  • "Directions need to be amended."

Should read at the end of M2 turn onto A299 the A249 stated is the junction prior and rates you into Sheerness. Found previous tenants underwear in bedside cabinet, property not thoroughly checked over during turnaround. SKY TV not available (this had been previously mentioned on reviews) so would of expected this to have been rectified or us to have been advised this facility was no longer available. Would also suggest the safekey is relocated not the best idea to have this positioned over a drain.

Thank you for your comments. The Sky TV did have a satellite dish location issue but this has been resolved and the property basic Sky entertainment pack does now work again, apologies for any inconvenience during your stay. I have also spoken to the cleaner about rigorous checks on all storage areas to ensure previous guest clothing is removed. I will also check the directions on the guest pre arrival information and amend as necessary. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Fishermans Cottage."

It's a great location for the harbour, the beach and town. Within a few minutes walk you are at the new harbour retail building with a bar, a good cafe, cute gift shops and great places to eat along the harbour. Having the parking space with the house is fantastic and the car didn't move because everything is in walking distance! The cottage had everything we needed and the downstairs bathroom wasn't a problem for my young family. We found the frequently used areas to be clean and in good working order, but there does need to be a good 'spring clean' into areas such as under the freestanding wardrobes and into the hidden corners. It seems silly but things like dusty lightbulbs give off a bad smell. The back bedroom in particular had a weird waxy smell I really didn't like. The TV was disappointing after the listing. The DVD player was broken and needs replacing and the 'Sky TV' is really just Freeview channels and should be listed as such. However, I don't like the kids to have much tech & telly on holiday so I was secretly pleased :D WiFi works very well. The instant hot water was very much appreciated and the newly decorated bathroom was a treat. Thanks to Sykes and the smooth comms with the owner which meant a broken toilet seat was quickly fixed – we're in the middle of potty training so it had extra importance for us. May I suggest the toilet flush also has some improvement to avoid future issues. There are just a few square tiles of 'decking' outside the back door and the back outdoor space could use a little jazzing up and some more robust seating. Overall, it's a fab house and we felt very at home there for our visit. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comments, the cleaning protocol is being addressed to ensure that no areas are missed. I am happy to report that the bedroom has not produced any further odour on checking it. The DVD player was not advertised and will be removed - apologies for any confusion about that. I'm glad you like the newly decorated bathroom and hot water and that the toilet seat could be repaired quickly as I do like to get any issue addressed as soon as I am made aware. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage in the perfect location, private parking to the rear."

The only downside was the blinds in the bedrooms, we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather which meant the sunshine came straight through the blinds, needs some type of blackout blind.

Many thanks for your comments, the bedrooms have they are shutters and I appreciate blinds can be subjective and personal preference but will monitor guest thoughts on this moving forwards. I'm glad you liked the property and that the private parking was useful. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is well placed in Whitstable, a stones throw from the harbour and shops, with parking."

The owner kindly offered an extra night to compensate for the inconvenience of scaffolding being up for four days of our stay. The cottage itself needs a deep clean; sofa covers are grubby and stained, stair carpet dirty. Had to bleach the mugs before use. New bathroom and kitchen are fine but would have preferred a shower panel to a shower curtain. Advertised with Sky tv but was not subscribed to any Sky channels so really just a box to enable recording. Outside area is simply weed choked gravel, not somewhere you’d want to sit.

Response as of Jan 24 -The Sky TV did have a satellite dish location issue, apologies about that but that has been fixed and the Sky basic entertainment package is working for 2024. The property has had all carpets and upholstery cleaned and the garden overgrowth has been cleared. Property Owner

  • "This was our first time in Whitstable, so the cottage was an ideal location to the harbour and walks from there."

Also very handy for buses to Canterbury and Herne Bay. Indoors was fine a typical old cottage with a modernised fairly well stocked kitchen and three spacious bedrooms. The living room was cold as the radiator appeared to be permanently turned off , so unless you wanted to light the fire with newspaper and sticks it was too chilly to use. Outdoors a disappointing garden , is a large pebbled area full of weeds. It would have been good to have some comfy chairs to use. The access path to the side of the cottage was massively overgrown and difficult to negotiate with luggage to get the key from the key safe for access to the house. Not a great first impression. Would we stay again? Possible if attention given to above concerns.

The radiator issue has been resolved and garden overgrowth being addressed. I'm glad you liked the kitchen and found the bedrooms spacious. Property Owner

  • "Really happy here for our family of 5 , location perfect , decorating of the property was lovely with all the touches ."

Very comfortable . The upstairs bedrooms felt a bit dusty around the beds and underneath . A great addition would be some hand soap in the bathroom on arrival (we purchased one and left it in the property ) it’s obviously not a necessity but would be a nice touch . We would def stay again , the coal fireplace was a lovely surprise. Parking for two cars , perfect .

  • "After reading a review about the bathroom and kitchen we were a little apprehensive."

