It was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and comfortable and very well equipped. We found it a bit of a squeeze - as six adults - to sit together in the evening - due to the proportions of the downstairs living area, but the upstairs accommodation was great with three good sized bedrooms. Lily Cottage is very well situated in Rye, which is a lovely little town with lots to do in the surrounding area. We were very grateful for the welcome pack and little touches such as tea and coffee, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. Parking was not an issue as we were able to park in one of the town car parks which was less than a minutes walk away. There was always a space and it costs £2 for 24 hours.

The property

Placed right in the heart of the stunning town of Rye in East Sussex is this gorgeously decorated terraced cottage.

A Grade II listed building, this well-located property retains many of its classy original features and makes for the perfect stay for families seeking a rural break.

As you step into the heart-warming sitting room, feel instantly at home with the contemporary grey features, rustic wooden floorboards, Smart TV and beautiful feature fireplace making it a wonderful spot to put your feet up at the end of the day.

Head through into a bright and airy kitchen/diner, again sporting the stunning contemporary greys, this setup comes excellently equipped and also plays host to a lovely dining table for the whole group to sit around and enjoy your meals, or perhaps a board game on a rainy day.

Also on the ground floor is the attractively tiled family bathroom, a rainfall shower sits over the bath while the original WC helps to retain the property's fine character.

Take the traditionally narrow stairs to the first floor where you will discover two immaculate double bedrooms, both are finished to a tasteful standard, with one offering access up to the second floor where twin single beds rest cosily under the sloping ceiling to complete the accommodation.

When you're not out making the most of this wonderful town, you may wish to treat you and your loved ones to a delicious BBQ while relaxing in the courtyard to the back of Lily Cottage.

Step out of the front door and discover the charming amenities of this ancient port, its pretty streets are lined with a wealth of different shops and eateries, while you can also visit its number of superb attractions including the Rye Castle Museum and the National Trust's Lamb House.

Close by, lovers of the countryside can trek through the idyllic High Weald AONB, while those who prefer the coast can take the short trip to the beautiful Rye Bay, here you will also find the ever-popular Camber Sands Beach.

Hastings is another fascinating spot close by which is well worth a visit.

Discover all that this sublime region can offer by enjoying a stay at the fabulous Lily Cottage.

About the location

Camber 5 miles; Hastings 12 miles; Battle 16 miles.

Rye is a 13th century cinque port in East Sussex, host to the River Rother, Romney Marshes and a history dating back before the Norman Conquest. A cobbled town offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery, Rye also has a delightful range of tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and historic inns. There is also a weekly general market on Thursdays, as well as a farmers’ market every Wednesday morning. The town played host to BBC film crews for nine weeks in the summer of 2014, while filming of the TV series Mapp and Lucia took place, which has now been made into a DVD. All coastal scenes were filmed in nearby Camber Sands and bits of filming also took place in Hastings and the Tenterden Town railway station. Walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy a footpath leading across the marshes to Camber Castle built by Henry VIII. Local attractions include miniature or full-size steam train rides, local vineyards, stately homes, castles, gardens and beaches, including the beautiful nearby Camber Sands. Artists and photographers will especially enjoy the scenery; big skies, winding roads, and picturesque villages with ancient inns and tea shops. A truly relaxing and wonderful holiday destination.
