  • "The cottage is a little gem, charmingly furnished and decorated and in an attractive location."

For us, though, the greatest pleasure was the gorgeous view. Being able to sit in the conservatory or, weather permitting, on the terrace and soak up that peaceful vibe was a highlight. Not so great was the parking, or lack of it. This is covered in the cottage description so we knew it would be an issue but hadn't anticipated how much of a nuisance it turned out to be. We never saw a parking space in the whole week so had to use the public parking (moderately) nearby, which made unloading/loading luggage and shopping a challenge when there are only double yellow lines next to the cottage. There was a problem with the shower that we encountered on the first day where it was stuck on a very high temperature and you couldn't turn it down, making the shower unusable. We reported it and the initial response was good but then we heard nothing further and the problem wasn't resolved. Fortunately, we found how to work around it so managed for the week but hopefully this gets fixed very soon. Despite the parking, we will consider returning to Ivy Cottage because of its charm and the view, though people with mobility issues may find the enforced hilly walks navigating between cottage and car parks off-putting.

  • "We would have loved to give Ivy cottage 5 stars."

The place was lovely. We were very comfortable and the view of the sea was perfect. Unfortunately there was a couple of maintenance issues. The top patio needed weeding and the lower decking furniture needs replacing. Do this , and would have been a definite 5 star. If we get the opportunity, we would definitely return to ivy cottage.

It was comfortable and had everything we needed. The only slight issue was parking but we always found a space, eventually even if it was on neighboring roads.

  • "We were disappointed by this property."

Whilst a few rooms (conservatory and bathroom) were decent, and the view was lovely, the house as a whole felt dirty and grotty, in need of a good deep clean, and decorated to a really poor standard. We lived, for example, out of our suitcases, because the drawers were all dirty and the wardrobes falling apart. And the saucepan lids were mouldy. It also lacked some things which we’d consider fairly basic things to provide - for example, whilst there was a washing line, there were no pegs, and there was no airer to dry things indoors if (and in our case when) it’s wet outside. It was ok - it served a purpose between being out and about - and there’s plenty to do on the island, with everything being a max 40 mins or so away - but it was disappointing that this didn’t live up to our expectations.

  • "The only problem was the taps on the shower are very difficult to turn on and off."

Also just another suggestion is that perhaps you could contact the owners of the block of flats next door to see if you could rent a parking space of them as there was many spaces free every day and then maybe offer this to your clients as an optional extra at a cost to them as the parking is very difficult after 1630hrs . Otherwise an absolutely fabulous cottage and location , thank you for a lovely stay

Thank you for your feedback, we will have the shower looked at and resolved so thanks for making us aware, we have looked at the option and been in contact many times over the years with the flat owners, however unfortunately just not an option. it does get very busy parking wise, however there are a number of car parks a short walk away if off street is unavailable. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Ivy cottage Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, well equipped kitchen and great dinning area."

Snug sofas for evening chilling and fabulous sea views from the conservatory with yet another comfy sofa ! Great location in Ventnor and only a few mins walk to the takeaways, pubs and bus stops for seeing the island. We did leave a map for future guests with dogs on how to find the nearest dog walk to grass for a wee. Loved the decking area with outdoor sofas and watching the boats go by. However needed a black-out blind in the rear bedroom as it was light at 4.30am : ) Many thanks Peter & Karen

Thank you for your lovely feedback and its great you enjoyed your stay at Ivy cottage. we will look at the option of black out blinds, thanks again. Property Owner

Location excellent and the property is amazing and we would stay again and also recommend to others There are some things that could be better though The patio and decking area are overgrown and full of weeds There were no notes as to how anything worked, cooker etc There was no instruction on where to put the rubbish and when bin collection days were This would have been helpful Property is set in a quiet courtyard with excellent views

Thank you for your feedback and kind words in regards Ivy cottage, we will look at the decking issues, missing instructions. Property Owner

Looks can certainly be deceiving from the street view. The sea view out the back takes your breath away. Well appointed throughout- - a few issue’s getting the door to lock but a small gripe.

  • "We had a beautiful holiday at this lovely cottage."

