  • "This is a perfect location for a relaxing break, a lake just outside your door."

Cozy fire inside and out, I didn't use the hot tub as was a bit too cold outside. Bed is so cozy with a great view to wake up to, also very nice supplies left by the owner for our stay. You must also check out the brewery not far from the site with a taproom attached, is very welcoming and also has a farm shop on site. Next time I return I will do it when I can do some fishing, this place is perfect for this. Remember to bring your license if you plan to do this, as you will need it. Great and cozy stay!!!

  • "On arrival we were given the wrong gate code number."

We then had extreme dificulty finding the lodge, with poor instructions and signage all over. When we finally found the lodges ours was not on the map and somehow we were supposed to know it is the first one you come to. We then only booked this lodge for the hot tub, we were given 1 bag of wood and no way of getting any more and the instructions to get the hot tub going were very limited, a 45 second video. We were also not told how long it might take. we never managed to get the hot tub going and there was little insturction. then a woman showed up on the morning of us leaving and told me i should of rang her and she would of done it. thats ncie to know as you are leaving.

  • "We had an amazing stay and Amanda and husband were amazing!"

1 thing I would change is the fact that spiders and cobwebs were in every corner & we actually left a night early because we just didn’t feel comfortable, I know we are out in the middle of nowhere but it looked like they had been there ages. (I have a really bad phobia) But all in all we had a really good stay, the bed and sofa was super comfy, we will recommend to all of our friends and family!

  • "We had an amazing weekend for our 1st wedding anniversary."

The lake is stunning and it is so quiet and peaceful. The lodge is perfect! Comfy carpet in the bedroom and the bed is like a cloud. So cosy and honestly we said we could see ourselves living here. Amanda was very helpful when it came to the main gate to the lake. The bread, eggs, milk and butter were a lovely touch. We also found some board games in one of the footstools which we loved. We couldn’t have asked for better to be honest. The new fencing out the front definitely helped with privacy and we enjoyed the hot tub even though the rain kept coming and going. We will definitely be back and may even bring our kids next time. Thinking of making it a yearly tradition for our anniversary.

  • "Lodge was very cosy and comfortable and hot tub was fab."

The owner provided milk eggs bread and butter plus basic condiments which was great and lots of fresh towels. The Fishing lodge is right by the gates so be prepared for everyone using the other lodges and the maintenance guys to be passing the front of the lodge throughout the day. With the hot tub out the front it isn’t as private as it could be. The owner could do with leaving a book on useful info such as how to use the hot tub, how the oven and microwave work, good local taxis, takeaways and pubs. We had to figure this out for ourselves and when you’re only there for a weekend you need a helping hand for a fast start. A lovely quiet place to chill with your friends or a romantic get away for sure. We’ll be back!

You can’t hear any noise from the water sport area, the stars are so clear and pretty of an evening (which you can enjoy from the hot tub!) and the owners and staff at the lake are so friendly! We’d absolutely love to book again next summer and maybe even a Christmas to put the log burner to good use! 11/10 x

  • "Amanda and Mona were fabulous at sorting the issues we encountered on our first night."

Mona’s number given to you by Sykes is missing a digit so doesn’t work- you can find it in the info book inside the lodge though. The whole area and the lodge are so peaceful and idyllic, you could almost picture it as a holiday abroad. The hot tub is absolutely amazing, we could’ve spent every waking hour in it! A few setbacks however. The mattress and the sofa could do with updating- both were very uncomfortable. The shower isn’t great, you have to compromise on either heat or water pressure. The plates are too big to fit in the dishwasher and also the sink so washing up is a mission in itself. In spite of the above, we loved it. Listening to the owls whilst in the hot tub at dusk is an absolute joy. This place is a gem but with a little tweak here and there and a bit of TLC it’ll be an absolute diamond.

  • "I have emailed Sykes cottages as we had a really really disappointing stay due to the constant sound of diggers and works men going up and down waking us up early in the mornings!"

I am currently waiting for an email back. Also the kitchen ware, eg. Plates bowls cups, trays were all covered in the last persons food. The photos aren’t an accurate representation of the cabin inside, for the price I payed we could have got flights to Spain for a nicer weekend.

  • "This log cabin is a real hidden gem!"

We had an absolutely amazing holiday here and loved every minute. It’s even better than described. We wanted a really relaxing holiday and that’s exactly what we got but there are amenities like restaurants nearby if you want to explore. The cabin has everything you need, all kitchen utensils too and the owners really couldn’t do anymore for you. When we first got there the main oven had stopped working, these things happen, but the owner went straight out bought a microwave and had an engineer with us by 930am the next day which was a Sunday on a bank hols weekend!! And we had a top oven that worked and would have been sufficient. That’s service for you! The owners are there when you need them but give you full privacy if you don’t. We went kayaking, paddle boarding, walking, fishing, relaxed in the hot tub and sat in front of the fire out on the terrace of an evening. You get full private use of the land in front of the cabin to the lake too. I really can’t recommend this place enough, you can probably tell :) and will definitely be back again soon.

the water in the lake is crystal clear and you can watch the fish swim right up to the bank. the lake is perfect for swimming and the lodge host Amanda was friendly and helpful they even provided life jackets and paddle boards we used on the lake and thoroughly enjoyed (it was our first experience on paddle boards and even for complete novices it was easy to do). We also enjoyed the lazy spa, BBQ and sitting at night watching the sun set before lighting the log burner and listening to the owls and fox's. A great location for easy days out to hastings, canterbury and margate but in all honesty once you settle by the lake you don't want to leave. We have rebooked already for next year.
