. We arrived to find a welcome pack including wine and beer and the informayion folder was one of the best we have seen. Only drawback was the very poor wifi reception and we even struggled with accessing 4G until we went outside. The only other comment I would make is that we would have much preferred a Saturday to Saturday booking. Coming from the North the Friday traffic around London and the motorways was horrendous and added a couple of hours onto our journey time both coming and going. All in all though we had a great time and would certainly visit Rye again.

Did not mention however that there was a water pump in the bedroom cupboard. When taps used it was quite noisy. Could also sometimes hear the neighbours pumps. Only a minor point was the sofa is quite small and not very comfortable.

Comfortable accommodation with nice views over the tidal river. In places the property needs some updating and redecoration. The floor boards need attention as there are lots of squeaks and noise from them. The cleaning wasn't quite up to scratch. Drink stains left on the nest of tables, crockery found with dirty marks on (although that would probably be due to the previous occupants rather than the cleaners). They could do with a new vacuum cleaner as there were hairs on the carpet. So the cleanliness let the property down.

You do need a good torch , as we found out on the first night making our way back to the apartment . We found 2 in the broom cupboard the next day. Plenty of clothes hanging space ,with supplied hangers. We had our own parking space, which is great as parking can be very difficult our friends told us. Wonderful place to stay. I would stay here again. My one and only grouse, some of the floorboards creaked quite loudly, and as we are quiet people ,i felt sorry for the people downstairs, as our apartment was on the first floor. Thanks to Geoff the owner for a great place to stay.

Gardens and houses within easy reach; attractive countryside and villages. The interesting location of the holiday property on the tidal river.

  • "The flat was as it appeared in the brochure - clean and well decorated."

It was in a good location - 5 minutes to walk into town where there were some excellent restaurants and interesting shops. It was an added bonus that the train station was a 10 minute walk away so we didn't have to use the car every day for sightseeing.

  • "Within easy walking distance of the Rye and its railway station, making it unnecessary to use the car, except for visits further afield."

Also, two bicycles are provided for guest's use. There are several interesting and safe cycle routes within easy reach of the property, which we explored.

  • "It was a last minute booking and we were not disappointed by the apartment or its location with nice views and close to town as stated on the website."

The owner went out of his way to leave flowers, beer, wine, milk, tea, coffee etc and all the necessary kitchen supplies ie dishcloths, washing up liquid etc. He also left bikes for our use which was a nice thought. The area itself was very interesting and we were very lucky with the weather

About the location

RYE

Camber 5 miles; Hastings 12 miles; Battle 16 miles.

Rye is a 13th century cinque port in East Sussex, host to the River Rother, Romney Marshes and a history dating back before the Norman Conquest. A cobbled town offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery, Rye also has a delightful range of tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and historic inns. There is also a weekly general market on Thursdays, as well as a farmers’ market every Wednesday morning. The town played host to BBC film crews for nine weeks in the summer of 2014, while filming of the TV series Mapp and Lucia took place, which has now been made into a DVD. All coastal scenes were filmed in nearby Camber Sands and bits of filming also took place in Hastings and the Tenterden Town railway station. Walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy a footpath leading across the marshes to Camber Castle built by Henry VIII. Local attractions include miniature or full-size steam train rides, local vineyards, stately homes, castles, gardens and beaches, including the beautiful nearby Camber Sands. Artists and photographers will especially enjoy the scenery; big skies, winding roads, and picturesque villages with ancient inns and tea shops. A truly relaxing and wonderful holiday destination.
