  • "A brilliant little gem - we loved our stay!"

The shepherds hut is cosy and comfortable, and you get to look out and see sheep, guinea fowl and Violet the pig! The owners are so friendly and were very welcoming. The gated area made it so easy with our greyhound, and we enjoyed the outdoor fire cooking option and the little log burner. Will definitely come back :)

  • "The Shepherds Hut at Marley is the perfect getaway for a couple with a dog!"

The hut and surrounding fields are lovely and peaceful. The garden of the hut is well fenced off so your pup can’t escape. We also visited three pubs, all within walking distance, which were called the Black Robin(closest pub), the Mermaid Inn(my personal favourite) and the Duke of Cumberland. We drank and ate in all three pubs and everything was very good. Thanks Lucy for your great hospitality! -Matt

The shepherds hut was perfect and cosy, lots of hot water for our showers. Weather could have been better however it really didn’t matter. Pleased I took a hot water bottle!Violet the pig, the sheep and ponies were a bonus alongside the wildlife. My dog was very chilled, all fenced in so no worries about the animals. The property was immaculately clean, well maintained and the decor was exquisite. A really warm, welcoming and enjoyable place to relax; with an arrivals pack of essential needs being most welcome. The owners were very friendly and helpful and nothing was of any trouble to them. Then there's Violet.....the utmost neighbourly, friendly pig ever! There to welcome you of a morning and greet you at the end of the day when you return. A genuinely delightful place to holiday, I would highly recommend it to all.

It was real relaxation. We didn't get great weather and we were cold at one point but we needn't have worried as, apart from the wood burner, there's an electric heater. Two pubs within walking distance - and lovely walks too.

  • "The shepherd's hut is located in a secluded area of the farm."

It was very cosy once we lit the log burner. There was everything we needed and a very comfortable bed. The outside area was secure for our escape artist terrier so we didn't worry about letting him out on his own. The surrounding area is great for walking. We walked to The Mermaid pub but they don't do food on Mondays so we walked on to The Black Robin. Our lunch there was excellent. Considering Marley is only 7 miles from Canterbury the roads are very quiet. Thank you Lucy and Steve - we would love to return, perhaps in Spring or Autumn.

  • "Lucy was fantastic, she was friendly and obliging over text and helping me get in."

The Hut itself is a beautiful thing. I was able to cook easily and one can make the space quite toasty of a chilly evening if you so wish. Its on a very pretty farm; I enjoyed seeing Velvet the pig in the morning from the bathroom window and loved the horse who would often approach the enclosure out of carefree curiosity. The Hut door faces the sunrise. As I was there to meditate and relax, I was delighted to discover the open to public spiritual gardens and yurt of "The Quiet View" only two minutes up the road (give it a google). I really enjoyed the country lane and woodland walks the surrounding area had to offer. I was surprised how quiet and left to my own devices I could get as its only 7 miles from a city. I popped into Canterbury for the Cathedral (and Tesco) and it was only 20 mins on the bus with a £2 card tap. That said, a breezy walk into next village Barham has quite a nice shop and Bishopsbourne the other way had a nice pub and cafe. About 150m up the road from the Hut was a blue plaque for the Sculptor Henry Moore who lived there in the 30s (for any fellow nosy art nerds out there!). A really gorgeous stay, I shall return.

The hut is nicely fitted out & comfortable - obviously space is at a premium but you have everything you need including a little wood burning stove which makes it very cosy. The cooking facilities are quite adequate for one-pot meals or stir-fries - there are 2 rings which are super-fast. You won’t manage to do a roast as there is no oven but there are nearby pubs that do good meals. There is a toaster & a fridge & a separate bathroom with shower. Canterbury is a very short driving distance & is always a delight to visit. Happily back to its busy, buzzing self after Covid. A lovely place to stay - owners provided bread, milk & eggs - what more could you want for a lovely countryside break?
