Bringing in the new year in such a lovely cottage in a great location is something we’ll fondly remember. The facilities are great and little touches like the fire set to light on arrival, finish the welcome off. Sue was really helpful both pre and post stay. The only one who had anything to grumble about was the dog as we made sure she wasn’t on the furniture. Thanks for the memorable weekend.

  • "We had a comfortable short break at Beck House."

It was quiet, which is what we wanted. The sitting room was spacious and inviting, with comfortable seating and a good internet connection. The kitchen was kitted out very well. It was good to be able to let our dog run and play ball in a safe space in the field behind the house. Best of all, for me, was the log-burning stove - what a wonderful comfort on a December day.

All the walks were nicely laid out to see. The cottage is in a good location for many walks providing you don’t mind a short drive. The only problem we had was we couldn’t stay for longer, the cottage holiday was a treat but an expensive treat so it’s highly unlikely we will be back, but we enjoyed our very short stay.

  • "Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings."

Generous welcome pack and although we didn't eat in, the kitchen was well stocked. Good selection of books for all ages and Netflix too! Instructions and info on the area was detailed and the little garden at the back was a nice place for morning breakfast with the dogs. Local pub had huge portions but short opening hours. Parking on the drive may be tight for a larger SUV type but my Mini had no problems. Loads of on road space anyway. And a delightful local next door neighbour who introduced his dog to ours. We easily got to Buttermere on one day and Bassenthwaite the next and had an easy trip into Cockermouth for shopping. All in all a beautifully calming place to stay

  • "Spent another very enjoyable week at Beck House."

The cottage was very clean and Sue, the landlady, really goes the extra mile to make her guests welcome and comfortable. Everything you need is provided in this cottage from a good supply of logs and kindling to the generous welcome pack. We stayed as a couple with our Border Collie and got out to the Northern and Buttermere Fells and Cumbrian coastline with ease. The garden is very small but this didn't bother us as we were out everyday but if you are looking for a garden to sit out in or for your dog to roam then you might find this restrictive. Access to Cockermouth is easy for picking up supplies. The cottage is ideally suited for access to Northern and North Western Fells and the West and North West coastline. There is parking for one car which would be a bit tight for a large car but plenty of parking on the quiet road within fifty metres so this shouldn't be a problem. We've stayed at many other cottages over a few years now and would be happy to recommend Beck House. The care and attention to detail that Sue puts into this cottage to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable is second to none and was greatly appreciated by us.Thank you Sue for giving us a really great week at Beck House and hopefully we'll be back at some time in the future. The owner Sue kindly contacted us prior to arrival and we had a lovely and detailed discussion about the cottage, where to park, dietary requirements and general advice on the surrounding area and things to do. Sue provided a wonderful hamper comprising amongst other things of teas, coffees, milk, bread, beers and lollies etc - which was a real nice touch. The cottage was warm and cosy, kindling and logs were provided for the wood burner. The lounge/dining room and bedrooms were really comfortable. There was plenty of hot water to bath the kids after a day's mountain biking etc. We really liked the stock of books and board games and having Netflix was a bonus too for watching a good film on the sofa at the end of a hard day. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery, utensils and white goods, the washing machine had a useful large capacity. We were able to store our mountain bikes, inflatable canoes and additional gear in the garage which was really useful. The neighbours were really friendly too. We had a fantastic stay and were sad to leave. We would definitely come back and stay again please.

  • "Just back from a weeks stay at Beck Cottage commencing 29th April 2022."

Upon arrival we were met by the landlady,Sue, who was very welcoming and explained the workings of the cottage to us. This is a very well equipped cottage and Sue had left us a very generous "welcome pack" which was appreciated. We took our Border Collie and the cottage has ample water/feeding stations and clearly a dog friendly cottage. We very much appreciated that the landlords had provided kindling/firewood for our use and we made good use of the wood burner fire in the lounge. The cottage has electric storage heaters which aren't the best way to provide heat so the ample provision of firewood for the log burner more than made up for the slight lack of control over the heating. We particularly booked this cottage location to give us easy access to the North West Lakeland fells and we were not disappointed in this respect with easy access to Lorton/Buttermere/ Loweswater areas with the added bonus of easy access to Cockermouth for supplies etc.The village is quite charming and pretty and very rural with no shop although there is a pub in walking distance. The garden at this property is very small and not ideally located from the door of the cottage or in it's surround. In our case this didn't bother us as we were out each day walking the fells and not using the garden. The single parking space could be a little issue with a large car or if not parked correctly. Clearly the care and attention of the landlords comes over making it a lovely cottage for a holiday break and we'd like to thank Sue for her friendliness and welcome. We enjoyed our stay.

  • "Lovely warm greeting from Sue the owner who even lit the stove before we arrived and then showed us around."

Very cosy and comfortable cottage and both dog and child friendly. The owners seem to have put lots of thought into the extras that you might need or have forgotten. For example theres a basket of goodies and essentials for when you arrive and lots of food items in the cupboards. There are lots of thoughtful touches such as dog bowls, barbecue and cushions for the garden seats, bubble bath and a large supply of logs for the wood burner. The kids enjoyed having a television in their room which meant it was more peaceful downstairs for the adults. The television downstairs already has Netflix and Now TV, and the one upstairs an Amazon Firestick so lots of choice. Beds very comfortable. Plenty of maps for walks in the Lakes, the cottage is ideal for areas such as Cokermouth, Crummock Water, Derwentwater, Loweswater. We went walking and paddle boarding. Good choice of books in the living room for adults and children. The garage is handy for storing items such as a paddle board and wetsuits. The field beyond the garden is very handy for dog owners and there are several walks from the door. I’d highly recommend Beck House and it was also reasonably priced.

From toothbrushes to vacuum flasks including a superb "starter" hamper ( which could last for days!) a bowl of fruit, a vase of flowers and logs for the fire. The wood burner is new and warms the place pronto. From our perspective, the only downside was the lack of walks from the door and the garden was not enclosed so the dog needed company when spending a penny!

Hi Bob, In response to your helpful feedback we have now enclosed and gated the rear garden. About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
