  • "Lovely house, very well equipped."

Parking was sometimes a bit of a problem. Not sure whether it would be possible to provide a residents permit or not?

  • "Great place to stay, good facilities, very clean and nicely decorated."

The owners left us a large gift basket on our stay, including crisps and beer which was greatly appreciated. :) Deal is a lovely place with nice shops and cafe's, the castle is worth a visit especially as it is so close the house! It is also close to good public transport to Dover and Canterbury if you like to explore. It's important to be aware that there is no parking outside the house and that it can be tight on the free parking streets. Overall would definitely recommend as a place to stay we loved our week.

  • "Great location for exploring the area."

Deal has a lot of independent shops to look around and a good selection of bars & restaurants. Castle Reach was very comfortable place to stay, a home from home, can't say more than that!

  • "The property was lovely and clean and had everything you could expect of your own home (no airer inside that I could find though!"

). We were really grateful for the all the thoughtful goodies left for us. The outside area was lovely too. The property sits just behind Deal Castle which is wonderful to visit and a few minutes walk into town. We used a big Sainsbury's and Aldi for food shopping, which can be walked to too. Lots of places to eat even though they seem to close early!! Seemed weird to us being townies.

  • "Exceptional holiday home, roomy, very well equipped."

All within easy reach of seafront, shops, station, pubs, restaurants. Parking was acknowledged to be a bit of a problem, but it was only a stroll to parking on the seafront by Deal Castle. We experienced Storm Dennis at the start of the stay, but we were very cosy in our holiday home!

  • "Castle Reach is a lovely home-from-home with touches that we’ve never come across in holiday homes before."

We loved the organic and environmental approach to toiletries and household products. Bed linen was excellent quality and the whole property very well equipped. The guest Welcome Pack was lovely quality too and reflected the area. Deal is a lovely dog friendly town with welcoming locals and great places to eat. We’d definitely consider returning. Icing on the cake for us would be to be the option of being able to buy a parking permit for the road the house is in.

  • "We were a family consisting 5 adults, 1 baby (8months) and a dog."

We found the facilities, including the "welcome pack" of staple foodstuffs--a pleasant surprise-- to be very acceptable. Our visit was part of a programme to celebrate my wife's birthday. She had previously visited Deal but the rest of us had not. Despite the weather (it rained more or less the whole weekend) we enjoyed the experience very much and will most probably visit again.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday, the house is very well equipped, clean and we loved the decor!"

Great seating in the garden for eating outdoors, very close to the beach and centre of Deal and near the supermarket. We didn’t find the parking a particular problem except when there was a maritime festival in Deal and the roads were very busy. We very much appreciated the welcome basket too. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Everything on your doorstep. The owner had left a great welcome pack along with treats for our dog. Fortunately the sun shone the whole week....brilliant. The rear garden is small but perfectly formed with seating etc. A very well appointed cottage with all needs catered for. Would recommend this cottage.

  • "This was such a comfortable house."

The owners provided everything we might have needed, and more. There was a lovely Christmas tree, tasteful decorations, a nice big tv and plenty of games. There were even environmentally friendly shower products. The welcome box was very generous and included snacks for the dogs and lovely treats for us. Fabulous! We were close to the dog friendly part of the beach, and 5 minutes walk from the shops. Our only issue was parking and traffic. Gilford Road is a busy road, so the front bedroom wasn’t as peaceful as we’d have liked, but we survived!! We’d have happily paid extra for visitors parking permits as the parking (limited to 2 hours) near or outside the house was full most of the time. We had my elderly mother with us so walking a great distance wasn’t an option. Apart from that we had a wonderful Christmas break, and the weather was bright and lovely. We’d definitely go again!

We really enjoyed our week in Deal and took advantage of English Heritage membership visiting three castles - all just a short walk or drive away! The house was gorgeous and we can’t fault the facilities. A second floor lamp in the lounge would be great but that’s us being picky. The welcome pack was so lovely and very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • "An exceptional holiday cottage."

The owners have thought of everything one would need on a holiday. The welcome bag was a lovely gesture, filled with so many lovely goodies and even things for our dog. The kitchen is fitted with everything and more. The bathroom is lovely, only niggle was low water pressure to the shower so water only trickled out of the showerhead. The bedrooms are lovely and the beds very comfy and bedlinen also of a high quality. The lounge furniture is very comfy and plenty of books on shelves to read if tv is not your thing. Lovely dinners were had around the dining room table and many a board game and cards were played. The outside courtyard was beautiful with lovely wooden table and chairs and a BBQ. We had a wonderful week of rest and relaxation and will definitely tell our friends about this little gem in Deal.

About the location

Dover 8.5 miles; Canterbury 24 miles.

Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses within a 30 minute journey, but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number 1 coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
