  • "The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the welcome hamper was amazing, especially the bread from the local bakery."

I think it is probably one of the best equipt cottages we have stayed in. Anything that you needed kitchen wise was provided. A beautiful cottage full of character with all the home comforts you could want.

  • "Lovely holiday in a fascinating cottage - tastefully decorated with many original features."

Well equipped kitchen and plenty of space for a large family. The owners were very helpful and the welcome pack was lovely!

  • "We had a lovely weeks stay in Bayeux cottage."

Please be careful if you are on the tall side as my son in law caught his head on the low beams. The matress in the top room is a little on the hard side. We were left a basket full of beautiful goodies they owners went above and beyond and when we were struggling with the hot water the owner came by very quickly to help. The facilities were of high speck and very clean, there is everything you would need. Its in a great location near some great restaurents and shops.

  • "We enjoyed a week in this lovely, characterful and quirky house in July 2021when the family gathered for one son's wedding."

Everything was prepared meticulously for our arrival, including some very thoughtful supplies in the kitchen. The bedrooms and beds are so comfortable and luxurious, and the area very quiet, so we all slept like very happy logs. There is plenty of space for a big family group in the kitchen, dining room and living room as well as the garden, but the spaces feel quite intimate too. We loved the roof beams in the top floor bedrooms and even though my three sons are all well over 6ft they managed without bumping their heads. The house looks very newly renovated so everything is fresh and there are all the modern requirements even though the building is pleasingly ancient. The owners have literally thought of everything, and were also on hand when we couldn't work out how to use the induction hob. The free car park just opposite is a real bonus as there's no parking on the street. Battle is a jewel of a town and this house is a great place to stay for exploring Battle and the wider area.

  • "Excellent property."

Overall experience locally was great with a poor experience with Sykes at the start (advertising the property at a price £225 under the genuine price) . But the property was in a nice location, cosy and well stocked kitchen. Generous welcome pack from the owners who were on hand to fix the boiler within minutes of our notifying them we had no hot water. Location for village is excellent, on the road but not too busy. Great bars and restaurants in the area, comfortable beds, tidy and clean and certainly would recommend for a family. Snug bed room ok for an occasional night but wasn’t really ok to use as a full week bed for a teenager. Modern interior in a traditional village home- worth a visit

  • "We stayed at Bayeux Cottage for 2 weeks in December and it was a wonderful break."

The house is absolutely beautiful, with all the character and quirks you would expect from such an old building, but also with fantastic kitchen and bathrooms which have been fantastically updated and kitted out. The kitchen in particular is a dream, everything has been thought of and the appliances are really great. All the bedrooms are great and comfortable and the little sitting room at the top / sofa bed room was also a lovely bolthole to escape the rest of the family. We would absolutely recommend and hope to stay there again. Thank you to Michael and Camilla for making our stay so comfortable and for the very thoughtful welcome basked which was much appreciated.

About the location

Hastings 6 miles; Bexhill-on-Sea 7.5 miles; Eastbourne 15 miles.

Battle is a quaint town in East Sussex situated inland and about 6 miles from the more vibrant sister, seaside town of Hastings. Both are famous for their involvement with the battle between William the Conqueror and King Harold in 1066 which changed the course of English history forever. With its narrow alleys, Battle prides itself on remaining a historic landmark, although it is now a bustling and busy place that welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. Visitors come to indulge in the delights that tea rooms such as Mrs Burton's can offer with high tea being served on tall cake stands in a quintessential English parlour dating back to the 16th century. They can browse around charming shops selling local produce and hand-made goods, local butchers and organic vegetable stores where cheeses and wines made only a few miles away are on sale. But, standing proud over this lovely town so full of history, is Battle Abbey. Majestic in its appearance and, although with part of it's buildings now laying in ruins, it still attracts visitors who explore its battlegrounds and Abbey ruins. On the green, events and exhibitions take place throughout the year from costumed marble matches to medieval fayres and scarecrow competitions. Only a short drive away Hastings offers visitors the chance to enjoy a day by the sea, swimming or sailing, fishing or wind-surfing. Or why not dine alfresco at one of the numerous restaurants in the old town with its view over Hastings Castle on the hill, before taking in a show or a play at one of the theatres close by? Separated by only a few miles, but joined by history, Hastings and Battle are towns that offer excitement and enjoyment at any time of year.
