  • "It was lovely to have basic provisions available on arrival - tea, coffee selections, milk, toilet rolls, napkins etc."

The addition of blankets for pets to use on the couch is nice, and thoughtful to provide dog-do bags. The property is just as it looks, cosy and comfortable. There is a well maintained and interesting wildlife garden, with lots of seating (weather permitting). Well situated for local walks, and travel in all directions, with plenty of interesting places to visit within a 30 - 40 minute drive radius. Excellent garden centre, pub and Indian takeaway locally too. We have had a great time at this property, and plan to return.

House is great and i'm looking forward to staying there again in the near future. Hopefully the weather will be better so i can sit out in the lovely garden

Great communication with the owner, the property was perfect for us everything we needed for our stay, location was great as well close to Ashford outlet Canterbury and not too far from London

  • "The post office was generally a comfortable holiday home."

It reminded me of a Gites de France, with it's eclectic mix of decor, ornaments etc. There is some uneveness of the flooring which someone who is not steady on their feet might have a problem with. We looked at OS maps before booking and were pleased to see quite a few marked footpaths so were looking forward to being on them with our dog. However, apart from the signpost, most were impossible to actually find. There are some walks on cards at the home but these were published in 2001 and many have changed since. As with many places, a lot of motorists completely ignore the 30MPH limit through the village so there is regular noise from traffic. The dishwasher wasn't working so no change from washing up fo us

It mixed a feeling of old Kent with every mod con required for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

  • "The accommodation worked well for us with the upstairs and downstairs duplication of facilities."

It felt like a lived in home that we were borrowing for the week but it had everything that we needed. The large screen TV in the downstairs lounge was a plus. With the fine weather we were also able to enjoy meals at the large table in the garden.

  • "Property was very well equipped to the point of cluttered."

No where in kitchen to put any food we’d brought for the week except the fridge. Great having two kitchens though. Garden was very over grown and although charming not easily accessible in parts - may have been a worry if you had young children, my elderly mum had a problem accessing some parts of the garden. We had to clean down the garden furniture before using it. Next door are building a house so all week there was building work which started at 8am! Owner had left lots of tea/coffee/sugar etc. there was every utensil imaginable. So many towels and linen. The stay was really comfortable but more like staying at someone’s house whilst they were still living there. Ruckinge is very rural. Nothing there except a church and a pub. But it’s only 15 minutes to the sea and a great place for walking. Property is good for taking your furry friends. All in all we had a good holiday and a lovely rest in this. quirky property. Thank you.

  • "When you walk into this property it is akin to receiving a 'warm and welcoming embrace' - it is a feeling of 'home'."

The kind of place where you know that it has been 'lived in' with personal memontos - but not intrusive to your own stay - they simply add to the overall experience. For a group of people, a family with teenagers or 2 families the space is perfect - a real 'upstairs downstairs' layout with 2 living spaces all in one - perfect! One is met by the owner who was friendly and informative, and the Instruction Manual filled in any other gaps. The large outside space was a veritable 'Garden of Eden' with several seating spaces as one makes one's way from the front to the rear and if you block out noises from neighbours you can imagine a little paradise, especially if the weather is kind. A maintenance issue with the iron was settled promptly with no hassle from the owner. Kudos!

  • "Very enjoyable week in an unusual property, with modern comforts but also a lot of character (and an absorbing collection of local books!"

). We only used half of a quite large house, but could well imagine coming back with friends. The owner Chris showed us round on arrival, and provided meticulous guidance for appliances such as the wood burner. All good!

  • "Lovely, comfortable property and would be big enough for two families."

It’s like taking a step back in time and very relaxing. Accurate description - don’t expect modern or minimal. Lots of walks nearby and easy to get to Kent coast beaches.

  • "This was a lovely cottage to stay in and very central to get to places."

The house was spotless and had everything you would possibly need. Perfect for 2 families, or even for a girls week away which is what we had, the lay out meant we had space and didn't have to be together all the time... 2 kitchens and 2 living rooms gave us room to be sociable or not. The log burner was a lovely addition and we spend most of our evenings in the dining room as it was so cosy. Chris met us and showed us around which was a lovely touch - made it that bit more personal. Thank you for facilitating a lovely week away.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Old Post Office, we were met by the owner and shown around , we were really impressed by the little extra's for our furry friend."

I spent the week trying to work out how it was laid out in the days of it being a working Post Office, I would have loved to have seen some photos! I can't think of anything that we needed during the week that was not available, the fans were very much appreciated as we were staying during the hottest few days. We had a great day at Great Stone beach in front of the Yacht Club on the hottest day, and thoroughly enjoyed our day in Ramsgate where we visited the Tunnels. We found The Dukes Head in Hamstreet to be very good value and the food was delicious, alongside very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommend this charming cottage as a base for exploring Kent.

  • "The owners met us to show us round and explain how things worked."

Every appliance had laminated instructions which were very helpful. We were given milk, tea bags, coffee, and drinking chocolate. Even nappy bags, dishwasher tablets and cleaning materials were in abundance. The book shelves had a wonderful supply of maps, guides and reading materials, including many on local history. Upstairs was light ,airy and tastefully decorated. We stayed downstairs ,being just a couple plus dog. The king sized bed was very comfortable. We both slept very well.We have experienced terrible beds in some self catering places. Unfortunately beds don’t get a comfort standard in self catering, and it can be a gamble. We had the feeling that we were sharing someone’s actual home, rather than a place with no atmosphere. The garden was well fenced so we didn’t have the worry that our dog would escape. The Old Post Office is well situated for access to the Military Canal and dog walks, plus the Romney Marsh.

  • "We spent 3 days walking the Royal Military Canal and The Old Post office Ruckinge was the perfect place to return to each evening to chill out."

It is well equipped, very spacious but also very homely. The only downside was that we didn't have much time to spend in the garden which is full of surprises. Ideal for walkers, otherwise a car is a necessity, as the bus service is non existent and cabs are unwilling to come out that far as we found out. After walking 6 miles to Appledore , and being refused by several cab firms it was only the good will of a local that saved us from having to walk another 6 miles back ! I have to add that the canal walk is beautiful.

HAMSTREET

Ivychurch 4.3 miles; West Hythe 8.8 miles; Ashford 9 miles.

The village of Hamstreet lies 6 miles south of Ashford on the A road between Ashford and Hastings. Until the coming of the railway in 1853, Hamstreet was just a hamlet known as ‘Ham’ based around the village centre which contains many buildings in the traditional Kentish weatherboard style. Today, the village is known for offering a selection of independent shops, cafés, a convenience store, a pub and an Indian restaurant. Surrounding the village are two large areas of public woodland, namely Ham Street Woods and Orlestone Forest, which are both regarded as Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
