"Everything was to our satisfaction."
Comfortable and very quiet.

"Lovely little unit by a (steep) walk to a private cove with sea glimpse on the horizon."
We met the owner who was very friendly and welcoming, he stressed to call if anything was needed. Good size parking space via a lane next to the Botanical Gardens and hand towels, soap and washing up liquid and drying towels provided (which we weren’t expecting). Barbeque and private gravelled yard in a quiet setting- fantastic find

"We had a wonderful 2 weeks in the fisherman's cottage, we took our dog Mac and he loved the wonderful coastal walks straight from the cottage."
On our arrival the cottage seemed a little small but after a day or so we got used to it with everything you need at hand and the spectacular views of the sea, my wife and I both play table tennis and had many games in the games room. Overall a wonderful holiday.

"What a lovely relaxed holiday we had ."
King size bed wonderful sea views very friendly and welcoming owner.Everything us two and Freddy the cockapoo could dream of thank so much Penny.

"The property was in a fantastic location, but could do with a little TLC, just little things need attention such as the loose loo roll holder and the hook to hold the back door open is falling off."
I would also recommend that the description is updated as the cottage is not now five minutes walk from the beach due to the ravages of the weather and the closure of the coastal path. The site as a whole was wonderful and it was great having holidaying neighbours!

"Just right for a lovely weekend away with our whippet."
Wonderful to hear the waves. So close to the beautiful Steephill Cove and secluded beaches. Great coastal walks straight from the cottage. Lots of fun playing table tennis and table football.

"Thank you to Robert, Clare and Penny on arrival."
My stay was comfortable and convenient for all the local amenities. A beautiful location, stunning views of the undercliff, and across the coastline. Great value for money. Couple of observations hence the 'good' feedback: 1. The shower cubicle leaked a little 2. The mirror I banged my head on and it fell off (in the bedroom) 3. The bed rocks a little. It may need attention. But more importantly, the owners are quick to react to any issues with a no nonsense approach. The property is great value, cosy, uniquely located gem. A short 25 minute walk into town past the Botanic garden on the coastal path, grab a drink and food at the Spyglass Inn, walk along the beach, then its full relaxation back at the Fisherman's cottage and beautiful surroundings. I would definitely return using their other Lobsterpot or Beachcomers accommodation. Next time with the whole family. I am sure my parents and my son would love it here.

"The sofa was a bit uncomfortable and the floor could do with a rug as a bit cold."
The location was ideal but directions could contain some distances.

"Firstly, I have to say that the location of the property is second to none - absolutely stunning."
We would be eager to return for that alone, notwithstanding some issues with the holiday property. Fisherman's Cottage does have a few issues, most of which could be addressed simply and without major expense. One issue is more of a problem that does require thought and investment if the owners aim is to get top rating. Positives: Location. Being situated next to the Ventnor Botanic Garden is a major plus for us. It is truly magnificent with its unique microclimate. Steephill Cove is magical and the Beach Hut and Crab Hut are awesome, and just five minutes walk away. The view are fabulous, and the Coastal Path runs right past the property. For my wife and me, it is hard to imagine a better location! Owners: Very friendly and helpful. They have created what has clearly been a wonderful haven for families and couples. Value: Overall, we felt that the cottage offered great value for money, particularly being located in an area which would normally command a premium. Negatives: Cleanliness - Really, this could have been better. We are not over-zealous people, putting on white gloves to inspect for a little dust on the architraves, but the place was really grubby. We had to give the kitchen a deep clean before we felt comfortable having a cup of tea. Decor and fittings: Generally shabby and a tad past their sell by. The vertical blinds in the conservatory-cum-lounge were broken and ineffective. Shower/lavatory: Extremely small and cramped. Larger people might really find it a problem. Also, the seal on the shower cubicle has failed so water spills out onto the floor. The owners are aware of this problem and are seeking to fix it as soon as possible. Conservatory/lounge: This is the major problem. It is a wooden lean-to structure, a few years old, with ineffective double glazing, in a somewhat tatty condition, and only really usable when the outside temperature is neither hot or cold. It is the only place where you can sit and relax (apart from the pleasant courtyard outside) and becomes stiflingly hot even on moderately warm autumn days. We are sure that on colder days, the lack of insulation would render it unusable, leaving only the couple of bistro-style chairs in the tiny kitchen to sit on for rest and recouperation. Maybe this would be a great place for spring and autumn days, but would be intolerable in the height of summer of winter .... unless the owners invest in a proper lounge extension to replace the conservatory.

