We booked this property as it was the only one available at the time that was large enough for our party of 16. Not being able to check in until 4pm is not very user friendly. The property looks lovely, but I don't know how it got a 5 star rating. All the mattresses are old uncomfortable and need replacing. Some of the sheets are a little shabby and need replacing. The kitchen utensils are not suitable for a property that sleeps 20, as the pots and pans are tiny and barely enough to cook for 6 people and old and worn. only 1 bin liner and 3 dishwasher tablets were left and not suitable equipment to use and clean the barbecue. Only half a toilet roll in each loo. We had to go out and buy loo paper, kitchen paper, cleaning things and bin bags....this is hardly 5 star. It feels like the owner wants to keep the cleaning deposit...which I am still waiting to get back. Please advise when I will get the deposit back.

About the location

Sandown 2.2 miles; Godshill 4 miles.

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders. At the top of the cliff is the bustling High Street of shops and the grand Victorian theatre, at the bottom there are cafes, shops and amusements along the suntrap esplanade and sandy beach. Shanklin is great starting point for numerous coastal and inland walks (with the option to return using the local bus network). The rest of the island, including Sandown, Godshill, Blackgang Chine and The Needles, is all easily accessible.
