  • "The Old Dairy was very good had all we needed for a great holiday and location was great."

Bus stop only 50m for bus into Canterbury and only 2pound for a single ticket. The Smugglers inn is 40m away and has plenty of drinks on offer and Colin was very friendly. The Curious Cat is a 15 minute walk and serves good food and drinks at reasonable prices. The property was very comfortable and a nice patio area for a quiet drink. Elaine was a great hostess and was so helpful with our travel plans. Would definitely stay again if and when we visit England.

It is peaceful and quiet. The bed and sofa are both comfortable. We enjoyed our week in spite of the facilties being dated. Cobwebs and dust were prevalent and a fair bit of mould and limescale in the bathroom. Also, the bins were overflowing.

Sorry to hear the Old Dairy wasn't up to the standard we expect. Thank you for your feedback, we have taken it on board and will have the housekeeper rectify on changeover. Property Owner

  • "The Cottage needed a lot of updating and hadn’t had a proper clean before our arrival kitchen equipment needed replacing and chairs etc needed a clean The windows didn’t shut properly the paint around them was flaking off The toilet wouldn’t flush properly and was reported the week before our visit we were there for two weeks and it took over a week for it to be repaired There were no blinds at the kitchen /bathroom windows We had snail trails in the kitchen most mornings."

    A very disappointing visit

We now have a new cleaning company to clean the property. The paint around the windows has been repainted, although this is unfortunately an ongoing issue that we have tried several times to resolve. The kitchen and bathroom now have new blinds. Apologies that your visit wasn't as we would wish. Property Owner

  • "We reported that the toilet would not flush sporadically on the first day - not resolved at any point in our stay."

Decor- bare patches of plaster around the bedroom window. Sealant around bathroom sink badly cracked. External paint in poor condition. No blinds in kitchen or bathroom. Equipment- no oven gloves, plates, glasses etc were mismatched. Very little cutlery. No where to put dry food. Towels need replacement soon. Generally, needs a make over with attention to detail. Suggest owners sleep and eat in the unit to see the need for more and better quality equipment.Do Sykes actually regularly check the standard of cottages?

We are really sorry about the issue with the toilet. We were aware that this was a sporadic fault and did contact a plumber immediately, who then was unable to come. We did eventually get hold of a plumber and the toilet flush is fully functioning. The sealant around the bathroom sink has been addressed and a painter is due to revisit the property in the spring/early summer to paint the outside. The plates and glasses have been replaced and another set of cutlery purchased. We were unaware that the oven gloves had gone missing, these have no been purchased. New towels purchased and extra set in wardrobe as always. Apologies that your experience wasn't as we had wished. Property Owner

Immaculately clean and tidy and larger than it appears in the photos. The village has a very good service to the bus station in Canterbury. A visit to the Butchers Arms (the UKs first micro pub) is a must

  • "The cottage needs a bit of work on the windows as they are hard to close."

The shower is very small and nothing to hold on to. The kitchen needs better cutlery i.e. scissors and the tin opener is really hard to use. The bed was very comfy and so was the couch. It was a shame that there was builders in the garden all week, so we cloud not use the outside seating area most of the week. The entrance is very very tight to get out of, it is right on to a very busy road. The plus side are the owners who are very nice and helpful and also being able to use the buses from just up the street. Very good area to visit as the public transport to all areas are very good. Shame there was no pubs for a meal near by. But we really enjoyed our week there.

  • "The cottage was situated in between houses which front directly onto the Main Street."

This makes access and exit a bit difficult. The people were pleasant and had left milk etc for us on arrival. The cottage itself was very gloomy, due to the size of the windows and the aspect of the property. The shower was a little bijou, but it worked well. There were no curtains just Venetian blinds, which gave a stark quality. The bed was comfortable. I think the property could do with a lick of paint inside particularly around the windows. Herne is well positioned to visit several interesting places.

But have recommended the property to several friends as, with that one exception, it's beautiful and ideal for touring that part of Kent. The mattress is a purely individual matter and what suits one wont suit another!

The shower was a little tricky being quite small with nowhere to put your soap etc, but the bed was super comfortable and the electric wall heaters warmed up the cottage very quickly when we arrived. We were welcomed and shown where to park. Getting back out on to the main road can be tricky - we were very grateful for the mirror to see what was coming!

There was a large crack on the underside of the toilet seat -must have been like that for a while as it was discoloured, as was the sealant around the bottom of the toilet. Also the DVD player didn’t work wouldn’t play any of the films, there’s or our own.

  • "Facilities - only reason for reduced score was lack of washing machine and bath (and the shower was slightly temperamental) - but they did offer a laundry service :-) Location - only reason for reduced score was lack of pavement just outside the property, which made guiding my (blind) partner safely rather nerve-wracking, plus the village shop (only one, I think) REALLY didn't have much good stuff in it, so getting any provisions involved a car trip, which we didn't envisage."

.but that's nobody's fault. :-) Lastly, I missed seeing the "welcome folder" with all the details for the first half of our stay. Once found, it was very helpful - but can I suggest it's left on the coffee table, where it'd be more obvious? These are all minor points, though - only made as I believe (hope) that feedback is helpful.. The place was lovely and welcoming and very comfortable! :-) Regarding publishing this, you can if you want to.. and feel free to edit if needed. I wouldn't PARTICULARLY like you to, but I don't mind.
