    Baby only ran about for 5 minutes socks were black.All chairs in kitchen stained.2slice toaster control button missing.Henry vacuum needs new filter and bag smelt like a wet dog when we tryed to use.All cushions on chairs when lifted needed cleaning.Pool table could do with a refurb.Packet of paracetamol and cough sweets found in bedroom dresser.All in all very dissapointing.Shame as the property was superb

    Thank you for taking the time to make a review. I am sorry to hear of your disappointment following your stay with us. I have ensured that the relevant team that prepares Hetland for our guest arrivals has received your feedback. However, if you had told us about the issues at the time we could've rectified them straight away. I am sorry about the toaster it was on my to-do list to replace, this has been done now for next season. The pool table is about thirty years old, however, it has recently been recovered/refurbished so I am not sure what else needs to be done to it. The kitchen chairs were looking a bit worse for wear, they have since had the fabric deep cleaned. I have added the vacuum cleaner to the checklist to check that the filter is clean. As Hetland is a big house that sleeps eight, we have now decided for next season to allow our guests to arrive at 4 pm which will help ensure that nothing gets missed. Property Owner

  • "A honest review Lovely house in it's own grounds, we enjoyed out stay there with great weather for the week."

    There was a few minor distractions which we were not anticipating 1. Dino Land through the fence should be noted before booking but absolutely perfect for families with kids. 2. Sorry to the owner David, but 2 of the single beds had a lot of hair on them and behind the beds there was a lot of dust on skirting and sweet wrappers. 3. Towel radiators need bleeding. 4. Only double beds coming from king size to double was quite difficult for us but we managed. 5. Kitchen short on a few things (masher, bin bags, hand towel 6. stairs could be difficult for the elderly (but we expected that) 7. TV on wall above fireplace (3 older people with bad necks is not good) On the plus side like i say we still enjoyed it. It's massive, hide and seek was a breeze (3 adults over 55). Pool table for me and the wife, 4 toilets 3 showers and a bath. Location. Not much going on in the immediate vicinity which is what we wanted apart from Dino Land but something we did enjoy was a 1 hour trip to Hermitage Castle which was really impressive in the glorious sun. Would i go to Hetland again. Yes!! when kids are at school and hopefully cleaner bedrooms and behind sofas. We may have spoilt ourselves a few weeks earlier with a cottage in Melrose which was pristine for cleanliness but only half the size of Hetland and a lot less garden. David it's a wonderful house. Make it perfect.

    Thank you for taking the time to make a review. I am sorry to hear of the minor distractions following your stay with us. The towel radiators are on only when the central heating is on, so unfortunately that hasn’t been noticed through the summer, but it will get looked at now. I will ask Sykes to change the wording of the location of the Dino Park. As Hetland is a big house that sleeps eight we have now decided for next season to allow our guests to arrive at 4 pm which will help ensure that nothing gets missed. We hope to see you again soon albeit out of school holidays. Property Owner

  • "A very nice, well equipped house."

    The sofas and beds were comfortable, plenty of room for the 8 of us and the dinning table could seat us all. The kettle, if full, will splurt the hot water over the top of the cups or tea pot if poured too soon, but if you wait a few seconds for the bubbling to subside, it pours fine. The American style fridge freezer is very capacious which is a welcome change in rentals. The Heltand Hall hotel is only a little walk away and the food was very good. Despite the high quality of the food and the nice setting, it didn't break the bank, nor did we feel we should have dressed up. On departure day, it was very handy to be able to walk to the garden centre next door for a cooked breakfast, leaving the kitchen clean.

Good size upstairs for all 6 adults (3 couples) to spread out and have a bathroom each. Indoor wood stove was cosy. Owner stayed intouch and checked if we had everything we needed etc, which was nice.

  • "Spacious property, kitchen well equipped with cutlery & crockery etc however some basics missing, cleaning products, bin bags also air fresheners & bleach in toilets."

    Also to have a few cupboard essentials would be make a massive difference i.e. salt, pepper, herbs & spices? We found the mattresses uncomfortable but bedding & towels lovely. It's a good spot for exploring, Powfoot beach, Boathouse in Glencaple, Sandyhills beach and Deer Park a must. Thai Orchid in Dalton and Farmers Inn in Clarencefield lovely pub with home cooked delicious meals and Hetland Hotel a stroll up the road. Annan town 7 miles Would suggest an information pack to let visitors know all places to visit including local pubs and restaurants.

    And Nextdoor to Dino land The beds and pillows and duvets were poor as was size of towels. No cleaning facilities ie mop . 2 small shabby t towels for 8 for 1 week! Things should have been made clearer as to location as final address was not given until final payment made.

  • "My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Hetland."

    It is a beautiful house and has generous sized gardens, ideal for dogs. My kids loved playing pool in the games room. For a family of seven the kitchen and dining area offered more than enough space for big family meals. With the garden centre just next door offered an easy solution for breakfast when you just don’t want to cook. Hetland hotel so near if you want a special family meal great food. All short walks if you have had a little to much wine but it is great turn of events when your kids carry you home instead of you carrying sleeping children back to bed

    Location not great if you don’t want to use your car, however the Hetland hotel just a 10min walk at most along the road was great for an evening meal. The property was well equipped, spacious, only thing missing from the kitchen was some egg cups( but not a criticism) and would have been useful to have some cleaning products, however the latter may be due to COVID ( not sure) overall fabulous property, well maintained and very comfortable.

    Spent a fabulous week with our 2 grown up sons and their partners and our 2 dogs, plenty of room for us all and a fully enclosed garden with seating area. Visited wondeful places all under an hours drive away, we loved Galloway Forest, lots to see there, we watched the sunset at Southerness lighthouse and had daytime walks along beaches as well as numerous other walks. About the location

DUMFRIES

Castle Douglas 18 miles; Gretna 30 miles; Kirkcudbright 40 miles; Lake District National Park 50 miles;

Known as the Queen of the South, Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh and is the largest town in south west Scotland. It lies close to the mouth of the River Nith as it opens into the Solway Firth. Its origins are mysterious and are believed to involve at various times the ancient Romans, St Ninian and there is evidence of King Arthur having fought battles in the area. It is also held that Malcolm Canmore and William the Conqueror met here in the 11th century and William Wallace pursued the English through the surrounding Nith valley 200 years later. Robert the Bruce killed his rival John Comyn in the Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the town for a few days in the mid 18th century and the poet Robert Burns moved to Dumfries in 1791 and staying until his death five years later. Today Dumfries is a bustling popular town with much to offer the visitor. Its location makes it ideal for exploring the coastline with its sandy beaches and rocky inlets to the Galloway Hills and Ae forest offering superb walking and cycling on the famous 7 stanes trails. Visit stunning Caerlaverock Castle and Nature Reserve or indulge in some high octane excitement with the Scottish Rally based in Dumfries each summer.