"I feel the property could do with a complete overhaul it needs a lot of maintenance (lots of small things that need to be improved the kitchen and bathroom taps leak!"
The shower looks like instead of repairing the shower tray properly they have just used a whole tube of silicone to stop the leaks and I feel it could hold a lot of germs and bacteria! The conservatory was like an oven! It was lucky we had bought 2 extra fans with us but even then it was impossible to sit in there! A fan was in the bedroom but was nowhere enough! The actual property was dirty and needed a good clean before we actually could feel that it was safe to have a cup of tea after arriving ! The washing up bowl was filthy with old tea stains and lots of long hair all at the bottom so we went and purchased a new bowl! Feel that I was constantly wiping everything down with antibacterial spray and wipes! Saying that we enjoyed the area, plenty to do, that doesn’t cost the earth! I never normally leave a review like this as have always had a good experience with Sykes but feel I have to be honest for future guests!

"Oh dear! Generally very tired and not very clean."
Check the shower area. Sharp bits on the stair treads. Hot water tap in toilet makes horrible noise. Blinds broken and taped up - not working very well. Sofa most uncomfortable particularly the arms. Not enough space in the bedroom to get between bed and wardrobe. Outside table no use as glasses slide off due to slope! I could go on.... Very nice location and lovely lizards!

"Easy booking all was as it looked."
had a brilliant week.

"Very cosy cottage with beautiful sea views."
We loved Ventnor town and local beach. Nice restaurants with very friendly staff. Would love to come back again so relaxing

"Blissful Thank you"

"Perfect little cottage - ideal spot for a relaxing break."
Great view from the cottage and perfectly placed for beaches and walks along the Undercliff. Look forward to a return visit in the future.
-
"An absolute gem of a cottage."
Small, cosy but well equiped. The only thing missing was a welcome pack, explaining how things work. We only found out how the cooker egnited without matches on the last day! Fantastic view, lovely walks. Perfect holiday.
-
"Swimming in the cove just below the cottages; driving round to tour villages in the lovely IoW landscape; walking round the botanic gardens next door; the beach at St Helens; the coastal walk into Ventnor;bicycling to Niton."
-
"Super location."
It would have been good to know the beach, which was nearby, was reached down steps and then straight onto an array of boulders, which a dog or older person would not manage. Very comfortable bed. Great view. Very close to Ventnor Botanic Gardens, which are superb.

"The owners of the farm were really lovely, and what a beautiful location!"
! The bathroom is very small, but its compact & bijou overall, but perfect for our stay with amazing weather!

"This rental was such a dream."
I loved the close access to the secluded bay and views of the water from the living room. I didn't have a car with me but everything was easily accessed (though quite hilly) and very dog-friendly. the nearby botanical garden cafe was perfect for a coffee and the grocery delivery worked nicely. the kitchen had a good array of pots/pans. the space is compact but really cosy, clean, and functional. the wifi was too slow to stream tv/videos but the tv worked fine. I really liked to leave the window shades open in the living room to look at the water but because the space is all glass it meant less privacy. my dog and I had a perfect week here!

"Cottage is offered with shared game room."
Unfortunately the owner has decided that due to covid restrictions the games room will be allocated to one of 3 cottages only. They have set up a second dedicated games facility. Unfortunately Fisherman’s Cottage is the one of three that has no such facilities. It would have been nice to have been advised of this before travelling. The first few days of the holiday the weather was not good so use of such a facility would have been great. Fortunately we had taken a selection of dvds with us, so had alternative entertainment. Would suggest you don’t advertise this facility for Fisherman’s Cottage until the owners are able to offer this.

