  • "Very classy flat which is a step up from usual self catering accommodation."

Very well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and sofa/chair. Was a bit breezy during our stay so didn’t get as much use of the balcony as we hoped. Great views down to Ventnor beach. Great location with lots of good places to eat close by (especially recommend Rex’s) and co-op and boots 5 min walk away. Owners very helpful

Apartment was well equipped, clean, had everything you could possibly need. Very helpful hosts, always at the end of the phone if you needed them. Parking was a plus parking is very limited in Ventnor. Thank you for a great stay.

The location in Ventnor is perfect, with sunset views and an easy walk to nearby restaurants, pubs and shops. A private parking space is an added bonus at any time of year, as Ventnor is understandably popular and it was helpful to park nearby. Highly recommended.

The view from the bedroom window is stunning! It is very clean, very comfortable, well equipped and very quiet. It is also very well placed for restaurants, pubs and shops in Ventnor. We had a wonderful time and hope to return sometime. Thank you for refunding the housekeeping bond so quickly.

very comfortable. spacious and exceptionally clean. thank you for your kindness and for being great hosts. Easy access to to the shops, bars and restaurants in the town centre, whilst still offering good views of the sea, beach and coastline. Great to have adjacent parking provided, although the surface needs a bit of attention. overall, we had a wonderful holiday. we loved the botanical gardens in Ventnor. the local Co-op which was 2 minute walk was wonderfully stocked, making it easy to eat in the property without actually cooking! my kind of holiday!

  • "Beautiful stylish apartment in a great location however, this was greatly let down by the attention to detail."

The apartment was the least clean that we have ever stayed in with Sykes. There was lots of dust on higher surfaces and around the bath taps and sinks were filthy. The grouting in both bathrooms was black in places (some of the mould could easily be removed with little effort). Very disappointing cleanliness in site of the recent pandemic. The toilet seat in the main bathroom was loose and the tap In the ensuite dripped constantly and wasnt fixed to the sink at all. We were unable to clean as not even one cleaning cloth was left for us to use (most unusual for a Sykes property) and only one teatowel which was stained and old for 4 people to use in a week. Other reviews commented on welcome provisions/essentials and other than salt and pepper and a few teabags and a couple of teaspoons of coffee there was nothing. Some of the soft furnishings are tired and need replacing. Such a shame in what could easily be an outstanding property.

Thank you for this feedback Leisa - it is incredibly important to us and will always be taken very seriously. We are absolutely gutted that Distant Shores did not meet your expectations in the critical areas you detail; and are extremely saddened at a number of those areas being ‘firsts’ for us for in terms of customer feedback. We take cleanliness extremely seriously and have worked closely with our team to understand why your stay didn’t meet our usually high standards; and, how we ensure this does not happen ever again. Importantly also ensuring that, you as guests, are enabled to maintain that cleanliness during your stay. On-going, we review furnishing standards and make any necessary investments to ensure we maintain a quality experience for our guests. Whilst we can be restricted in what we can do during high season e.g. carpets were replaced in March this year / off season due to practicalities - we will ensure we are super scrupulous in our next review, including review of the supplementary and complimentary items we provide to guests, to ensure an optimally comfortable stay. Once again, our sincerest apologies. When we heard from you early into your holiday, we were so pleased you were settling in and set for a great week; so are again, properly gutted that wasn’t the case. If you can afford us the opportunity to welcome you back as returning guests, like many we have welcomed this season – we’d love the opportunity to ensure you have a stay that exceeds your expectations. We really enjoyed using the place as our home from home, particularly being able to sit on the balcony. I missed having coffee making facilities but that didn't detract from the place. The owners were very helpful too.

Thank you for the lovely feedback Rianne and so glad we could be of assistance during your stay. Gutted you missed your coffee! Can't believe it! We love ours and have specifically put both a percolator and a cafetiere in Distant Shores. We couldn't live without it! So sorry you missed them! Property Owner

The bed and furniture were comfortable but if there were 4 people staying there I think it needs another chair. Thank you to sykes for sorting us out when we lost the property keys, and thank you to the cleaner for coming so quickly to let us in. The price for next year has gone up considerbly so it has outpriced itself if there are only 2 of you, ok if there were 4 people.

