  • "Our only reservation was the size of the downstairs en suite."

This could be a problem for large people. We had an excellent family (plus dog) holiday and loved the proximity of the sea and beach.

Thankyou for your feedback ; We are glad you had an excellent family holiday at Coastguard View . We have listened to our guests and have now reconfigured the downstairs WC to a larger en-suite/WC Property Owner

Nearby caravan site was useful for entertainment and for top up food shopping. Neighbours very friendly and host was quick to respond to issues. All in all we enjoyed our stay here.

  • "The winner with this property is it's position."

Right on the beach. My dog has never had so many walks and she loved it (but still would not go in the sea). And even though there is a huge holiday park to one side, it was remarkably quiet. The most noise was from the neighbours who obviously live there, so not much you can do about that. But noise only filtered in from outside. Once indoors, so quiet. Comfortable furnishings and fixtures. As others have said, downstairs loo is too small. Would have been better to add the toilet to the en-suite shower in the downstairs bedroom. But I am not an architect. The downstairs bedroom is an asset if you have someone like my mum who cannot manage stairs but the steps to the front door are not disabled friendly ( I did bring our own ramp which helped). Lots of things in the area but we stayed at the property most of the time and quite happy to do so.

  • "House was fitted out to a good standard."

Toilet downstairs very small and rather smelly as the week went on even though it was cleaned regularly. Some barking from dog next door especially when the neighbours go out, clearly dog is distressed when this happens. One night the dog was left with the radio on plus it still barked which disturbed us all. When the neighbours were in the dog was fine. Pyrex bowls needed none in the property. Great quiet location overlooking the sea. Good walks along one way to Whitstable and the other to Herne Bay. Wingham Zoo well worth a visit. In all an enjoyable stay for us all and weather got better as the week continued.

  • "I really don't think the photos or the reviews do this property justice."

It's wonderful, cozy, clean and warm.. Firstly there are amazing sea views from the conservatory and the upstairs bedrooms. Secondly the property was warm, clean and had all we needed to cook large breakfasts and a full roast dinner. The location was lovely and unlike the centre of Whitstable we felt secluded and private a real bonus for us. The owners sent a message to us on the arrival day to make sure we had a contact, they responded quickly when we needed them. Unlike many properties there was no need to buy additional wood bundles there was plenty of wood for us to use and we had a lovely fire for most of our stay. With 3 toilets,a big family bathroom, 2 shower rooms, getting 6 of us up and ready every day was really easy with no arguing for space. In the day everyone had space to chill out, watch TV, play games, cook a meal. The house is well thought out for comfortable living and having a bigger group. We came in march had mixed weather and a wonderful stay, this house will be bliss in the summer as your walk to the sea which is basically at the end of the garden. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We did contemplate not reviewing Coastguard's view so we could come back again and again....

  • "We had our second stay at the cottage and had another great time."

The kitchen is much improved but we felt the downstairs toilet was to small and would have been, better to have it included in the on-suite downstairs bedroom. We heard scratching noises in the walls in the downstairs bedroom and the bedroom above it.

We are glad you enjoyed your 2nd stay at Coastguard View. We appreciate your feedback and understand that the ground floor WC is small but feel it is better to have than not at all and were debating including the WC within the ground floor en-suite but ruled out that idea . The reason being as when the bedroom is occupied use of the WC by other members staying in the cottage would be restricted. Not sure what the scratching noises were but we will investigate. • "There is much to be liked in Coastguards View."

