  • "Heron Cottage was a great cottage to escape the hustle and bustle."

The cottage is clean, cosy and really well equiped. The view from the cottage windows are gorgeous. We enjoyed every minute and would go back in a flash.

  • "The advertisement stated that there was a local pub."

This is incorrect as the said pub ceased trading in February 2020 with the next nearest pub in Annan. Correct information regrading local amenities is vital to people.

  • "Wonderful stay in heron cottage."

The cottage itself is in an absolutely gorgeous spot, so peaceful and the river directly across the road makes it. It is a really comfortable cottage with everything you could possibly need. The walks from the door are amazing. The only downside is the lack of places nearby to eat in the evening, especially with a dog. We would certainly return, hopefully after the pandemic, things may pick up. Fabulous place, thank you.

  • "Heron cottage was very cosy, and as we were there In January, we welcomed the fact that it was very warm too."

The location was very good. It overlooked a beautiful river, and we did indeed frequently see the heron. It was peaceful and quiet with a lovely riverside walk. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed, although we never did find the hairdryer! We would recommend this cottage for a relaxing breakaway. However, it does seem to be very expensive during the summer months.

The cottage was well equipped and generally very comfortable. The only problem I encountered was the squeaky base on the double bed. But, this didn’t seem to bother my husband. Would we return? Yes but I would choose to sleep in the other bedroom. Problem solved!

  • "The cottage was in a lovely position, overlooking the river."

I would, however, point out that the shower over the bath didn’t work and that there was a significant leak into one of the kitchen cupboards. The caretakers must know of this as there was an ice cream tub to collect the water, which overflowed during our stay. My husband found the bed uncomfortable, there was a lot of noise from the springs. These are not big issues, but they should be addressed.

6 of the 7 heaters did not work, reported it first day not repaired before we left early on the Friday it went uncomfortabley cold in the evenings, the vacuum cleaner didn't work which was a problem when you have two dogs, the back garden could do with a tidy especially the Brocken decking boards

  • "I would love to give this cottage 10/10 because of the general features but there were one or two small issues especially in the kitchen."

Also the Wi-Fi was set up with security controls which limited my use of the Internet. I have left the owner a note of these. While I was there, however, there was a major power cut which lasted from 1.30 pm on Wednesday until the early hours of Thursday morning. Although this was not the fault of the owner it would have been helpful if I could have found candles and the torch battery was almost done The neighbours were very helpful but perhaps the owner could consider providing candles and replacing the torch batteries more regularly. If these things are attended to I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage. The weather was not kind during my week at the cottage but it is in a lovely location and my wee dog was very happy there.

The cottage was beautiful with every amenity catered for. It was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The views of the river were glorious, especially when the herons were there, of which there were many. The walks were brilliant for our two dogs, with only 3 miles into Annan shops. The locals too were very friendly. We were sad to leave and would highly recommend this gorgeous property, especially if you have dogs. We will definitely book again and return to this lovely area. About the location

ANNAN

Dumfries 15.7 miles; Carlisle 20 miles

The town of Annan, a former harbour, lies on the banks of the River Annan, in East Dumfries and Galloway, and is steeped in history, with the area once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. Each year, the town celebrates the Riding of the Marches, in honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, which involves parades, massed pipe bands and competitions. The area around Annan has many small towns, picture postcard villages and hamlets, plus beautiful unspoilt coastline, with sandy beaches and hidden coves. Visit nearby Caerlaverock Castle, one of Scotland's finest ruined castles or Annandale Distillery. Take a day trip and marvel at the majestic architecture of the grand abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh or visit the northern Lake District and the historic Hadrian’s Wall.
