  • "What a fab cottage more than we expected lovely and clean and cosy and everything you could possibly need we also met the owners who were really friendly and helpful."

not a complaint just an observation the stairs are quite steep but overall i could not fault this property

  • "Beautiful cottage, with space for one car to park off the road."

Very well decorated and so clean. I was not expecting it but enjoyed an extensive welcome pack. Kitchen facilities were above and beyond comfortable so I wanted for nothing. The shower room is on the ground floor. A utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer. A cosy sitting room with a television, books, board games and music. The two bedrooms both had televisions, the single room had a toilet and washbasin. Thought had gone into providing facilities for my dog too, a bed for him and feeding bowls, even a welcome pack! There is a gate from the road into a secure courtyard with a water hose so that sand can be washed off any dog before they enter the cottage. (I had packed so much for my dog, that he didn't need!). I hope to return very soon.

  • "The most well equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in."

I am really particular about where we stay but this exceeded anywhere we have stayed in before. I was a bit hesitant as I think there was only one review due to it being so new but so glad I took a chance. So well equipped and thought out. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a full dinner if you were so inclined. Husband thought he had found something that they had forgotten but there it was in the utility cupboard, a fan. They noticed that the dog beds would be a bit small for our dogs so another one was bought round. Lovely welcome basket, eggs, butter, orange juice, wine, milk, sure there were other things, as well as a doggy welcome bag for both of the dogs. Cannot think of anything negative. Owners live next door and were very friendly and helpful. There is a park a few minutes walk away for the dogs also just a few minutes walk from Main Street. Don't know what else to say except that we would not hesitate to stay at May Cottage again. On another note can completely recommend the Yarbridge for dinner. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "We had a great week's stay at May Cottage!"

Everything was beautifully clean and the cottage was equipped with absolutely everything we could possibly need. Our kind hosts (who live next door to the cottage) had also left some thoughtful extra provisions for when we arrived (juice, croissants, wine and Magnums, as well as the more standard bread and milk) and were very helpful, for example, when we needed to find a local garage. We really enjoyed exploring the local beaches and had fun in Shanklin visiting Jurassic Jim and eating out in various cafes and restaurants (great milkshakes in Cinders, lovely breakfast in the Lime Tree, and a family friendly meal out in Pavarotti's). All in all, it was a wonderful holiday, thanks very much!

About the location

Sandown 2.2 miles; Godshill 4 miles.

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders. At the top of the cliff is the bustling High Street of shops and the grand Victorian theatre, at the bottom there are cafes, shops and amusements along the suntrap esplanade and sandy beach. Shanklin is great starting point for numerous coastal and inland walks (with the option to return using the local bus network). The rest of the island, including Sandown, Godshill, Blackgang Chine and The Needles, is all easily accessible.
