“A lovely cottage, close to all the facilities of Shanklin.”

Nicely decorated and with a well-equipped kitchen. Lots of pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as Shanklin Chine and a steep path down to the beach.

“Kiely Cottage is a great place to stay to explore the Isle of Wight.”

Our party of four (plus dog) found the accommodation comfortable with plenty of space, enabling us to enjoy our week's stay. There were a couple of cleanliness issues as one of the bed sheets was stained and there were quite a few spiders (with webs) lurking on the ceiling. Overall the kitchen was well equipped and dishwasher tablets, washing gloves, dishcloths and washing up liquid were provided which was helpful. We couldn't find a frying pan, however, but we made do with the wok. The beach at Shanklin is under a 10 minute walk away, where the coastal path is easily accessed for walks to Ventnor and Sandown and the high street is close by with plenty of bars and restaurants. Parking was restricted outside the property - we bought a one week parking ticket which saved time and money - and parked in the public car park which was a five minute walk from the property. Overall we had a great time and would definitely return to Kiely Cottage should we be returning to the Isle of Wight.

“Well located cottage.”

Well equipped. The only drawback being no washing line as indicated by previous holidaymakers, no information about the recycle bins etc. There are dog beds and bowls at the cottage if you want to travel light. We enjoyed Shanklin, the donkey sanctuary was a great place and Ryde was lovely. Great places to eat.

The cottage was extremely well furnished catering for everything you could need in the kitchen (just couldn't find a vegetable peeler!) and very comfortable beds. We are seriously considering a return visit next year.

“The cottage was as described and suitable for our family of 4.”

Sadly, the cleanliness was not up to par. The banisters and stair rails were sticky. There were old crisps under the lounge table and an old and dirty dish cloth left for us to use? There were blankets in the lounge that smelt of wet dog. Upon reading the maintenance book, we were clearly not the first to find this out. That said, the cottage was a good size and well equipped. Parking was a challenge so take the owners advice and buy the weekly parking ticket. We did manage to break 2 dinner plates and a bowl when they were shaken off the draining board by the washing machine spin cycle. I did text the agent offering to replace but still have had no reply. Finally, a washing line in the garden would help

“Kiely Cottage is a superb base to explore Shanklin, Ventnor & the rest of the beautiful Isle of Wight.”

It is a very short walk to Shanklin Old Village & 10 mins max down to the beach. The cottage is really well equipped & comfortable enough to enjoy a week away for 3 adults. We stayed in this cottage last September & re-booked as we had such a fab time. We normally go away with our little dog, but this time she wasn't well enough to come with us. Last time, the cottage was in superb condition - spotlessly clean & no issues at all. This time, it wasn't as amazing - there was dog poo in the garden that we had to pick up (though that is the owners responsibility, not the cottage managers). The shower had been noted by previous occupants as spraying water everywhere, we were disappointed it hadn't been fixed (and the water really did go everywhere!). It was obvious that the condition of the (easily replaced) shower head was rubbish & you could see where the water damage was affecting the ceiling..... The parking was a pain - last time, no issues, this time, we couldn't unload on the road in front of the cottage & had to trail all our luggage / food etc from the car park. To be fair, it's not far away, but the hill is steep & the road busy to cross with handfuls of stuff! We noted that the owner advised a parking permit - when we have stayed at other cottages on the IOW, a permit has usually been included in the price. I would be happy to pay £50 a week extra & have a permit provided......especially as when my hubby rang the number to get a permit, they tried to charge him daily not weekly! We eventually gave up & parked at the station for £7.50 a week & a bit of exercise. There is parking on the street, but the neighbours park there & I can imagine they really don't love having holiday guests taking up the very limited spaces. All in all, we had a fantastic time - but i'm not sure we would book again.

Only downside, boiler very noisy and unable to get shower to work more than once in bathroom and hot water in bathroom only luke warm. Did contact and leave message for key holder for some assistance but unfortunately they did not reply.

Bright tasteful decor with some nice mid-century modern pieces - we liked that. Seafront is about ten minutes walk away - walking down through the Chine was a nice way to start the day. Broadband reception was a bit unpredictable but that's not the owner's fault!

“Location of the Kiely cottage helps to get to town or to the beach in no time.”

The cottage itself made us feel like at home. We really enjoyed the time spent in Shanklin, including our dog, which couldn't wait to get to the beach every day and play in the sand although he is not very keen of water at all. Kids loved the place and food in nearby restaurants was very good. We were very pleased with the service and quality of meals in Fisherman's cottage. Very big portions and you can get something for your dog as well. We will defintiely use SYKESCOTTAGES for future holidays and will definitely come back to Isle of Wight.

It's comfortable with a welcoming feel. It is situated in an ideal spot for dog walkers and is about 10 minutes walk to the year round, dog friendly section of Shanklin Beach. We would recommend this property to anyone.

“A lovely cottage in a great location.”

I was with 2 other adults. The house is in a good location, walking distance of the beach and local shops as well as the old village. We hired a car and bought a weekly pass and parked the car in a car park about 5 minute walk away. The house was clean and comfortable and had a lovely homey feel to it. We had a lovely week and would certainly consider booking again.

A real home from home. So much thought and consideration has gone into the furnishing and equipping of this property; which ensured we wanted for nothing during our stay. Small details like providing dog blankets and towels,, as well as guest toiletries made us feel valued as guests during our stay, I wish all places were as thoughtful. Would definitely recommend and would choose to stay in Kiely cottage again in a heartbeat.

The property

This delightful mid-terrace cottage is situated in the traditional seaside resort of Shanklin Old Village on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight.

This superb holiday home is ideal for a family with Shanklin Chine, beach and theatre all within easy walking distance and plenty of places to visit nearby.

Upon entering this lovely cottage you will find that it has been stylishly furnished to a high standard with a mix of modern and retro furniture.

On the ground floor is a cosy sitting room with enough seats for everyone in your party, along with a Smart TV and a feature fireplace with log burner.

Also on the ground floor is a well-equipped and bright kitchen with dining area, as well as a bathroom and a door that leads you out onto a fully enclosed gravelled courtyard.

The first floor comprises three bedrooms, a master king-size double bedroom, a zip/link twin room with a seaside theme and a bunks room; an ideal set up for a variety of party sizes.

The courtyard is the perfect place to relax after a day on the beach, with a gas barbecue, so why not cook a meal on it and dine alfresco in the evening sun?

The town of Shanklin has a safe sandy beach, a pier, shops, pubs, tea rooms, restaurants and a golf course – what more do you need!

There are many other attractions within reach, including a variety of coastal and inland walks, making this an excellent cottage from which to explore all that the island has to offer.

The cottage is also close to Shanklin train station with direct trains from central London (including ferry), so you can easily leave your desk on Friday and be in your cottage by the beach within hours.

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders.
