  • "Cottage excellent."

Would have liked a little information re. local attractions and places to visit in the Welcome booklet

Views were fabulous though and quiet. Cottage was clean and had everything needed for a weeks stay. Mattress was abit soft but that's just personal preference. Washer dryer was very handy and heaters made cottage lovely and warm. Dogs felt very welcome. Lovely stay.

The only improvement to the accommodation would be the addition of WiFi, as 4G signal was not good.

  • "Dash cottage was a lovely little escape with glorious scenery."

We had good weather which is always a positive as you can make full use of the garden area which is kept in good order. Inside was ideal and just what we expect from a nice place in the country. If your used to 5 star hotels with the latest gadgets and internet etc then this wouldnt be for you but if you appreciate the little things and want to get away from it all then this is more than ideal. Local pub is nice and quaint and is about a 20 min walk realistically or a few mins in the car however single lanes surround the area understandably so carefull with the driving! When we next book for the lakes, this cottage or another of the few at this compound will be first choice.

  • "I want to say "exceeded expectations", but as this is not our first visit we knew what to expect."

A fabulous cottage in a great location. Stunning views, peaceful and remote and yet only a short walk to a good pub or a short drive to town. Cosy and comfortable it has everything we needed for a much needed break away. The setting is beautiful and the hosts very welcoming and friendly (Thank you for the decor and treats!). It is a perfect location for both the dogs and children, straight onto the fells with no use of the car. Fantastic again, Cheers.

  • "Beautiful cottage and amazing views of skiddaw."

The welcome pack was lovely, with cake, biscuits, milk and even biscuits and towel for the dog. It was the small details that made it homely, the cottage was decorated for Halloween inside and outside. There was peanuts to put on the windowsill so we could see the red squirrel that visited every morning, my granddaughter was so excited when it arrived every day. Wild bird feeders were outside windows so we could see the different birds feeding every day. The playground and games room was great for my granddaughter. This is our second visit and I’ve already booked for October 2020. If there is a negative, the only one was sometimes the hot water for the bath not being plentiful on a night, but there was a shower alternative.

Only 20-25 minute walk to Bassenthwaite village. Lovely surroundings. Enjoyed watching red squirrels on windowsill of cottage every morning, as well as the resident goat. Owners were welcoming and friendly. Only negatives are mattress very soft and no WiFi but this wouldn’t prevent us returning. Fantastic holiday.

Unfortunately the weather was dreadful so spent a lot of time in cottage the sofa / chairs were the worst I have sat on the beds were very comfortable it was lovely how they had made the garden look with all the bird feeders etc and squirrels feeders but the family who lived there never smiled at us said hello which made us feel uncomfortable the road leading up to the cottage was a challenge in it self we walk down to the village with our two dogs and it was a good walk which we enjoyed however the pub was one of the most unfriendly places we visited we left 4days early mostly due to the weather but would not go back we enjoyed the towns and the lakes and everyone was friendly it was very expensive for parking boat trip and food/drink not for us

  • "We had a very enjoyable week at Dash Cottage."

It was ideal for us as we like to take our dog with us. The cottage was clean, comfortable & very well equipped, right down to clingfilm. We were delighted to find a welcome pack on the table, which included free range eggs ,home made cakes & biscuits, & even dog treats all wrapped up with a ribbon. There was nothing to fault. The location was stunning ,by the slopes of Sciddaw, which looked spectacular after a covering of snow ,midweek. It was also an ideal location to explore the area around Keswick, which I can say must be one of the most beautiful places in England. One highlight of the holiday, was the little red squirrel ,who visited morning & evening to collect hazelnuts from a pot on the windowsil. Wonderful!!

  • "When we arrived the first thing we noticed was that each cottage had Halloween pumpkins outside, inside the theme continued with Halloween decorations which was brilliant for my granddaughter."

The lights had been put on for our arrival as it was dark on arrival. On the table there were eggs, cake, tea, coffee and even dog biscuits, milk was in the fridge, the thought that had gone into those extras was lovely. In the morning we noticed that all cottages had bird feeders which allowed us to watch the many different birds close up, and then we noticed that a conker was placed on the windowsill and was thrilled when a red squirrel came and sat at the window, which it did every morning. Everything we needed was there, it was spotlessly clean and we would definitely book again. Thankyou for a lovely holiday.

  • "My wife and I had a fabulous 3 day break at Dash Cottage with our two young grandchildren."

Although the weather could have been kinder, the children thoroughly enjoyed their time around Bassenthwaite. The cottage was warm and cosy, and the owner made our visit very welcoming - the kids loved the added touch of the Halloween atmosphere, and the cake. They also made use of the on-site games room - although some older children did leave it in a bit of mess! All in all an excellent half-term break, and we would hope to come again next year.

  • "We had a pleasant stay in this quiet and peaceful location."

The cottage was fine, if a little cold in the evenings at floor level on chilly days. After discovering the vast library of DVDs in the Games Room, we wished that had been made clearer on the literature. All in all, this is a lovely house and provides a good base from which to explore the western lakes area.

  • "This cottage is much better than described."

It is spacious, well maintained with very clean comfortable beds and furniture. It is in a superb location surrounded by fells and walks. Unique surplus car parking provision and excellent facilities for children and dogs. It does not have Wi fi which helps you to relax and have a real break. The main bedroom also had its own loo and washbasin which wasn't in the description. I hope to return. Although in close proximity with the other cottages there is no noise or nuisance of any kind - very quiet despite all being populated. I highly recommend.

About the location

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Lake District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
