  • "The Farmhouse is a brilliant base for exploring the area."

Very clean, well stocked and just lovely will definitely book again

  • "We enjoyed our stay here, the house is full of character and has all the comforts."

I particularly enjoyed cooking with an Aga again, even the same colour as the one I had!

  • "We love staying here as it fits our mobility needs, is spacious and close to our family who live in Workington and Threkeld."

Unfortunately it’s getting a little tired in places now though. The crockery is dwindling- presumably because others have broken things. Please replace mugs with new white ones - only 6 unmatched ones left and several of those are stained. Similarly with the small/medium plates. Just everything was brilliant two years back! Also the quilt covers/bedding needs updating. Pretty sure we had same sets and now they are definitely over washed and worn! Other than that we had a great time meeting up with family. Love the location and pubs for eating- very busy so booking was needed.

  • "We had a great week in Braithwaite."

The property was very spacious and ideal for our family. We went on holiday with two friends, and their dog. Never been on holiday together before but the property had a lot of space and helped everyone feel relaxed. Great to be able to tick off a few Wainwrights straight from the door and many more within a 10 min drive of the property. (Also easy to ride up to Whinlatter, if mountain biking is your thing) Kitchen was as well equipped as described, and we got to grips with the Aga. (For future guests, it might be useful to do a "dummy's guide" - which oven / hob is hotter for example). The parking was pretty tight but did not detract from the holiday. All in all, would recommend.

  • "We had an enjoyable stay and the cottage was very comfortable."

Only complaint was the main shower did not work very well, but as there were two others it didn't affect our stay.

  • "We had a wonderful time in the Farmhouse In Braithwaite."

Excellent communication with Sykes Cottages during the whole booking process. Beautiful, quiet surroundings with everything we needed. Clean house with lots of space, interesting features and the village shop close by. Hope to return for more lovely walks close by.

  • "This was our second visit and we were disappointed."

We had a few problems during our stay. The electrics tripped in the kitchen late at night which caused issues as our 4 month old grandchild required late night feed. It was resolved quickly next day by owner as trip switch was in the next door cottage. The kitchen bin was broken which we reported, not resolved. We had to put a heavy book on it to keep lid closed. The shower in our room leaked water through kitchen ceiling (which could be why lights tripped). We reported it. Not resolved and we had to use shower in daughter's room to avoid further damage for the rest of our stay. The cottage was also not very clean compared to previous year. The oven is a health hazard as the vents were very dusty and there are no instructions on how to use it. Also the vacuum had a terrible smell when we tried using it. It's such a shame as it's in a perfect location.

  • "Excellent overall, just a couple of niggles - the extra kingsize mattress not very comfortable and there was a take away menu card in the info pack which sounded really good but the hotel in question does not appear to exist (no address and phone number didn't work."

Asked a couple of locals who said they had never heard of it) - bit of a disappointment.

It was clean and comfortable, spacious for us all to relax. Good location for access to Keswick and local pubs in village. Low ceiling beams which was a hazard for the taller ones!

Had a great break although we’d stay longer than 2 nights next time, excellent location for walking and good facilities with a shop nearby and 2 good pubs - we will be back

  • "The cottage itself is absolutely amazing, very cosy and warm with lovely views."

The kitchen with the AGA was where we spent many mornings/early evenings cooking breakfast etc. Our dog loved it due to its heat. The rolled bath was a must after a long days walking. Everything, other than pint glasses, had been catered for. It was just perfect.

The Whinlatter Visitors Centre is close by and is great for children, with a tea room hosting a balcony for viewing red squirrels and woodland birds, an outdoor play area, mountain bike trail and several paths to explore around the forest. There is also miniature golf, excellent parks, a climbing wall, and opportunities for fishing and mountain biking, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the Borrowdale Valley is not to be missed or is the Castlerigg Stone Corcle, thought to be 5000 years old. With so much to see and do in the surrounding area, bring your loved ones along to share a memorable break in Cumbria.