"The location was fantastic."
If I could change anything I would increase the wifi speed and maybe put curtains at front door instead of blinds, more dog friendly. It was very good value for money. Thanks

The cottage was small and compact but perfectly formed The beach has been ravaged by the sea and is now a pile of rocks Overall the cottage is perfect for a couple and the views amazing Very clean and comfortable We would certainly book again in the future and Sykes will be the preferred choice

"The cottage is tiny and this needs to be covered in the description - the lack of space has been commented on with several other reviews."
The whole ground floor is approx 7m x 3m and he conservatory is the living room - again not made clear. The place is very basic, no tea or coffee, no instructions for anything - although there is very little to say! Several of the remote control buttons for the TV don't work at all - like the on off button for instance! The bathroom is super, super tiny and you best stay with someone you know well as you can only really dry yourself from a shower out of the bathroom - and it is easier to get up from the loo with the door open as the sink gets in the way otherwise The place is tired and could do with some tlc. The bed is very basic - no sprung mattress, and a very thin mattress so not very comfortable and the duvet only just came over the edges! No frills, very basic

"Comfortable cosy cottage, small bathroom, but ok."
Lovely spot to explore the Isle of Wight, we had a lovely week in September.

A lovely cottage for 2 adults sit inside or outside and take in the sea view also right on the Coastal Pathway also a beach that you are allowed to use steps down ok bit steep coming back up great place for peace and quiet to relax will be definitely going back next year

"We stayed here for 2 weeks in August 2019 (my husband, myself and a staffie)."
Excellent base for exploring. Very quiet and peaceful location with views over the sea. Although compact, there was everything you needed (small TV, cooker, oven, microwave, toaster) plus some extra touches such as toilet paper, washing up liquid and tea towels which were lovely. The bedding and towels were changed weekly which, again, was brilliant. The bathroom was only small with a shower cubicle but we managed. The family who run this cottage were around if needed and were always friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this cottage if visiting the Isle of Wight.

"The owners were there on arrival but that was the last we saw of them."
The property is tiny. This is not adequately covered in the description. The top-level description (Sykes Cottages) says that there is bathroom. This is in fact a tiny area (approx 8'x 3') housing the shower, a very small wash basin and the toilet. There were no tools for the BBQ that we could find (and no charcoal). The description talks of a "fantastic sitting area in a conservatory". This is in fact a tiny space into which is crammed a 2-seat settee, a TV on a display unit, and a small side table. The roof probably leaks as the tape that attaches the plastic roof to the support beams is coming away. The description says there is a "kitchen and dining area" - true but again very tiny with a circular table only about 3' across and two basic chairs, and nowhere to prepare food. The owners did not explain how to use wifi or the TV, and this information was missing from the information book. We worked out how to use the wifi on the second day of our stay, but we were unable to work out how to play a DVD. Most of the furnishings are looking dated. The location is however idyllic if you like walking and sea views.

"This cottage is in a wonderful location with spectacular views and the surrounding area is superb for walking and enjoying local attractions."
The owners are very friendly. However, the cottage itself is extremely uncomfortable due to the very old furniture and badly designed layout. The kitchen was ill equipped, we ended up buying extra equipment in order to prepare a meal. The living area which is actually a conservatory had no comfy seating and the underfloor heating was broke. The owner did bring a large heater which was fine although took up valuable space in the tiny room. The bathroom was OK although very small but the shower leaked terribly making the floor very wet. We Had thankfully brought our own fold down tables otherwise there would have been nowhere for any meal prep or to eat a meal. The bed gave us both back ache and the extremely old quilt was So Heavy we could not use it. This is definitely a summer cottage for people who like sitting and dining out.

