years and this was the most inadequately equipped that we have experienced. A washing machine was fitted in the kitchen, but there was only one small collapsable airer, no dryer and no line outside, so a family would have found drying washing impossible. The furniture and bedding in the bedroom definitely need attention. The pillows were very poor quality and uncomfortable. The bedding was also pretty poor. When we stripped the bed, the duvet stuck to the cover, so either the cleaners had spilt liquid on it or it had not been changed after the previous guests, ugh! My wife struggled to find anywhere to satisfactorily store jewellery and there was no practical place to apply make up because there was no appropriate shelving in the bathrooms or the bedrooms. When we came to clean before we left we found a sweeping brush and a vacuum cleaner, but no dustpan. We had to sweep and then vacuum up the bits. In concluding we had an excellent holiday which was marred not by the property, which could have been lovely, but by the owners lack of attention to the needs of their guests.
