  • "Property needs a very deep clean, the windows especially leaving aside the ones that are blown are filthy."

Generally grubby on most things that were touched. It was advertised as two showers only one in use,the shower head hanging down with no bracket to accommodate it,ok to shower down a dog.So four of us with one shower. The garden is on a different level,it looks like a hurricane has hit it and that's no exaggeration.Piles of detritus everywhere, totally unsafe for little ones. The photos for this place were taken a very long time ago.I have taken multiple photos myself if you are interested to see what you are promoting, all very dissapointed and we would have walked away but our grandchildren were upset at the thought. Please look into this,we thought Sykes were better than this.

  • "'s a mixed review."

The house is an ideal base for a car-free holiday. It is well situated a few minutes' walk from the centre of Yarmouth in a cul de sac. So there is little passing traffic. The house is immediately adjacent to the lovely Yar estuary and the rural view from the main bedroom window is delightful. However despite arriving hours late because of train cancellations (about which we kept the owner fully informed) the house was surprisingly still not quite ready for occupation when we arrived with floor mopping still taking place. (We had to put the abandoned mop away ourselves.) The house and garden were poorly maintained. One of the kitchen lights under the wall cupboards was hanging loose with one end resting on the worktop in front of the toaster. Despite being equipped with two showers the owner informed us that only one could be used at a time because the boiler could not cope with both. (We didn't put this to the test and showered one after the other.) We were blessed with fine sunny weather but were frustrated to find that none of the windows in the conservatory would open, making it boiling hot unless we left the door open. I love wild gardens but the neglect of the large garden was depressing, with very long grass clippings strewn over the lawn and a fence collapsing. The garden furniture had seen better days and was rusty. The hob ignition stopped working during our stay. The wheelie bins were full of rubbish (contaminated recycling) when we arrived. We were given no information about what to do with our rubbish or the house keys on our departure. Visitors should be aware that two of the three single beds are narrower (at 2'6") than a standard single (3'), which is a squeeze for an adult. None of the beds was comfortable for this petite visitor. Although initially very accommodating and helpful, the owner was slow to respond to concerns that we raised during our stay and several remained unresolved.

  • "Our second stay at Tim's house which did not disappoint."

This is a welcoming, comfortable, well equipped and spacious family home in a quiet location with easy parking on the large driveway. Within 5 minutes' walk are Yarmouth harbour, essential shops and regular bus services. We would happily return again as Tim is an amiable and helpful host.

  • "I received a helpful phone call from the host prior to arrival and a warm welcome, in person, on arrival."

Fresh milk and cakes in the fridge were a nice surprise - thank you, Tim! Proximity to ferry terminal and frequently served #7 bus route (plus seasonal services) meant no car was needed. The house is located in a road with barely any passing traffic and therefore is very quiet. It is ideally situated for walkers with a good choice of footpaths from the front door. Staying in this comfortable and well equipped family home, with its sunny conservatory, good quality bed linen and towels, plentiful hot water and powerful showers contributed to a relaxing holiday. I would book this property again.

About the location

YARMOUTH

Newport 12 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path. Why not take an energetic stroll at the nearby Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, with Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and amenities for the family 7 minutes away by car. Yarmouth's pier and sailing club jetty is another good spot for crabbing. Four miles away is Compton Bay, famous for dinosaur remains; head there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet. West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yarmouth is an ideal base from which to explore this wonderful island.