The en-suite was part of the twin bedroom which was a bit unusual. Lovely sea view from the double bedroom. Balcony is a nice feature and has sea view, Ventnor is very hilly with steep inclines from the beach/esplanade to the flat and the town. The parking bay for the flat is a great asset, but do heed the warning about the tightness of the angle of the entrance to the car park. We had a lovely relaxing holiday

Central location but in quiet road. Very well appointed accommodation with attention to detail for the holidaymaker - everything to hand, very comfortable and in excellent condition. Owners provided lots of information which was very helpful. Bus service amazing to get around the Island and bus stop within minutes of property. Weather was mixed, not surprising for October, but content to relax and look out to sea when raining. Great walks on the downs and cliff tops straight from the property. Would highly recommend and hope to return.

You have everything you need with in a 2-minutes walk. The town with all the shops, restaurants, take-aways etc, the beach and seafront with it's café and bars, again 2-minutes away and the view from the first floor apartment is just gorgeous, you can sit on the balcony and drink in the sea views as well as sip on your G&T. • "Really great holiday, very nice apartment with lovely views from the balcony over the sea."

Everything was decorated to a high standard. The only downside is that the arrival instructions could have been clearer - the "Distant Shores" plaque that we were looking for was inside the building, upstairs! Don't let this put you off from making a booking, but look for "MIRAMARE COURT", not "Distant Shores" when you arrive! Parking is provided opposite (the car park entrance is a bit tight, but we got our big car in with no problems - it is easier to reverse in with a large car!) Location is perfect, just above the seafront and 2 minutes walk to the town. The Chinese restaurant just around the corner is lovely and the "Two Cooks" cafe (just past "Tintos" on the road with the Co-op) is a nice friendly place for a coffee or breakfast. Buses are regular from outside Boots, but if you arrived by car then it is probably cheaper to drive.....

  • "The Distant Shores apartment met the description given and had a few extra welcome touches."

We found your communications via email through each stage of the booking efficient and reassuring. We appreciate that the vast majority of people will travel by their own means of transport, but there are a few of us out here who do not own cars - or even don't drive, so did a lot of research on the possibilities of where we could conveniently stay on the Isle of Wight. Therefore information on frequency of train or bus services would be very useful in connection with the properties you advertise. A map location of the property would also have been helpful as we trundled our luggage along the route given for car access, whereas the was a much shorter route from the bus stop to the property on foot. This is a suggestion, not a criticism, given because the needs of non-car travelers are often overlooked! (We successfully traveled from Lancashire to Ventnor without any problems!)

Mrs Mitchell, we're really pleased Distant Shores met your expectations. Thank you for your feedback on your logistics of travel, feedback like this is crucial to us. In response we've asked that prior to travel guests should be advised we should be contacted to assist with any travel or holiday questions. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon. About the location

VENTNOR

Newport 10 miles; Cowes 15 miles.

The quaint Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor is located at the southern end of the island and accessed via an array of steep winding roads set amidst beautiful scenery. Sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming town has a uniquely mild micro climate enabling tropical and exotic plants to grow throughout the area. The gently sloping sandy and fine shingle beaches and coves provide excellent facilities for watersports and offer a range of stunning coastal paths to explore, while the harbour sells a broad range of fresh fish and locally-caught seafood. Ventnor is one of the Isle of Wight’s most prestigious food destinations with a good variety of high-quality restaurants,
Bistros, pubs and shops along the esplanade and close to the town centre. The Botanical Gardens are within easy reach and well worth a visit, whilst around the island there are great walking and cycling opportunities, medieval castles, historic houses and a variety of gardens and waterfalls, as well as the unspoilt fishing bay. This great holiday destination has plenty to offer all year-round, and it's easy to see why it's known as the prettiest place on the Isle of Wight!
