The only one thing we did not like was the settee as it was not big enough for those cosy nights in but other than that it was all good. Maybe if you was a tall man or woman the shower was very small.

  • "Great stay."

We loved the cottage and location. Only thing that worried us was parking as spaces were much sort after, so we used the bus, train and walked a lot. Whitstable station is in easy walking distance and there are bus stops only a couple of minutes away. We enjoyed that, however, more advice on where to park locally/nearby would be useful in your information pack, with a map, not just a parking website. The local roads around the cottage were jammed! However, I would come again!

An immaculate cosy cottage cleaned to a very high spec. Exceptionally well equipped and a great information pack was provided. Lovely welcome pack and fresh flowers were a really thoughtful touch. Very warm and comfortable. Excellent location for all that Whitstable has to offer and the train station. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

It is the 2nd time we have stayed, and it didn't disappoint on the 2nd visit. There are lovely touches like tea, biscuits and milk on arrival, not to mention the beautiful flowers. The owner is very approachable, and I feel that nothing would be too much bother. The only downside is the parking, but, having said that we found a space within 3-4 minutes walk every time we needed a space.

We were greeted with festive touches along with a bottle of wine and fresh flowers! The location is central to Whitstable High St and the beach. We enjoyed long walks each day. After a walk we prepared dinner in the well-kitted out kitchen and sat back to enjoy the fire and watch a movie. We will definitely visit again and recommend the cottage.

  • "Cleanliness was a big problem- bath room and shower covered with hair and wooden beams both upstairs and downstairs hanging with cobwebs."

We actually considered returning home after our first night. Parking is also a huge problem. It is unreasonable for the listing to state on street parking as this is simply never available. Would be more appropriate to detail nearby car parks. Noise from adjoining pub. For several nights during our stay, you could hear noise from the attached property. This was loud enough that you could hear conversations that were taking place and to make it worse, you could even hear people using the toilet! The only positive for us was the nearby shops and restaurants which were lovely, but still a 10-20 minute walk.

I am sorry to hear that, unlike the majority of guests, you found the cleanliness of the cottage to be a 'big problem'. Our housekeeper is typically extremely thorough, but I have brought these particular comments to her attention. Parking in the town is certainly difficult, especially in peak periods. However, on street parking is available outside the property and most guests succeed in finding a space (there are some very helpful parking apps available, e.g www.justpark.com). Guests are clearly warned that there is a small micropub to the rear of the cottage. The level of noise has not generally caused problems for guests, but any feedback about this is taken seriously and it will be discussed with the owner. We are always more than happy to provide guests with information and recommendations regarding a number of conveniently located shops and some good restaurants, all of which are less than ten minutes walk from the cottage. Great comfortable bed and bedding. Fresh flowers and welcome pack a nice touch. All windows face the courtyard/garden, so very peaceful and quiet. Due to the unpredictable weather a smart TV set would be a bonus for evening entertainment, as all books, DVDs etc. have been removed due to Covid regulations. Thank you for a lovely break.!

  • "As other reviewers have mentioned the car parking situation is awful."

In theory there is free parking in Swanfield Road but in practice it is almost impossible to find a space anywhere near and this can be quite stressful especially when unloading or loading. The listing should make this clear. Also, the nearby railway line is very noisy with trains hooting very loudly from early to late. I can't see any other reviewer mentioning this so perhaps it is a temporary problem associated with railway works. Apart from these things the cottage is delightful and we had a great stay.

We loved exploring along the coastline, gorgeous light, we walked miles! It was good to return to the warmth and comfort of Swanfield Cottage. The only downside was parking...a nightmare! We solved by booking a spot on a drive in Saddleton Rd (7 mins walk away) through Just park. Saved driving round after a day out to find a parking spot - I'd highly recommend it.

A very charismatic old cottage with modern fittings. We enjoyed sitting in the garden, which was more private than we expected. The cottage was very well placed, with shops and pubs only a few minutes walk away. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but we managed to find spaces near to the cottage. If you don't leave Whitstable, which is full of great shops, pubs and restaurants, you wouldn't need your car anyway. Would recommend.

The property

This quaint cottage is superbly located in the charming coastal town of Whitstable in Kent.

With its excellent central location yet secluded position, this could be just the hideaway for that romantic break.

Tucked away down a narrow alleyway off of Swanfield Road, the cottage's 'secret' garden leads to the front door, opening onto a hallway and well-equipped galley kitchen.

On through to the fashionably shabby-chic living/dining room- ideal for curling up on the sofa in front of the fire.

The ground floor also offers an immaculate, white shower room with a heated towel rail.

Take the turning staircase stairs to the open bedroom with an antique style double bed, plenty of clothes storage and blackout curtains for a good night's sleep.

When the sun comes out, make the most of your front garden, a relaxing spot to sit and enjoy a drink, a beer or a barbecue.

Whitstable offers everything you need for an interesting stay - waterfront walks, ancient pubs, quirky shops, excellent restaurants and the beautiful stony beach and harbour.

Amongst the many nearby places to explore, the historic cathedral city of Canterbury is just a short drive away as is Margate with its Turner Gallery and sandy beaches, the medieval buildings of the cinque port Sandwich, dramatic Dover Castle and much more.

About the location

WHITSTABLE

Herne Bay 5 miles; Canterbury 7 miles.

The lively town of Whitstable, which is known as the “Pearl of Kent”, dates back to before the Domesday Book. Its seaside location makes it ideal for watersports all year round, and its fishing heritage is reflected by the Oyster Festival, which takes place every July. The buzzing local museum/art gallery introduces around six new exhibitions each year, and has a fabulous coffee shop. Whitstable Castle dates back to the 1790’s, and hosts events all year round including a big May Day celebration with contributions from local musicians and artists. The town is home to a small, independent brewery, and any need for retail therapy will easily be satisfied by the range of both national stores and charming small, independent shops. Whitstable is also home to The Pearsons Arm, a gastropub owner by celebrity chef Richard Phillips and nearby in Seasalter is the Michelin star-awarded gastropub, The Sportsman which is also well worth a visit. The city of Canterbury, with its fine 6th century cathedral is just 7 miles away; also nearby is Herne Bay, from where on a clear day you can see as far as Southend and the Isle of Sheppey.
