  • "The cottage was perfect."

It was cosy warm and comfortable. The log burner was great. The kitchen had everything we needed for our weeks stay. The location was great with lots of walks from the door with a couple of pubs just at the bottom of the lane. We would definitely recommend this cottage and hopefully will return..

  • "A cosy and comfortable little cottage, which was perfect for our needs."

Everything was pretty much as described, the only discrepancy I noted was there didn't seem to be a Nespresso coffee machine, as implied by the guest information. There was a little mildew in the ceiling corner of the main bedroom and some cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling - maybe the cleaning could be a little more thorough? Not enough to really bother us overall, everything was cleaned to a good standard generally. The bathroom has quite a small bath, but was otherwise fantastic! An excellent, powerful and hot shower; good to see a shower attachment in the bath too - an often overlooked feature. Overall, an excellent cottage - I would definitely stay here again.

ThNk you for your feedback, it really helps us to know these details so we can make it better. We removed the Nespresso machine and put in a cafetiere after feedback from numerous guests. Hope to see you again Property Owner

Everything was comfortable and facilities good providing all you required. We didn’t give 5 stars due to the comfort factor of the lounge furniture which for us oldies hard to get used too. In general we enjoyed our stay at Kiln How. Thank you

  • "Lovely little cosy cottage."

We were slightly worried before we went because of the parking didnt seem big enough (however I can tell you that it's plenty big enough, even for our VW Transporter). A stones throw away for the Horse and Farrier (which has always been lovely, and we've been going to Threkeld for over 15 years). So many walks from the door (including a fabulous long walk to Skiddaw) and you are right under Blencathra. Village hall has fab cakes, sandwiches and drinks.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay! Hope to see you again! Property Owner

  • "We spent a glorious week here in June."

The cottage is very well equipped and idyllically situated, with a decent car parking space at the rear. Threlkeld is small but has some nice facilities including a cafe in the village hall and a nice dining pub. Walks are available from the doorstep including the old railway line into Keswick. Alternatively Keswick is a very short drive away whilst Penrith and the M6 are equally accessible in 15 minutes along the decent main road. Highly recommended.

  • "We had a good holiday with our dog."

Great position for walking and pub. Beautiful new bathroom and bedrooms with plenty of space. The downside was the loose shelf in the kitchen under where the toaster is, the boiler area and tiles need attention, the coffee machine was absent and the water pipes in the lounge need boxing in. These were minor things but did not spoil our holiday. Outside I would recommend donating the picnic table to the Threlkeld bonfire as it is rotting all over. One final thing if anyone visiting here with a dog to be very aware of a young blonde girl with a large bulldog cross dog which she walks off lead. It ran up and my cocker spaniel and attacked him. I managed to get it off him but hurt my knee which is still sore and bruised with several lacerations. This dog was out of control and so is the owner . She never apologised and we had a few crossed words. Be Very Aware!

Hi, I was so sad to hear about this incident with the dog and hope your knee is recovering. We had a new picnic table on order which is now set up. The shelf, I'm afraid needs to stay loose as the stopcock is behind it. The Nespresso machine was exchanged for a cafetiere as our guests requested it often and didn't use the coffee machine. Thank you for your feedback, it does help us. Property Owner

  • "We had a good few days at Kiln Howe the weather wasn't too bad for The Lakes."

The bathroom and bedroom were really nice and warm but the downstairs lounge was a little cold in the evening. We lit the fire each night with the wood and kindling which we bought locally but found that the handle on the fire could have done with an insulated glove as it was extremely hot. Also there was a power cut for 5 hours ( we are used to them living rural ) but there wasn't any back up lighting e,g an LED lantern etc this would have been great. These are just a few suggestions which we feel could be helpful. Many thanks

Comfort of cottage zero bathroom and kitchen ok but dreadfully uncomfortable bed sofa and chairs not fit for purpose-no comfort in lounge TV only through wi-fi so no normal programmes cottage needs a thorough clean inside and out - we had to clean front entrance toaster tired and needs replacing

I am so sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your time in our cottage. Our personal number is in the info pack and we would have been happy to come and give the cottage another clean if it was not to your standards. Our neighbour told us that you left because your arthritis is bad and you couldn't get comfortable. Our mattresses are sprung with a memory foam topper and may not suit some conditions and the toaster is a year old and regularly checked. Property Owner

Owners very helpful - we needed kitchen scales and they dropped some in for us the next day. Would have been good to know there’s no DVD player. Dog walks from the doorstep. The memory foam mattress did not suit my back well at all so unfortunately a week of unsettled nights but that’s just me, everyone is different. The log burner was a delight in the evenings but we were spending about £7 a day on log burner fuel so something to bear in mind. Altogether though we had an amazing week so thank you!

The property has two good bedrooms and the larger room which we used had a very comfortable bed and was spacious and warm. The bathroom was very modern and had a fantastic shower and bath. We unfortunately found stale food in plastic boxes in the cupboards which we assumed had been left by the previous guests and the freezer part of the fridge needed defrosting. A few little added touches needed just to make it a bit more special.

Hi, thank you for letting us know. I have defrosted the freezer box and take special care to check for surprise left overs! Property Owner

As we had hot weather the duvet was too hot, but a sheet would have been just right over us. The fitted sheet was a winter weight and could have been thinner for summer. No egg cups! Cutlery rather limited, but good kitchen knives and cooking pots. Plenty of mugs and crockery and glasses. It was lovely having the picnic bench just outside by the stream and a number of people came past us on the public footpath and had a brief chat.

About the location

THRELKELD

Keswick 3.8 miles; Watermillock 11.9 miles; Ambleside 16.3 miles.

The charming village of Threlkeld is just to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountain. Threlkeld's history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and there are two pubs that first opened their doors in 1688.
Though only a few miles outside Keswick, the village is tranquil and unspoilt with great views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.
