A lovely holiday at historic Flushing House . Rye is a picturesque town with excellent facilities and interesting places nearby to visit. Good and numerous local restaurants plus the kitchen facilities at the house are impressive.

  • "Lovely historic cottage, right in the middle of the old part of Rye - great location, near to lots of restaurants and pubs."

Cottage has loads of character but you need to be nimble for the staircase!

  • "It’s in a great location and perfect for a week in Rye."

Owners were very helpful as regards parking. The house was beautifully cool which the dog appreciated - and full of character! The only drawback was my husband (6 ft) found he had to duck to get through the doorways - not a problem for me though! We felt quite superior to the tourists walking by - so many took photos of the property although no-one asked to see inside fortunately. We very much enjoyed the stay.

Many thanks for the lovely review. You really had the most wonderful weather. Glad you enjoyed the town and the cottage plus the unique nature of our Tudor house and its architectural details that come with a grade 2 * listed building. Property Owner

  • "Well presented historic property in a fabulous location in the old part of Rye."

The owners were very nice & helpful and we had a great week there. The only small thing I would change was the heating control was set to not go above 20, as I say just a very small thing, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Glad that the stay in our cottage was a good one. With regards to the heating, we’re surprised that the heating needs to be above 20 degrees in May and in a very warm cottage. Property Owner

  • "The management of the booking was very good and very easy."

Flushing House is excellent and right in the centre of activity in the old town. The information provided both with regard to the access and the house facilities is extremely helpful. The information about the local restaurants and shops is welcome as is the information about local attractions and transport. The house itself is an attraction and is very comfortable. We had a very happy holiday.

  • "This is a charming, spacious, stylish, historical and well-furnished house."

We were much impressed by the kitchen and laundry facilities and the homey living room furniture. The kitchen equipment and amenities were more than adequate and exceeded our expectations. The dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer worked perfectly and are an asset. All entertainment devices in the living room worked well and enhanced our stay. Flushing House has a central location in the "citadel" of Rye, the most fashionable quarter of the town, immediately adjacent to Ypres Tower Castle, St. Anthony's Catholic church, St. Mary's Anglican church and the Town Hall. There are excellent tea houses, restaurants, pubs and quaint shops within a short walking distance and Jempson's Supermarket is also close by. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were congenial and helpful, immediately available by phone and e-mail.. We cannot recommend Flushing House and Rye highly enough to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable, cultured and comfortable stay in England.

About the location

RYE

Camber 5 miles; Hastings 12 miles; Battle 16 miles.

Rye is a 13th century cinque port in East Sussex, host to the River Rother, Romney Marshes and a history dating back before the Norman Conquest. A cobbled town offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery, Rye also has a delightful range of tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and historic inns. There is also a weekly general market on Thursdays, as well as a farmers’ market every Wednesday morning. The town played host to BBC film crews for nine weeks in the summer of 2014, while filming of the TV series Mapp and Lucia took place, which has now been made into a DVD. All coastal scenes were filmed in nearby Camber Sands and bits of filming also took place in Hastings and the Tenterden Town railway station. Walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy a footpath leading across the marshes to Camber Castle built by Henry VIII. Local attractions include miniature or full-size steam train rides, local vineyards, stately homes, castles, gardens and beaches, including the beautiful nearby Camber Sands. Artists and photographers will especially enjoy the scenery; big skies, winding roads, and picturesque villages with ancient inns and tea shops. A truly relaxing and wonderful holiday destination.
