  • "A well appointed property, situated close to the town centre and sea front."

Extremely well supplied with all necessary facilities. Outside space looked good, but the weather was against us enjoying it.

Thank you David for your feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed the house. My wife, who is an islander, says it never rains on the Isle of Wight so you must have been unlucky with the weather!! Bob Property Owner

  • "The house was lovely and comfortable."

It wasn’t made clear regarding the property parking, it simply said parking nearby, which didn’t mean a lot when it’s the first visit to the Isle Of Wight, plus no mention of how terribly steep it was when walking out of the gate to the town to collect the car each day as we had to purchase a 7 day tourist permit which cost £67 on the Council Car Park in middle of town. We had our Uncle with us for his 85th Birthday who is registered blind and very unsteady on his leg’s which made it stressful for us due to the steepness. It was a very stressful arrival after a long journey and start to the holiday. If I’d have known I wouldn’t have booked. Apart from that we couldn’t fault the property at all.

Dear Linda, I am sorry that you weren’t aware how steep the roads in Ventnor can be and that this caused you problems with your uncle. I will speak to Sykes Cottages about adding that information to the property description. We do tell guests where the car parks are in the information folder in the property but I appreciate that you might not read it immediately on arrival. However I’m glad that you enjoyed the property and I hope that you managed to have a good holiday. Best wishes, Bob Property Owner

  • "Lovely property, really spacious, bright, clean and comfortable, the afternoon sun on the first floor outdoor space was great for relaxing after days out and about."

Would highly recommend and book again.

Hi Terence. Thank you for your kind review and I’m glad you enjoyed your stay on the island. The terrace from the living room is our favourite place for early evening drinks and watching the world go by! I hope to see you again. Best wishes, Bob Property Owner

  • "Mostly it was good."

It's well equiped in terms of crockery and kitchen utensils. The nespresso machine was a great bonus.the garden space was good for older children/adults. Other small notes- hand towel for the toilets and bathrooms would be a good idea. Now a big negative- something needs to be done about the temperature. It was unbelievably hot and uncomfortable due to the temperature. I had 2 young children who couldn't sleep and were crying and waking up throughout the night. It was disappointing so to see that other guests had written this in the guest book yet the feedback hasn't been taken seriously and nothing has been done. You could easily purchase couple of ac units which can be moved around and the property to keep it cool which cost 3-400 and in the long term is a good investment for comfort of the guests. There is a Dyson air but that isn't good enough as it's not cool the room. Also a note that fridge wasn't closed and it was warm and it took till the next day to reach the correct temp. There were items already in the freezer which we didn't touch because didn't know who they belonged to. The freezer was dripping and defrosting and but of a mess which we had to clean up.

Hi Aakrati, Thank you for your feedback. I am really sorry that you had some problems with the property and which we are not happy about. We rely on our cleaners to ensure that the property is left in a pristine condition for our guests and on this occasion they have clearly failed. Hand towels are provided for all bathrooms and cloakroom and they should have been left for you. I am appalled that items had been left in the fridge. The cleaners are instructed to remove anything left by guests and clearly they haven't done this nor have they ensured that the fridge was actually closed. I will be forwarding your review and my reply to them. With regard to the heat in the property, it is newly built and as such has to comply with modern insulation standards. It is therefore so well insulated that heat accumulating in the property builds up. We do take all feed back seriously and have provided a Dyson fan to help to cool the property if necessary and this generally appears to have been satisfactory. We do suggest, in the information for guest book that is in the property, that the rooflights in the bedroom and bathroom be left open if the weather is fine and that the window in the bedroom and living room be left on tilt. We have found that this through flow of air ensures that the temperature doesn't build up and the property stays reasonably cool. Obviously in inclement weather the rooflights cannot be left open but the problem with heat build up doesn't occur in that situation. I do hope that the issues that you have faced haven't spoiled your holiday and thank you for taking the time to point out the problems to us. With best wishes, Bob Property Owner

  • "Our 2nd time staying in this property, and another amazing stay."

This time we were with friends, there is more than enough room for 2 couples, lots of space so you are not on top of each other. They were equally impressed with our ‘find’ on the Isle of Wight. The location is great, right in the centre of Ventnor and 10 min walk to the beach. Close to amenities - food shops, cafes and restaurants. The house has everything you need as well as a generous welcome hamper. We BBQ’d 2 nights of our stay using the gas BBQ provided, perfect! The only 2 minor issues are; there is no parking so you need to unload on the steep hill and move your car to a public car park; and the upper floor gets very hot when it’s sunny so you do need to open all windows when in the property. However these did not put us off returning for a 2nd time. We will definitely be back again, and perhaps for longer than our 3 night break this time.

Thank you Julie for your feedback and thank you for making a second visit. I'm glad your friends enjoyed their stay as well! We look forward to welcoming you again and hopefully, if you stay for longer, you will have the chance to discover more of the wonderful island! Best wishes, Bob Property Owner

About the location

VENTNOR

Newport 10 miles; Cowes 15 miles.

The quaint Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor is located at the southern end of the island and accessed via an array of steep winding roads set amidst beautiful scenery. Sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming town has a uniquely mild micro climate enabling tropical and exotic plants to grow throughout the area. The gently sloping sandy and fine shingle beaches and coves provide excellent facilities for watersports and offer a range of stunning coastal paths to explore, while the harbour sells a broad range of fresh fish and locally-caught seafood. Ventnor is one of the Isle of Wight’s most prestigious food destinations with a good variety of high-quality restaurants,
Bistros, pubs and shops along the esplanade and close to the town centre. The Botanical Gardens are within easy reach and well worth a visit, whilst around the island there are great walking and cycling opportunities, medieval castles, historic houses and a variety of gardens and waterfalls, as well as the unspoilt fishing bay. This great holiday destination has plenty to offer all year-round, and it's easy to see why it's known as the prettiest place on the Isle of Wight!
