  • "We had a great time at Lily Cottage!"

It is very well located - just a few minutes by foot from the train station and the supermarket. And of course to the nice old town. The cottage has a great atmosphere and is well equipped. We would love to come back in future!

It’s perfectly positioned in Rye, near to the pubs and restaurants. It’s beautifully decorated, comfortable bed and dog friendly. We will definitely be returning. Just want to say thank you for accommodating my late booking and quick response from the owners.

  • "Hello really happy with the stay, this is our 3rd time staying at Lily Cottage."

Really nice touches such as having the Nespresso machine. One very small piece of feedback is that perhaps the freezer part of the fridge needs defrosting. We did try to use the freezer part for our dogs food but it semi-defrosted and went off and he wouldn't eat it, we had to by extra food from the pet shop. Would be great if you could check this for next time. Thank you.

  • "Well, the town of Rye is delightful and we really enjoyed visiting it and the various attractions in the area."

The welcome pack was excellent and the cottage was clean and tidy. However, if I book accommodation for 6 I expect it to accommodate 6 people. Lily Cottage doesn't. There was nowhere we could all sit to eat a meal together, the kitchen table seated 4 on very uncomfortable chairs and two stools, and even that was a squash and meant that you couldn't get to the cooker or the wholly inadequate fridge (which hadn't been defrosted so there was nowhere to put anything frozen.) There were two tiny sofas in the sitting room and one chair, again not really adequate for 6 people. The outside space was entirely useless, completely hemmed in and overlooked and room for 2 people only. The bathroom looks nice on the website but in practice is hopeless. The bath is so narrow that you can barely turn round in it, and the taps so inconveniently situated that you bang yourself on them. The bath is very slippery and there was no anti-slip mat. Nor is there a grab handle for the bath so anyone using it would is older would find it impossible to get out. The curtain sticks to you most unpleasantly and it completely cuts out the light from the (already dim) single light so you shower in the dark at night. Shaving is impossible because you can't see anything. My husband ended up shaving over the kitchen sink. The cupboard space was so limited that there was nowhere to put food and the fridge far too small. The plumbing needs some attention, several times the water came up the kitchen sink and was very slow to drain away, the dishwasher made extraordinary noises. Overall the lighting is very poor so the whole effect was gloomy, which was rather how we felt about the whole experience. The cottage was very expensive and poor value for money compared to the many other places we have rented at peak holiday times.

  • "Lily Cottage was very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, had everything you could possibly need for a self catering break."

The welcome pack was amazing, the courtyard garden is a little sun trap. We were within walking distance to everything amazing selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as local tourist attractions. Carpark a few yards away and only £2 per day for 24hrs parking. Fabulous break away.

  • "The cottage was beautifully presented and in a lovely part of Rye."

My step son at 18 decided not to come on holiday in the end and tbh I think it was a wise move. The cottage is very small and although fine for 3 adults any more and it would have been difficult. The welcome pack was wonderful and the cottage was extremely clean and fresh. Issues we were disappointed with was the back yard was very small and not particularly a place you wanted to spend much time. A few plants ir flowers may have helped. The Internet was very slow and generally unusable. Albeit it wasn't a great problem. What was a problem was the bathroom and particularly the bath layout. A beautiful bathroom but totally inappropriate. No lock on the bathroom door and the beautiful bath with central mixer taps with shower was most inconvenient. Why the taps were in the centre so restricting any chance of a reasonable bath is beyond me looking at the layout. It was nice to get home and have a nice shower last night tbh. So in summary a beautifully presented cottage but it's not suitable for 6 people. And the bath area although classy is not user friendly. Would I come back to Rye .. yes Would I choose this cottage again... probably no.

  • "The Sykes blurb about cleaning is well overstated."

Property was ok , but not really clean. The noise issues were understated, road traffic noise is excessive and drowns out the tv. The pub opposite is really busy and the noise stops at around 10.30. Property walls were not soundproof. Noisy dog one side and screaming baby all night for 4 nights the other side. The property was well located and well equipped. Rye is a very pretty town with lots to see and do. Good selection of pubs and restaurants but take care at the moment as many are fully booked.

  • "We had a great time, the cottage is in a good central location."

I think it would be slight ly cramped with six in it, & would need some extra equipment. the important thing I'd like to share is the condition of the bathroom; the wooden loo seat doesn't raise, which means at some point it's going to get peed on! It also has a crack in it, which obviously makes it difficult to clean. some of the paint on loo seat is worn away. It's a vintage loo & doesn't really flush very efficiently. The wash basin surround is also water damaged with lots of peeling paint. The rest of the cottage is really lovely, & the bathroom didn't spoil our stay, I just think the shabbiness of the chic doesn't really work, practically,or hygienically ,especially in a holiday let. A new basin surround and modern loo, & the place would be perfect. Id like to emphasise that we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I hope this feedback is helpful. Michael & Lin Littlewood

Thank you very much for your comments. We have now replaced the whole toilet system and sink unit in the bathroom. We are glad that you had a lovely holiday in our cottage. Thank you very much for all your comments. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay in Lily Cottage."

It was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and comfortable and very well equipped. We found it a bit of a squeeze - as six adults - to sit together in the evening - due to the proportions of the downstairs living area, but the upstairs accommodation was great with three good sized bedrooms. Lily Cottage is very well situated in Rye, which is a lovely little town with lots to do in the surrounding area. We were very grateful for the welcome pack and little touches such as tea and coffee, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. Parking was not an issue as we were able to park in one of the town car parks which was less than a minutes walk away. There was always a space and it costs £2 for 24 hours.

Excellent heating system provided instant hot water and warmed the house really quickly. Great wifi and smart TV. Lovely sunny courtyard.Very central location means that the house is on a busy road and only has single glazing so you do hear noise outside which wasn't a problem for us You can park outside from 6pm to 8am which is handy for unloading. The market car park is a few minutes walk and costs £2 per 24 hours and works well other than overnight Wednesday and Thursday daytime when the market is on. We found street parking slightly further out of Rye for that. Although the house sleeps 6 the space downstairs would make it a squeeze with more than 4 people. The table seats 4 with 2 places at a breakfast bar and the living room has a three seater sofa and an armchair. We would definitely stay again if returning to Rye.

About the location

RYE

Camber 5 miles; Hastings 12 miles; Battle 16 miles.

Rye is a 13th century cinque port in East Sussex, host to the River Rother, Romney Marshes and a history dating back before the Norman Conquest. A cobbled town offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery, Rye also has a delightful range of tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and historic inns. There is also a weekly general market on Thursdays, as well as a farmers’ market every Wednesday morning. The town played host to BBC film crews for nine weeks in the summer of 2014, while filming of the TV series Mapp and Lucia took place, which has now been made into a DVD. All coastal scenes were filmed in nearby Camber Sands and bits of filming also took place in Hastings and the Tenterden Town railway station. Walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy a footpath leading across the marshes to Camber Castle built by Henry VIII. Local attractions include miniature or full-size steam train rides, local vineyards, stately homes, castles, gardens and beaches, including the beautiful nearby Camber Sands. Artists and photographers will especially enjoy the scenery; big skies, winding roads, and picturesque villages with ancient inns and tea shops. A truly relaxing and wonderful holiday destination.
