The property

Red Stables is a fabulous character property with a contemporary finish, 8 miles from the historic city of Carlisle and ideally placed for exploring the stunning Lake District. Converted to the very highest standard, Red Stables is perfect for a family holiday or a break with friends, while the ground floor bedroom and wet room are ideal for anyone with reduced mobility. With impeccable green credentials thanks to the use of a biomass boiler to provide the underfloor heating throughout, and plenty of insulation to keep you cosy and snug on the chilliest day, Red Stables brings together modern eco-style, contemporary design and plenty of period charm.

The large open plan living/dining/kitchen area features the original beams and large French doors lead out to the private patio.

There are gorgeous views over the countryside which are also visible from the two bedrooms.

The ground floor bedroom is a zip link twin room, which can be converted to a double on request.

There's also a luxury wet room with shower, hand basin and WC.

Upstairs there's a spacious master bedroom with king-sized bed. Step outside through the French doors and there's a stylish patio composed of local stone flags which leads to the private hot tub.

Imagine enjoying the stunning views across the Lakeland fells while lounging in the jacuzzi at any time of the day and night - that's what makes Red Stables extra special as a holiday destination.

There's also ample off road parking and even a charging point for an electric car.

You're also free to roam the owner's orchard. If you can drag yourself away taking in the breathtaking views as you relax in the hot tub, Carlisle with its cathedral and racecourse is a short drive away and is the perfect jumping off spot for a day spent exploring Hadrian's Wall.

Nature lovers will enjoy seeing the rare red squirrels at Watchtree Nature Reserve which is just 2 miles away and there are pubs and shops a short drive away at Wigton.

The quiet lanes are ideal for cycling and there are plenty of country walks nearby. Red Stables is ideally situated for exploring the Northern Lakes like Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water and the vibrant Lakeland town of Keswick, while the beautiful Cumbrian coastline is just a short drive from Aikton.

You could even pop across the Scottish border to Gretna Green or spend a day out in the North Pennines, which are both an easy drive from Red Stables.

Whether you want to experience Britain's Roman past, hike or cycle through some of the UK's loveliest countryside or simply take a deep breath and relax, Red Stables is the perfect family holiday home at any time of the year.

About the location

Carlisle 12 miles; Keswick 20 miles.

A traditional Cumbrian market town with a charter granted in 1262, which still holds a market each Friday in the covered market hall, along with an open air car boot sale. Wigton is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, and also boasts a theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. Lord Melvyn Bragg was a native of Wigton, and used the town (called Thurston in some of his writings) and the surrounding area as the setting for his novels including ‘A Time to Dance’. Located 18 miles from Penrith it is a good base for the attractions of the North Lakes, the cathedral city of Carlisle, 12 miles away, Keswick, just north Derwentwater and close to Lake Bassenthwaite, and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. Hadrian’s Wall is within 25 miles, while the Scottish Borders, and Gretna Green, are within easy reach.
