  • "Too many failings to list for property that has been for sale for a long time."

  • "Manor cottage should not have been offered as a holiday cottage, the cottage right next door had scaffolding as building work was going on !"

the scaffolding made it extremely difficult to park there were 3 builders present apart from Sunday with some noise, this meant that they overlooked the courtyard making it impossible to use! it is also was for sale so the public can to look in & took pictures! We came home early & it is now subject to a complaint Sykes is dealing with this. i would not recommend any body considering this property .

  • "The cottage itself is very well placed to stay in Ventnor, with a useful parking space right outside."

There was building work going on right next door which did really put the outside garden out of use in the short term ( dust / noise ). There is plenty of equipment in the kitchen, and the lounge area is comfortable. TV is decent with netflix etc and wi fi was good. Heating and hot water easy to use if it was needed and we found the shower was easy to get to a comfortable temperature ( even if the " right " setting seemed to differ on a daily basis). We would echo other comments that the bed is just too big for the room, leaving almost no space on the left hand side and bottom of the bed to get out and also not enough room for storage as a result. The built in lights to light up the floor are also too sensitive and come on too easily at night even if no one leaves the bed, so we unplugged them. The bathroom could also benefit from a shelf near the sink as there is no storage at all save the sink itself and the cistern. Nice place, comfy but needs a few finishing touches to make it great.

  • "We had a problem with this cottage in that we had no hot water, I phoned the owner who was actually in the lake district, I was aware the lack of hot water was due to low pressure in the boiler, the owner tried to talk me through the procedure to rectify the problem but I could not move some of the valves under the boiler and had no tools to help me, the phone then cut off, fortunately about half an hour later I was called by Carla, the cleaner for the property, who lived about five miles away, she arrived about half an hour later with a pair of pliers and managed to resolve the problem."

The other criticism I would make is that when I was concerned for a few minutes when my call to the owner was cut off is that I checked the paperwork from Sykes Cottages there was no contact telephone number for you, as I don't have a smart phone I had no way of contacting you, so for a few minutes I was concerned .

  • "The property is on the market for sale and it looks as though the owner has lost interest in it."

The garden area was untidy, the property was not particularly clean, the shower had a mind of its own. The property is conveniently located albeit directly opposite a pay and display car park. The owners do apologise for the immediately adjacent unsightly building plot which seems to have been like it for some time.

  • "Manor Cottage is a nice cottage in a good location as a base to see the island, There is a problem with the collection of the house hold waste, as the council has stopped collecting and the owner has not got a private firm to collect,it has built up from mid August."

The patio doors only lock and unlock from the inside, which is inconvenient,

  • "Accommodation was nicely situated for exploring The Isle of White."

Everywhere was clean and kitchen very well equipped. Bed was extremely comfortable. The shower was poor, impossible to control the temp and the volume was poor. Big disappointment was - no welcome pack. Having traveled a long distance to get there would have been very nice to be able to make a cup of tea on arrival.

  • "Well equipped cottage, could have done with some cleaning up outside."

The only thing missing was an iron so we couldn’t make use of the washing machine. Very little room around the bottom of the bed so you have to be quite slim to squeeze by. Good location near the shops.

  • "We really enjoyed our week’s stay in this property which is located close to the centre and seafront of Ventnor and is an ideal base for exploring the island."

We found the property clean, well maintained and comfortable. The premises are very well equipped with a wet room/bathroom, superb kitchen/diner/lounge and very comfortable bed. The welcome pack includes clear details about the property and instructions for all appliances. Off road parking is available adjacent to the premises together with a patio which we used to relax on during warm, sunny days. Would we return to this property again – yes. Would we recommend this property – yes.

  • "Initial impression cottage was on a building site."

On checking the dishwasher it had a very bad smell. May not have been cleaned properly/recently. The bed was very comfortable but too big for the room. With less than 12 inches of space at the bottom of the bed it was necessary to do a sideways shuffle to get around the bed. I stubbed my toes more than once. Fortunately we had brought our own linen as the two bath towels and one hand towel provided were just not sufficient for two adults for a weeks stay. The garden furniture consisted of a table and four wooden upright chairs. Hardly suitable for comfortably relaxing in the "sun trap ?" and viewing the wooded hillside described as St Boniface Down. Our last afternoon at the property was disturbed by the arrival of an Estate Agent who informed us they had permission to view the cottage. We had not been made aware of this arrangement. My main concern was that they probably had a key and could have entered the cottage at any time while we were out enjoying the Isle.
