  • "An excellent place spoilt by the conversion."

Creaky floorboards from the flat above made sleep impossible especially when four men were having a boozy party until 2.00am. There seemed to be no check on the number of sleepers in an apartment.

  • "A nice remote accommodation and a great base for exploring the surrounding areas."

Very clean and well equipped studio type flat. All the better with a great bistro right next door where we ate on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent as were the owner and staff.. There is also a shop on site. We had half a dozen cute chickens on site as extra neighbours. There’s a VERY local pub , literally a few metres away (very handy). The only downside was the noise from the flat above when someone arrived on our last night. It wasn’t their fault...basically just walking around, but OMG.....those floorboards !!! Need to find a way to resolve that or more will complain I’m sure. All in all, we enjoyed our 4 night stay and the perfect weather was an added bonus.

  • "Well, first of all we felt that the meet and greet was very poor, felt uncomfortable after it."

A random man showed us to the accommodation, basically said there u go, next door if u need us. no introduce, nothing explained how the facilities worked. Ie wifi password, were rubbish bins were located. Had to ring mobile number for password, lovely lady spoke to me, very helpful. Wifi signal extremely poor Secondly we were on ground floor, floorboards above very noisy, woke up at 6am each morning to the noise of floor boards. Thirdly, bed extremely comfortable, quilt way to thick and no other alternative. Note kitchen facilities and cleanliness were excellent and both owners were pleasant and helpful . Would we stay here again? No

  • "Great renovated apartments, very clean and tidy and sympathetically styled."

Made for a clean, pleasant stay. Next to the apartments was a bistro/bar run by the apartment complex owners, so if you didn’t want to cook, you have options on your doorstep! If visiting the area again, would definitely stay there again.

About the location

Wigton 10 miles; Carlisle 13 miles.

The village of Bowness-on-Solway lies within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the west of the city of Carlisle. The village has a pub and a tea room and Hadrian’s Wall stretches from the village to Wallsend near Newcastle for some 73 miles, with the walk being defined as a ‘National Trail’. The surrounding area is rich in bird life visiting the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds, and peat mosses, and there are many viewpoints and lay-bys, perfect for spotting the waders: oystercatchers, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwit, redshank, and turnstone. In 1869 a rail line, the Solway Junction Railway, was opened between Bowness and Annan in Scotland, connecting to the Maryport and Carlisle railway. The 1 mile and 176 yard long iron girder viaduct across the water was damaged by an ice build-up in 1875, and again in 1881. It was repaired and continued as a passenger train until 1914 when it became a freight train until 1921, before finally being demolished in 1934. Nearby, the market town of Wigton and the city of Carlisle are popular centres for shopping, pubs and restaurants. Wigton also has a weekly market taking place every Friday and also boasts a theatre. The Victorian seaside resort of Silloth is 16 miles away, whilst Keswick and the heart of the Lake District are reached in 40 minutes' by car. A wonderful base for exploring Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