Just a couple of points let it down on first arrival. The carpets were really dirty. Spills on them that looked like they had not been cleaned at all and muddy door mat etc. The children’s bedroom was also a little damp and mouldy which might explain the need for the excessive air freshener. I think it would just take a little more tlc with the cleaning to make this lovely cottage into an excellent cottage. Parking can be difficult at the weekend, but this is noted in the listing. We always managed to get in somewhere maybe not directly outside the cottage, but not far down the road. That said the rest of the cottage was lovely and we have had a great stay. The owners left a welcome package which is much appreciated and provided cleaning products also. Beautiful views from the patio and lower deck and it is walking distance to the beach and town. We were very comfortable in the cottage once settled in and had an excellent weeks holiday. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Clean and stocked with everything that you need for a home away from home We loved sitting out on the terrace ( or in the sun room if cold) looking at the view . Very dog friendly too. A little gem

  • "This cottage was very clean and had a nice holiday feel as with the other reviews parking is not great street was very busy and it is out of season."

It would help to have instructions about recycling and appliances etc. The lower terrace was good but if you have dogs beware they thought the hedge was part of the garden and tried to walk on it and it was a very steep drop maybe a little trellis would be good. The bunk is classed as an adult bunk but it is very small and quite claustrophobic as the top bunk is very low. Our friends had to use the sofa bed in the conservatory. This cottage is really not ideal for people who have limited mobility as the walk to the beach is down a lot of very steep steps and it is very hilly. There is no where close by to exercise dogs unless you go down to the beach or drive up to the downs. The views are spectacular and the little courtyard is cute but the neighbours are not very friendly and they do smoke a lot in the courtyard area. Ventnor is a very friendly place and some lovely pubs and restaurants.

  • "Ivy cottage was a real home from home, cosy and comfortable."

We stayed on a really wet and windy week so was good to get in and snuggle up. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was good too. I was a little disappointed that there was no guest book, information about anything in the cottage or any contact at all from the owners. This seemed unusual, we got by and this didn’t affect our holiday. There was a lovely welcome pack of bread butter milk etc , much appreciated. Ventnor is lovely, as are the locals, going off season it was quite too. Parking was not a problem for us but again it was November. If you have a dog there’s some good walking down a lot of steps found between 24/26 south street, I would emphasise that this isn’t ideal if you struggle with mobility. The views from the cottage are amazing and exactly like the photos. I would recommend Ivy cottage and would definitely stay again.

The conservatory and terrace have super sea views. Ventnor town centre is a short walk, and access to the sea below the property is via some steps. Happy to recommend a stay here.

  • "The Cottage was very comfortable and well presented with a seaside theme running throughout."

Good quality fixtures and fittings. We enjoyed the view overlooking the sea. Beds and shower room good. Pleasant conservatory overlooking sea. Our visit would have been better if instructions were available for heating and appliances. Also useful to have information about bins as they were full when we arrived. As it was low season,on street parking wasn’t too difficult however we had to park a way down the street. The cottage is tucked away in a courtyard behind the houses that face onto the street which we weren’t expecting. Difficult to find as a result. Small wooden gate and passage at side of White House leads around the back to the cottage. Small fridge with tiny freezer compartment. Not much space to put away your own food so take this into consideration if you have shopping delivered - especially frozen food.

The lower terrace was not mentioned in the listing but provided a very comfortable area which had the sun all day. We had a couple of chilly evenings so it was a shame that there were no logs for the wood burner.

  • "Great location."

Beautiful cottage with spectacular views. Instructions for heating, oven etc would be useful. We were unable to get the bathroom radiator to work - not sure if this runs separately from the heating as did not come on with the heating. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment - although couldn’t find a grater. Found that there was limited cupboard space for groceries - may be worth removing some of the equipment to make cupboard space for food. Freezer space also limited to freezer compartment in fridge. Although there is no allocated parking we didn’t have a problem parking on nearby roads. Only major downside of the cottage was the poor WiFi connection - would recommend if possible this is upgraded. Overall we had a lovely stay at Ivy Cottage.

  • "We have returned from a fantastic time at Ivy Cottage."

It was clean and comfortable with everything you could want. The view of the ocean was amazing and my children enjoyed the bunk beds. The little things that the host put in place were very welcome. We had milk in the fridge and bread and teabags/coffee/sugar. There were bags for the bin and washing up liquid and washing tablets and softener. Ventnor is a great base to get to many things on the island and we all slept well every night. I would only say to be clear that it is onstreet parking. Sometimes you will not be able to park as near to the property as you may like but it was a small thing and didn't put us off enjoying the cottage and the Island. The cottage itself is set back behind the main houses in a lovely courtyard, very quiet and peaceful. Would recommend it.

  • "The accuracy of the listing is misleading, to say the least."

There is no off road parking as stated in the listing. There are no instructions for using any of the appliances. There are no oven gloves or colander. No information re rubbish and recycling collection. We had no sun parasol for the first 3 days of our holiday which made being outside impossible! This property is not suited to people with mobility problems due to steep hills everywhere. Wifi is unreliable.
