  • "Lovely house."

Plenty of room for 9 of us and in a great position - excellent views and near shops and pubs and places to swim. Spent a lot of family time around the table and in the sunny conservatory.

  • "Odd smell in the downstairs sitting room."

Armchairs and settees not the most comfortable. Otherwise excellent and we would stay again.

  • "Beautiful home with a lovely family feel."

We all had a wonderful time and would definitely go back. The only problem we had was worrying about the stairs with two toddlers, apart from that it was a lovely place to use as a base for days out and then chill out in the evening.

  • "Fabulous location and views with a very short walk into town; lots of space for eating, relaxing or just looking over the Solent."

Clean with great facilities. Would definitely book again.

  • "We thought the the house was amazing."

But it would definitely benefit from a deep clean. We didn’t feel the cleaning had been done and it wasn’t acceptable when you consider how much we paid to stay there. We contacted the owner, she acted promptly and the management company contacted me by phone but he didn’t appear to believe what I was saying. The kitchen was greasy and dirty, bathrooms and toilets needed cleaning, behind doors and under beds had never been cleaned ever! We found rubbish from previous holidaymakers when my daughter’s earring rolled under the bed!!!! And dust webs everywhere. Even had to clean drawers and wardrobes to be able to unpack. We have left the house in a much cleaner condition than we found it. We have photographic evidence of before and after if you require it. We have holidayed with Sykes for quite a few years now but r now looking at alternative companies for our September holiday. So sad it’s come to this.

  • "Five girlfriends on our annual (eighth) walking long weekend."

We loved the house and the location - so convenient to walk in to Yarmouth. A 'welcome pack' of tea, coffee, milk and perhaps biscuits would have been the icing on the cake. So too some washing up liquid and a few dishwasher tablets. Not essential, but would have made us feel, on arrival, that this was everything we could have wanted. The rooms were light and airy and we loved the upstairs lounge with its fabulous view over the water. Another couple of comfy chairs or an additional sofa woud have made it perfect for all the guests to congregate there instead of some sitting on hard chairs - something reasonably priced from Ikea or a charity shop would have sufficed. Bedroom five (a single) sadly had no 'wow' factor and it would not have taken much to make it so, with perhaps a small dressing table and some bright and modern accessories so the fifth occupant didn't feel like 'Cinderella'! That said, the house had so much to offer and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider a return visit.

  • "This is an exceptional property that all the family loved and that we do intend to revisit."

It is wonderfully light and spacious. Fabulous view from upstairs. And has a great feel. Perfectly placed for walking in and out of Yarmouth centre. The only thing that would make anyone's stay perfect would be more comfortable seating in the downstairs sitting room (our 4 men were not to happy about sitting on the floor at the end of our day as we all chatted the night away! )

About the location

YARMOUTH

Newport 12 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path. Why not take an energetic stroll at the nearby Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, with Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and amenities for the family 7 minutes away by car. Yarmouth's pier and sailing club jetty is another good spot for crabbing. Four miles away is Compton Bay, famous for dinosaur remains; head there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet. West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yarmouth is an ideal base from which to explore this wonderful island.
