  • "Beautiful little cottage in a beautiful part of the world."

Ideally located 5min from the local pub and shop. Good walk to Keswick and lake Derwent. The add gave the impression there was a courtyard withthecottage, which would have been perfect as we had dogs, but it was not secure to let them in and was situated awayfromtheproperty. However, with the stunning scenery all around, the early morning walks were a pleasure.

  • "I think this property was over priced for what we got."

The living space was too small. The table was not big enough to eat at comfortably... There were only 3 of us. Definitely not big enough for 4. No garden to sit out. No space to hang jackets or dry clothes in the cottage. There were not enough cooking utensils or equip for self catering... Poorly equipped.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Sykes cottage."

There were just a couple of minor things. No hair-dryer. Some obvious cob webs. Hoover didn't work properly (lost more than it retained). Quite a draught from the door and windows. These were only minor things easily put right. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would use them again.

  • "Just found the parking a little bit tight as our allocated space was next to a wall and the vehicle for No 3 didn't leave much room."

We found the meals at the Royal Oak, tasty and generous, and the staff very friendly and obliging. Necessary to book as very popular.

  • "This is a cosy, warm property with plenty of hot water available due to a combi boiler."

We greatly enjoyed our stay here. In answer to previous comments from people, there is no leak in the twin room any more, although it does have a damp problem on one wall in that room. Our kids didn't have any issues with the mattresses. There is one allocated parking space at the property so if you've only brought one car that won't be an issue.

  • "Looks good even though small."

Parking is an issue and there is no garden if you have a dog. Our issue was a poor mattress in the twin bedroom and a leak in the roof for that same bedroom. More importantly the owner/manager didn’t really want to do anything about it and even though we highlighted these issue. I’m sure with their attitude this cottage is re-rented without being repaired. They wouldn’t answer our calls but text instead. More importantly the hot water system was intermittent with the shower giving cold showers (very cold) 4 out of 6 times. Not a home from home at all. They did offer our money back if we left but it’s was only a refund on the nights we wouldn’t be there, not compensation for being a wake all night and not having hot water etc. I would not recommend this property and it spoilt our holiday.