It’s location right next to the sea between Whitstable and Herne Bay, a Sainsbury’s within walking distance, it offers good parking, comfortable sofas, a modern kitchen, 2 toilets with an en-suite apparently on the way, comfortable beds and good linen, reliable internet, a smart TV and a washing machine with room enough for seven people. As we were there at the beginning of December we didn’t use the outside area but imagine it would be delightful in summer. We had many trips out ( Canterbury, Margate, Whitstable, Herne Bay and even managed a day in London). Slightly negative were the facts that the downstairs toilet was a bit too small and cramped. Grandad had problems. The weather was cold when we were there and the dining area and lounge remained cool as the radiators battled with the cool air rising up through the floor boards and the poor seals on the main doors. The boiler thermostat was set to 15 degrees when we arrived which was too chilly so we changed it to 21 degrees. We did not want to use the open fire. Again this would not be a concern in summer or spring or even a mild autumn. Lastly we thought the arrival time of 17.00 is too late and a bit mean. A previous guest has commented on this too. This was not a problem for us as we were coming from North Wales but Grandad living two hours away who arrived earlier than expected found himself waiting. By this time it was cold and dark. Other properties we have been to, allow guests to arrive at 16.00 or sometimes even 15.00. All in all, however we had a happy stay and can recommend the house and Chestfield Barn restaurant in Whitstable where we all had a lovely family meal. We wish the owners all the best.

Thankyou for your feedback and positive comments. On listening to your feedback we did stay in the property recently and rectified the issue of where cold air was coming in from the floorboards (and have not noticed previously since we use the open fire) should you decide to stay again in the winter and not use the open fire I’m sure you will find the lounge warmer , so thankyou for pointing out this issue . We will also amend the arrival time to 3pm. Best wishes from Coastguard View Property Owner

  • "Great location and view."

Right on the seafront within walking distance of Whitstable. Easy parking for a second car as well. The property was a little tired and, while clean, there were a load of old cobwebs around the place. Kitchen has a modern oven and hobs, and had just enough equipment to be able to cook meal, but could probably use a freshen up. Some basics were missing on arrival (hand and tea towels) but the owners arranged for some the next morning. Bedrooms were very comfortable and there is a good shower. Overall a good property and a great weekend, thank you.

Thankyou for your comments . We have taken onboard them and pleased to say that in November 2022 we installed a new kitchen , shower room and a ground floor WC. Should you return to Coastguard View I’m certain your stay will be more comfortable. Updated pictures will follow soon . Many Thanks Property Owner

  • "The location was fantastic with Herne bay & Whitstable both within walking distance which was fantastic as it meant we didn't have to drive every day."

The property itself is a bit tied with mark on the walls and sofas which have definitely seen better days and could do with replacing. It's a 4 bedroom property (8 person) but with only one bathroom I wouldn't like to be staying there when full. One of the drawers within the bedroom still had someone's else underwear, jeans and tablets left in it, surely this should of been checked before we arrived. It would of been nice to of had a small welcome pack containing a loaf of bread and a pint of milk just to get you through the first night and also some leaflets about local attractions to go and see - we had a Chinese take away menu. Overall we had a good time but just adding a few extra touches like a welcome pack would be welcomed.

Thankyou for your feedback we are glad overall your stay was good and you enjoyed the superb location. I am am pleased To inform you that in November 2022 we installed a brand new kitchen , ground floor en-suite, and separate ground floor WC. We have also decorated and replaced the sofas . • "Beautiful location & spacious rooms."

Well equipped kitchen. Great stay for those who want to explore Canterbury, Dover and surrounding areas. We enjoyed our stay overall! Of course it’s a shame that there is only one bathroom/toilet but we knew that going in, and that can’t be changed like a dirty towel can. Some of the disappointment for us was the change in check-in time …5pm…does push back our day by a lot in the grand scheme of things , and although it was notified a month it advance, it wasn’t like we had a choice of free cancellation. The floor/ceiling/wall were unfortunately also very thin so you could literally hear everything so not good for light sleepers. Someone mentioned a neighbour with dogs in other reviews, and they were not wrong. Just a caveat, it is not the property owners’ fault but I wonder if anything can be done?

  • "The property is very run down and desperately needs a refurb, when we arrived the property was very dirty, stained bench seat, stained sofa, dirty marked kitchen sink and units bath panel not fitted and shelving loose, i could go on, we could not spend one night there, we were offered a clean refurbed property but not till the monday which would mean spending 3 nights in a prem inn, not practical with three young grandchildren."

no compensation offered, i know my holiday was ruined but dont want other people to have the same experience.

