  • "Derwent cottage was a real home from home, the owners had decorated and furnished it lovely, all the little extras had been thought of such as shampoo and hand wash, beautiful little welcome pack."

We were very comfortable and warm for the week. The only thing tht we thought needs looking at is the bath, you can't run a good hot bath it only runs luke warm which isn't no good after a day on fells! Flip side the downstairs shower was to die for!

Thank You Sophie. We're pleased you had a good stay and appreciate your feedback. We'll try to sort the bath water and keep the shower flowing! Property Owner

  • "The cottage was beautiful, tastefully decorated and immaculately clean."

It was perfect for our family get away - we loved the log burner and the location was perfect for Keswick town centre but still in a quiet street. The rooms were a lovely size and the showers great. The only small request is it would have been great to be provided with a pint of fresh milk on arrival rather than sachets and providing essentials like kitchen foil, cling film and sandwich bags would have been useful. Thanks for a lovely stay - we will be hopefully be back

  • "The beds are really, uncomfortably firm."

I would not return for this reason alone. All other aspects of the house are spot on. The overall cleanliness would benefit from attention e.g. very dusty light fittings, architrave, courtyard in need of a jet wash.

Dear Robert, We're sorry you thought the beds uncomfortable. We recognise the beds are firm but have not found them uncomfortable and know they are of a high quality. We're glad you were pleased with everything else in the house and trust hope you had a good stay. We'll be discussing your comments about dusty items with the cleaners as it appears their usual high standards may have dropped slightly. We're confident improvements will follow. The courtyard will be jet-washed as part of the regular maintenance cycle which is in place to keep Derwent Cottage in tip-top condition for our guests. Property Owner

The house has everything you could possible need. Close to the village and ideal location to access amazing walks and hikes. The outdoor yard/garden is very safe for dogs which is reassuring.

The rooms are really comfortable and the house lends itself to a 4 or 5 person holiday. The kitchen offers great facilities along with the two bathrooms and outdoor space.

Thanks Katie, it’s always good to get feedback. Your scores are a bit lower than we have been getting but we are pleased you would thoroughly recommend Derwent Cottage and from your comments it looks like you enjoyed your stay and had everything you needed. Property Owner

The property would benefit from a few more general utensils (particularly tea spoons), a frying pan and some weighing scales for those holiday makers who cook when on holiday!

Hi Alison, thanks for your suggestions. The cottage now has some digital scales, another frying pan and more teaspoons! We’re glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

The house was clean and very accommodating. The beds are a little on the hard side but other than that it’s a very nice cottage.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday at Derwent Cottage."

The property is in a great location and very handy for Fitz Park and the town centre. Parking could be busy but we always managed to get a space on the same street or one nearby. The house itself is well equipped, modern and clean. Tea, coffee, UHT milk and biscuits were provided along basic cleaning supplies for the kitchen/dishwasher. The storage in the garden and outdoor hose were great for the bikes. Please note the staircase up to the second floor bedrooms is narrow and there is no toilet on that level - did not cause an issue for us. The main bathroom is huge and lovely shampoo, conditioner and body wash were provided. We would happily stay here again.

Thanks very much for the feedback, it’s much appreciated . We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and liked the cottage and hope you will visit again Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at this excellent property which is perfectly situated for our needs."

The only criticism being that on our arrival we could not access the keys from the key safe with the key code provided. On contacting the key holder Kim she provided us with the correct key code and seemed surprised that we had not been informed by Sykes as they had had the same problem the week before.

We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and apologise for the confusion over the key code which has now been sorted Property Owner

  • "Property is extremely well situated, spacious and well appointed."

However on arrival there were obvious issues in relation to the cleanliness of the property. 1. Within the oven there were left over cooked tacos on a baking tray. 2. Foodstuffs leftover in the cutlery basket. 3. Dirty unwashed mugs left in the dishwasher. 4. Touchscreen functions on the cooker / grill were covered in fingerprints and clearly hadn't been wiped down / cleaned. 5. There was a lot of dog hair especially on the couches. (Appreciate this is a dog friendly property however have stayed in multiple dog friendly properties without this issue) Two days into our stay the washing machine also broke down. We were advised two days later that the machine was broken and wouldn't be repaired / replaced while we were there. One of these issues alone I would have likely overlooked however all together made for a less than ideal break. I did contact the property management on arrival and explained the issues around the cleanliness of the property to which they apologised and advised they could sent out another cleaning team the following day. We arrived in the evening so this wasn't really any use as we had to prepare food and sorted the cleaning ourselves. Leftover food in the oven is just totally unacceptable. I realise these issues are largely out of control of the owners and it's the cleaning company contracted that have let them down so this is not a personal attack on the owners or the property itself. I'm just annoyed given the price we paid. We have stayed in Keswick is similarly priced properties and also cheaper properties and never encountered cleanliness issues. I have also tried containing Sykes directly to report these issues, promises of callbacks have been made and so far nothing. Not only would I not stay at this property again I will not be using Sykes again.

It is clear the cleaning was not upto the usual standard on this occasion and we sincerely apologise for that. Obviously the cooker and oven have been ‘missed’ in the clean and the residual dog hair has not been cleaned thoroughly enough. We have discussed this episode at length with the management company and obtained reassurances that this is a ‘one off’ incident and remedial action has been taken. The management company are on hand to deal with any incidents which arise. In this they responded positively and would willingly have sent another cleaning team to remedy the situation but the offer was declined. The failure of the washing machine could not have been foreseen and unfortunately it was not possible to arrange a replacement in the short time frame. Again, we apologise for the inconvenience caused to the guest. A new machine has since been fitted. Derwent Cottage is maintained to a high standard as evidenced by previous reviews. We regret the disappointing experience of this guest and will strive to ensure there is no repetition. Property Owner

  • "Excellent holiday accommodation, homely with modern facilities and plenty of kitchen equipment."

Minus points are: rear gate is heavy and scraping the ground making it very difficult to open (to put out rubbish) and upstairs shower door slides out of track if not careful. Other than these minor points a great place to stay

  • "Quite simply the best cottage we have stayed in in the 10 years we have been coming for our summer holidays to the Keswick convention."

Beautifully comfortable beds, a kitchen I would like to take home with me, lovely living spaces and 2 beautiful bathrooms. And if nice weather a lovely courtyard garden with seating. Great communication from Kim who manages the property. We would love to stay here again, but would prefer a Saturday to Saturday let.

  • "We had a lovely stay here at the start of December."

The cottage is well placed being a 5 minute walk into Keswick. The house was clean and tidy with great facilities. The only down side was that a previous party had sadly damaged the wood burning fire so we weren't able to use it as there was no glass which was a shame. However, the rest of our stay was great. We would definitely be back as there is plenty to do around Keswick.