However it appears that a new bathroom and kitchen had been installed and everything was spick and span. The property is advertised as being for 6 but we felt that would be a bit cosy and 4 would be more appropriate. As for the contents of the kitchen we have never been anywhere better stocked. The weather was not good but apart from that we had qood week.

So pleased you had a good holiday at Fishermans Cottage. Glad you liked what we have done to the kitchen and bathroom and thank you for your lovely comments. Regards Pat Property Owner

  • "There were issues with the bathroom which needed repair and replacement of fittings."

The company dealt fairly and promptly when I raised this and I understand that renovation is starting now to both kitchen and bathroom. The location was great and otherwise the house was fine.

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken onboard the comments regarding bathroom repairs and fitting replacements. Since receiving these comments, the property was unavailable for over two months to carry out essential cleaning and maintenance work throughout the property. This included a full kitchen and bathroom refurbishment. Property Owner

  • "A mixed review."

... On arrival it is not made clear that there is a back entrance with wooden gates to park behind and where the back door entrance has the key safe to gain access. Awareness needs to be on the confirmation details for an easy, reassuring start to the holiday stay. The location is ideal and the cottage, if a tad dated, quaint with a comfy lounge and pleasant cosy dining room, tastefully decorated. However the bathroom, off the kitchen!! Is shabby and seriously in need of maintenance with poor grouting and broken tiles. The shower curtain feebly hung with an inadequate support and the toilet seat wobbly and unstable which doesn't bode well for a reassuring comfort sitting! and for the males the seat would not stay up!! The kitchen is small with inadequate space for provisions (for any more than a couple) and we could not get the oven to heat up. The microwave is a mini one as is the fridge. The hot water & heating works well but the constant noisy pumping is a continuous drone, like you've left something on in the kitchen! We all had a headache! The price does not reflect the rating and I feel was not a lot of facility for the money. At £200/night this doesn't warrant 4*. I'd perhaps have tolerated the issues had the price been realistic & more reasonable. Thank you for reading my review I hope it's helpful and of use going forward.

Dear Susanna, Many thanks for your feedback, this is truly appreciated. I have owned this beautiful cottage since 1975. Most of the house has seen extensive renovations since then. I am however aware, due to some feedback mirroring yours, that the bathroom and kitchen are a little behind on modernisation. As of November 2022, a full bathroom and kitchen renovation is underway, with the works due to be completed by February 2023. If you are planning on visiting wonderful Whitstable, I'd love for you consider staying on Fountain Street again. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year. • "Great location, potential to be a lovely holiday home."

Might be good if you had a dog. Not updated recently and not very clean, bathroom and kitchen very basic. A shame as Sykes' cottages are usually better than this and it could be fantastic with some improvements (the upstairs is quite nice).

Dear Frances, Many thanks for your feedback, this is truly appreciated. Your comments on the bathroom and kitchen are similar to some others on this site, I'm glad to confirm as of November 2022, a full bathroom and kitchen renovation is underway, with the works due to be completed by February 2023. Please feel free to get in contact if you are thinking about visiting this lovely, quaint seaside town again. Hopefully these modernisations will redeem the properties previous shortfalls. ..I could say more but will just add this property currently does not deserve 4 **** rating disspointing hol for us

Dear Julian, Many thanks for your feedback, this is duly noted. As a Victorian cottage located so close to the bustling harbour town, space within the kitchen is very limited. I do however take your comments on board and can confirm a full bathroom and kitchen renovation is underway, with the works due to be completed by February 2023. The architects have implemented a better use of the narrow kitchen space - the renders are looking really exciting. The outside seating area over looks the rear driveway entrance, in case you missed it. It catches the sun well throughout the afternoons of the summer months. I will however, be looking at some new furniture out here, for any summer 2023 guests. If you are ever making your way down to Whitstable, hopefully you would re-consider staying on Fountain Street again. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year. About the location

WHITSTABLE

Herne Bay 5 miles; Canterbury 7 miles.

The lively town of Whitstable, which is known as the “Pearl of Kent”, dates back to before the Domesday Book. Its seaside location makes it ideal for watersports all year round, and its fishing heritage is reflected by the Oyster Festival, which takes place every July. The buzzing local museum/art gallery introduces around six new exhibitions each year, and has a fabulous coffee shop. Whitstable Castle dates back to the 1790’s, and hosts events all year round including a big May Day celebration with contributions from local musicians and artists. The town is home to a small, independent brewery, and any need for retail therapy will easily be satisfied by the range of both national stores and charming small, independent shops. Whitstable is also home to The Pearsons Arm, a gastropub owner by celebrity chef Richard Phillips and nearby in Seasalter is the Michelin star-awarded gastropub, The Sportsman which is also well worth a visit. The city of Canterbury, with its fine 6th century cathedral is just 7 miles away; also nearby is Herne Bay, from where on a clear day you can see as far as Southend and the Isle of Sheppey.