We are extremely disappointed with your feedback, you only need to look at the comment below yours from The previous guests which proves your comments are malicious and unjust. All the issues you mentioned were rectified within an hour during our visit to the property. You mentioned during our telephone call the sofa throws were stained, these are changed after every guest, we inspected these and found them to be clean. You stated the bath panel /cabinet was loose which is normal wear and tear as the property is very popular and has back to back bookings, we did say to you our maintenance team were 5mins away and could rectify within the hour. You said the windows were dirty, the window cleaner was due on Saturday being a coastal property they are cleaned weekly . The outside only needed cleaning so should have not affected your stay. We were also kind enough to offer you a brand new property which you declined so we feel that we did everything we possibly could to accommodate you and the only reason we have not offered you any compensation is because we feel you had changed your mind and maliciously picked holes with the property to support your compensation claim. • "On arrival we had to eliminate around 30 cluster flies which were flying around the downstairs area including the bedroom and more appeared the following morning."

the bedrooms were clean and attractive but the rest of the property was not. kitchen & bathroom floors were dirty, kitchen cupboards & hob were sticky and smeared, toilet seat had yellow stain and hairs, shower screen and bath seals were dirty, dirty stains down walls between bath & toilet and by the kitchen bin. laminate on sliding door in kitchen peeling off in places. found dirty tissues in cupboard drawer in downstairs bedroom. property was cold on arrival & nest heating control had been switched off at mains so we had to wait for the thermostat to recharge. There was no fuel for the open fire, the handbook in the property advises that fuel is provided by arrangement with the owner, why is this not made clear on the property listing ? the bedrooms warmed up eventually but the kitchen and lounge area remained cold and was dingy and very dimly lit, not at all welcoming. we stayed one night and went home the following day. we have been renting holiday cottage 2 - 3 times a year for the last 20 years or so and have never complained before. the location is good but we genuinely do not understand how you can rate this property a four.

Many thanks for your feedback and we are sorry you were disappointed when at the property. We will of course in future make sure that there is a starter pack of fuel for the open fire available and more can be arranged during a guest stay by contacting me. We will make this clear on the advert. It is possible that purely due to the weather warming up, that some flies had made their way in, especially if the windows had been opened to air the property on changeover. We do provide two contact numbers pre arrival for guests and we have a maintenance team located only 5 minutes away from the property who would have immediately addressed any concerns if they had been made aware. We have of course advised our teams about the feedback you have sent in so that areas could be checked and maintenance could be addressed straight away. No further issues have been noted since your departure and our maintenance team will of course monitor the property moving forwards. Sykes Cottages also have a dedicated helpline for guests with any concerns during their stay. We are sorry that on this occasion we were not given the opportunity to assist you. I am aware that you have since liaised with Sykes Cottages and thank you for acknowledging to them that the property was in a lovely location, and that you found the bedrooms and garden nice. • "The cottage is lovely and in a stunning location."

The beach is lovely and we walked on the beach every day. The tumble dryer not working was an inconvenience as with 7 of us I would have liked to wash and dry the limited towels provided midweek. There are two ovens in the kitchen but only one worked, again for a large family two would have been more convenient but not a huge problem. What did almost make us come home early was next doors dogs barking excessively every time they went out and left them out at the back. This was around 8-8.30 every week day (woke everyone up every day) all day long Mon and throughout our stay for 2-3 hours at a time. It was a warm week and even with all doors and windows shut they were very loud as it is a terraced property with small back yards. We did send the owners a message on Tues to ask if this was likely to continue all week or was a one off as were considering going home early but didn't get a response. We were away for a family wedding and visiting family so we did stay and try and ignore the barking. We took two dogs with us, we are dog lovers and this was not the odd bark! Other than that the cottage is well furnished, as described and a very nice property with a fantastic outdoor area to enjoy the sunshine with a fantastic sea view. Next doors dogs are clearly not the owners fault but did affect our stay.
