Of course we really enjoyed the hot tub and watching the spitfires and horses pass by. The host Mr Lowry was very friendly and welcoming and gave us a fantastic recommendation for food- The Marquis a local pub... The chocolate marquis dessert there was magic! We would definitely recommend Spitfire Barn to anyone!

  • "It is so peaceful there."

There are cars that drive by but you hardly hear them. The owner was very welcoming and showed us around and made us feel relaxed and at home. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for peace and quiet yet it isn't a million miles away from the local towns and amenities.

  • "The barn was everything we wanted, we found the owner very friendly and helpful."

We had one issue that there was no freezer (our dog has medical issues that require a frozen meat diet) we spoke to the owner prior to our visit only to find a new freezer for us to use. The accomodation was delightful, the sitting room was upstairs with views across the country side and Dover Castle in the far distance. Our stay was the week before christmas and on our arrival it was lovely to be greeted with some christmas decorations and fairy lights. If you are doggy people this is the place for you, plenty of fields to walk in. We will definitely be going back. Sandra and Derek

Aiden made sure we were warm enough (stayed in November) and ensured we were happy with everything, which we most certainly were. Hot tub was immaculately clean and wonderfully warm (which I can’t say as much for the weather). Delightful to be in the hot tub on a chilly evening. Family enjoyed the stay but went far too quickly. Lovely location near to Kent coast, castles, museums, parks and walking.

His dogs are very obedient and stay on their property. The property is best suited for a romantic week away for a couple, and at most 4 people. The hot tub was great! The views from upstairs living room are beautiful, including Dover Castle. It was a super quiet location with easy access to south Kent. Overall great - we definitely recommend.

Checked we were ok and all well during our stay. Only two things we feel could be changed to get “top score” in all categories. 1.Curtain/blind in second bedroom required. My daughter had to fashion one out of the duvet. Just too light with just net curtains. 2. A freezer section in fridge- just so useful. Saying these we would definitely pay a return visit. Loved the countryside setting and look forward to the jacuzzi in the future!!

The cottage was in a very quiet out of the way village, narrow country roads, a lot were single track but the scenery was beautiful. The owner was very welcoming and helpful when needed. One thing worth mentioning is, I phoned Sykes regarding the use of a high chair and cot, was told they were not provided but when we got there it turns out that Aiden the owner did have them available and he very kindly lent us a high chair that we couldn't fit in the car. Looking forward to returning in the future

All finished to exact detail and a high specification. He greeted us on day one and has been a great host all week-we are still here by the way! Perfect setting for exploring the Kent coast. Under an hour to ramsgate and margate and then there is Deal, Hythe, Folkestone and Dover, all under 30mins from the Barn. There is a road outside but please don't let that deter you from staying-you can count on one hand the number of cars that pass by in a Day. Perfect host, perfect location, I would highly recommend you come and enjoy it. Thanks for the hot toddy Aiden, we will enjoy one tonight :)

The setting of the cottage was extremely peaceful and quiet. A lovely country feel to the whole area but only minutes to the sea. I would describe the cottage as bijou rather than spacious although there was plenty of room for two of us. We spent a very pleasant week in the surrounding area and it was very relaxing to return to the cottage each evening. We even managed to go to France for lunch on one day.

Boasting a fabulous mix of contemporary design and rustic charm, this property has been lovingly renovated and is perfect for a couple or small family looking for a rural retreat, nestled within beautiful countryside.

With all but one of the rooms situated on the ground floor, guests can really make the most of the tranquil views of the countryside all around you.

There are two tastefully-furnished bedrooms, a twin and a king-size double, the larger of which benefits from French doors to throw open on a sunny morning and greet the day, whilst the stylish family shower room comes equipped with a walk-in shower.

The delightful open plan living area also has French doors, leading out onto a raised decked area, the perfect spot for reflecting on the day’s adventures.

Upstairs on the first floor there’s an additional sitting room, ideal for members of the party to retire to should they wish to relax in front of the TV, if they can tear themselves away from the stunning pastoral views, with Dover Castle in the distance.

Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the surrounding country is a walker’s paradise, with footpaths and trails leading across lush green fields and rolling hills.

Very close by is Capel-le-Ferne, home to the touching and informative National Memorial to the Few, a place to reflect upon, and learn about Britain’s air defences during WWII.

Just two miles away is Dover, for day trips across the Channel, as well as a wealth of cultural and historical attractions for you to enjoy, not forgetting the absolutely iconic White Cliffs of Dover.

With the golden sands of Margate also within easy reach, not to mention the historical city of Canterbury, Spitfire Barn is the perfect base from which to explore all Kent has to offer.

West Hougham is a lovely rural village, mid-way between Dover and Capel-le-Ferne, both places famous for their connections to some of Britain’s most important Historical events. West Hougham sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it’s easy to see why as the landscape is awash with meadows, fields and woodland, offering visitors a whole host of walks and bridleways to enjoy, with leafy lanes aplenty for cyclists to explore. Very close by is the village of Alkham, with its winding river and a fine selection of pubs and restaurants. You cannot visit this part of Kent without a trip to Dover, with its gateway port and regular ferry trips to the Continent. Stroll along the promenade and inspect the figures of James Bond and others made famous by Ian Fleming who lived at St Margaret at Cliffe, a village that lies between Dover and Kingsdown. West Hougham is a great rural base from which to discover coastlines, beaches, quaint Kent villages, championship golf courses and the stunning countryside.
