  • "We really enjoyed our holiday."

The cottage was perfect for our needs. The owner was responsive to a issue that we had and it was rapidly resolved. The information in the welcome folder could do with updating, ie about the heating/ hot water system.

  • "Lovely cottage in a stunning location."

Plenty of parking. Lots of areas to sit out away from your neighbours. Welcomed by cake and milk in the fridge. Kitchen is well equipped and includes items such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs and laundry liquid. TV doesn't have all the channels you normally get on freeview but the games room is well stocked with DVDs, videos and books.

  • "The cottage is great, it was bigger than we expected and the views were stunning."

It has everything we needed, was very comfortable and nicely decorated and very dog friendly. We were met with a lovely cake and some biscuits for the dog and there was fresh milk in the fridge which is a really nice touch. The only comment would be that the cottage was not as clean as we would have liked in places, the shower is a bit mouldy, some of the cups, plates etc. were sticky and dirty when we went to use them, and there was lots of dust / cobwebs by the bed and bedside tables, but nothing too major. We have a lovely few days away, we would definitely stay here again.

  • "Lovely little cottage with everything you need for a stay in the lakes."

Owners left cake and cookies for our arrival and also dog treats for our two dogs which was a lovely touch. Had a problem with the shower and it was sorted within 10 minutes by the owner. Alittle bit rural to what we thought but the views were stunning.

  • "The cottage is tucked away down a quiet little lane and it is an absolute hidden gem."

Perfectly located at the foothills of Skiddaw and closr but not too close to Bassenthwaite. The cottage has everything you need for a short or long break (myself, my wife, 4 year old son and 2 dogs stayed for a week). On arrival we were kindly greeted with fresh milk, eggs and homemade biscuits and cakes. The cottage had all the cleaning materials you would need so no need to bring anything with you. The outside space is great with each cottage having their own sitting area and BBQ along with the shared swing set for kids and games room. During covid we felt extremely safe knowing the cottages were clean and anti bac gel was on hand. When you popped your head out the door all you could year were the noises of sheep, cows and the goat on the farm and the stream. If you're after somewhere peaceful and spacious that is in easy access to other places in the lakes as well as for walks then this is ideal!!!

  • "Property very clean and comfortable."

Lovely location. Would return. Enjoyed eggs and cake that was for us on arrival. TV needs renewing as sound is very poor and tumble dryer did not dry clothes. Great place to see wildlife. Everything there that we needed.

  • "Lovely location but that's where it ended."

Not in the least bit cosy or in keeping with the style of cottage . Decor cheap and like a teenagers bedroom. Downstairs bedroom smelt damp and foisty. Bathroom needs renovating. Not the kind of place you would really want to spend much time in. Have up until now been very happy with Stkes Cottages. First big disappointment.

One suggestion would be to segregate the upstairs bedroom with a curtain to give a little privacy from the downstairs living area. But otherwise great

  • "Beautifully located cottage which was true to description."

Set near Lake Bassenthwaite and accessible by car to all nearby areas for mountain walking and activities. Cottage facilities were good and well equipped - lovely cake and Easter goodies on arrival, tea / coffee and milk also provided. There was a games room which we used in the evening for pool and table tennis. Cottage was clean enough on arrival with towels and bedding - a little bit dusty up high. But really nice and would recommend.

  • "This cottage is situated in a perfect location."

It truly is beautiful. The cottage was just the right size for the four of us and our small dog. We enjoyed home cooked food and a very long walk! The personal touches of milk in the fridge, homemade cake and biscuits were warmly welcomed. We did have one cold shower before realising we needed to turn on the switch near the boiler... But the cottage was cosy and warm and all showers thereafter was piping hot.

The television is past it’s best and needs renewing. The oven is very difficult if not impossible to control. Apart from that the property is delightfully quirky and comfortable but we shall be looking for some where of a higher standard next time.

  • "We have stayed here before and it was just as lovely."

Only comment to note. The kitchen was very well equipped which is good as we cook a lot on holiday, but there was no empty cupboard in which to store dried foods and snacks. This would have been helpful. We managed by putting cups etc. altogether in one cupboard, therefore making space. Great welcome, loved the fresh eggs and cake. Thank you.

  • "The cottage and its location are brilliant and represented tremendous value for money."

It was really quiet and we saw red squirrels and greater spotted woodpeckers regularly. The cottage is very well equipped and the cake and homemade biscuits for us and our dog were really thoughtful touches. The games room with an extrnsive library of films is a great bonus. The decor needs some updating, particularly in the upstairs bedroom where the furniture is on the shabby side of chic. A comment book from the owners for hints and tips would be a good idea.

Clean, comfortable, had brilliant character and a lovely cosy feel. The views from within and outside the cottage were breathtaking. Brilliant play area for the kids and games room which kept them occupied when cooking dinner. The pub only one mile away was a brilliant find after a good walk taking in the amazing sights and fresh country air. Only 5.5 miles from shops so was in a perfect place. About the location

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), LAke District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
