  • "Overall this is a lovely comfortable house in a great location but it is let down by poor maintenance and lack of attention to detail - worst things were bins overflowing on arrival in garage area and dismantled fire alarm in downstairs hall / many broken blinds / top shower water flow issues / tumble dryer did not heat up or dry clothes / there was no water in top toilet on arrival at all so smelly - easily resolved with a flush!"

No toilet paper, no dishwasher or washing tablets /no wash cloths or sponges/ no bin bags or instructions about the house or area / you expect a minimum of things these days. All above could be very easily resolved and blinds not an issue in February but it would be a problem in summer . We moved bin out when we saw other bins out next door but still had no room for our rubbish once we had put other rubbish bags in bin when it was emptied - that was not our job - an instruction on what day to put rubbish out would help ! Key safe is very stiff and had come away from the wall on arrival / no instructions sent for keys / we had to chase All above is such a shame as we still enjoyed our stay having resolved many issues ourselves but it could have been a 10/10 !

  • "A lovely modern property & only a 2 minute walk from the beach, but there are several issues which should have been addressed before renting it out."

The outside bins were overflowing & with bags on top (this had already been mentioned in a previous review & still happening), no information manual, no departure instructions, not enough spoons, only 1 set of mugs & no cups, only 3 glass tumblers for an apartment which sleeps 6 (the rest were all plastic) one duvet cover was torn, 2 toilet brushes between 3 toilets, no curtains or a blind at the kitchen window (which is overlooked), the lounge blind's cord had broken & they had to be manipulated by hand every time they were drawn, the same with one of the bedroom's blinds, no curtains at all to another bedroom, no curtains on the landing windows (which are overlooked), the furniture on the upstairs balcony was filthy & rusty & needs replacing (again already mentioned in a previous review), and when first arriving at the property the battery on the outside key safe was dead so it couldn't be accessed, and when it was there was no key inside!!

  • "Fantastic location for the beach and Hythe and it’s numerous restaurants."

We found the house clean, there were some condiments and Tassimo pods which were appreciated. No key in the key safe on arrival. This was very quickly rectified and when brought the new key we were advised a toilet seat had been removed as it was broken, a new one had been ordered and would change it that day or the next. This never appeared during our whole week ! No covers on garden furniture just foam cushions and the top floor chairs were so rusty they should just be thrown away nobody could possibly sit on them. A welcome book with bin days would be handy as they were overflowing when we arrived, maybe from a previous guest. Agree with a previous review that a frying pan would be better than a pancake pan and also a spatula would be useful. Overall we really did enjoy our stay.

  • "Fantastic location just a few steps from the beach and nice modern house that is light and bright."

This property feels as though it’s new to holiday rental and may have just been a normal long term rental property before - there was no visitor pack with info on local restaurants etc , where to leave the key at the end of the stay and instructions on how to use equipment- hunted for the WiFi code which was dangling from some flowers! Struggled with induction hot plate .Frying pan and fish slice would have been good, tassimo coffee pods were provided which was nice. Top outdoor patio was very cobwebby and chairs rusty so could not use. Very comfy bed and bright and light so overall very good stay, just a few tweaks needed to make even better

About the location

HYTHE

  • Folkestone 4.3miles
  • Channel Tunnel 4 miles
  • Dymchurch 6 miles
  • Dover 13 miles, Canterbury 20 miles

Hythe is one of the five original Cinque Ports identifed by Edward the Confesssor as ports that would provide ships and sailors to protect this part of the English coastline from invaders, and in exchange the towns would retain all legal fees assigned in court cases. Of course this made these towns far more prosperous than most towns of the same size, and the result of this can still be seen by visitors when visiting Hythe. Running through the centre of the town is The Royal Military Canal. This was dug during the Napoleonic era as a defensive measure against possible French invasion. Now this lovey waterway is more popular with walkers and those taking a break from work; the grassy banks are a delightful place to picnic or sit and read. You can even hire a rowing boat and row yourself along the Canal and this unique part of Kent. A five minute stroll from the town and you will find yourself on the sea front. This wide promenade overlooks a long stretch of beach, with views over the English Channel to France, it is ideal for a summer picnic and safe bathing. Hythe offers visitors so much with golf, tennis, riding, bowls, squash, boating, windsurfing, freshwater and sea angling all available. Romney Marsh lies west of the town and can be explored by foot, car, bicycle or using the world's smallest public railway. Hythe is the eastern terminus for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway, so why not climb aboard and alight at Dungeness where you can visit the nature reserve, explore the lighthouse, and perhaps get a chance to see some painters and artists at work, before returning by the narrow gauge railway back to the delights of Hythe.