Would highly recommend this cottage views were excellent had everything we needed thouroughly enjoyed our holiday just wish I'd of booked two weeks not one

"A very small basic cottage not really suitable for a disabled person."
The facilities within the cottage were inadequate, the shower was tight to get into and leaked, the dining table and chairs were small, metal and uncomfortable and the conservatory furniture was shabby and sagged. We did have fantastic weather and really enjoyed Ventnor. The cottage was ideally situated for touring the island and visiting the many antique shops and eating establishments. I am sure ideal too for able bodied visitors as the coastal path and local bays looked very beautiful even though we could not walk down to them.
-
"The cottage really needs some tarting up as the paintwork and decor was a little tired."
The location was fantastic and the views amazing. The proprietors were very welcoming and helpful. We are so desperate to go back to the Isle of Wight it was amazing.
-
"We were a bit disappointed with the cottage."
The sitting room /conservatory was very small and very hot. The kitchen has nowhere to put food or anywhere to prepare meals and as this is advertised as self-catering you would expect to be able to do these things. I am not a large person but if I was the shower room would be a nightmare. The whole place is tired and needs a good clean, just because we have a dog that doesn't mean we are not clean and my small dog is well trained. I spent my first day cleaning. The only good thing about the cottage was the location.
-
"The cottage was excellent for us, definitely well situated for dog walks."
However would not be suitable for less able bodied as access to cottages up a few steps. Very bad internet connection and phone signal. Having said that probably the most peaceful holiday we have ever had. Perfect.
-
"The cottage was just perfect for the two of us and our dog."
It was warm and cosy underfloor heating down stairs and an independent radiator in the bedroom. A lovely sea view, when the sun goes down there is no light pollution so you can see the moon and stars on clear nights. If it's peace and quiet you are looking for then you will find it here.
-
"Cosy cottage with a hill behind and lovely view of the sea."
Our GSD loved the field that we could use, as long as you don't go near the sheep!
-
"The cottage was smaller than I had anticipated but it did not affect our holiday ."
It had a perfect setting with amazing views the owners were lovely and made us feel very welcome
-
"The cottage, though small was perfect for my husband, dog and I."
It was peaceful, relaxing break. I would highly recommend this cottage or any of the others located there
-
"The cottage is in a fabulous location, and is just ideal for a couple with a pet, as the coastal path is within walking distance."
The owner's brochure gave good information about the local amenities, although there was no information about bin collection days, (perhaps they put them out at the end of the letting). Also, due to the size of the property there was no hoover on site, so we were unable to clean up before we left, but once again I suspect that this was done by the cleaning lady on the changeover date.

Bank End Farm Cottages
Three outstanding cottages set within an attractive open courtyard, with spectacular coastal views and direct access onto the Isle of Wight Coastal Path. These striking holiday cottages are just a short walk away from the small coves and secluded beaches of the south coast of the Isle of Wight, and are situated within 30 acres of farmland, having been lovingly converted from ancient Island Stone farm buildings, whilst retaining many of their original features. With the clever use of modern glazing, light now spills into each cottage creating a warm and welcoming feel, as well as allowing in those stunning views of the English Channel. All three cottages have been furnished to a high standard, complementing the exposed beams with quality oak and pine furnishings. They each have their own private patio area with a table, chairs and a barbecue, all perfectly positioned to allow you to fully appreciate the beautiful views of the surrounding farmland and the English Channel. A shared games room houses table tennis tables and badminton nets, and there is useful storage for bikes available, as well as designated off road parking spaces close by, along with additional undercover parking if required. The Ventnor Botanic Garden is only a short walk away, full of worldwide temperate and subtropical trees and shrubs. The area’s unusual climate is more like the Mediterranean, therefore enabling a wide variety of plants to grow and thrive here. The Garden also holds many events and exhibitions throughout the year and has a highly acclaimed café restaurant. A 10-minute walk along the Isle of Wight Coastal Path will bring you to the island’s hidden treasure, Steephill Cove, with its sand and shingle beach and fisherman’s cottages, who today still launch small boats hoping to catch crabs and lobsters for the locals. Some of these cottages have even been converted into wonderful café restaurants, where you can sample their catch directly from the sea. This delightful group of cottages are perfect for anything, from romantic retreats, to a big, family seaside holiday.
