“Nice base to explore the north west lakes”

The property

This fabulous eco-friendly barn conversion nestles in the Vale of Lorton, making it ideal for an exploration of the Western Lakes and the coast.

Beckside is nestled in the heart of nature yet within distance of all amenities at Lorton.

Located at Southwaite Green, a development of four high quality holiday properties, this stunning character property is built from local stone and finished with materials like oak and slate plus eco-friendly paints.

As you enter through the front door, you step into a fabulous open plan living area with a feature stone fireplace fitted with a wood burning stove, TV and dining area.

There's a lovely cottagey feel about the accommodation continuing into the kitchen, which combines country charm with modern convenience.

Beckside has three double bedrooms, the first with zip linked beds that can be twin or double as required.

This bedroom has a contemporary styled luxury bathroom with separate shower cubicle, basin and WC.

There are a further two double bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms and one with a dressing room.

The owners have paid careful attention to ensuring these properties have as small a carbon footprint as possible, right down to organic cotton and towels, and the use of an air source heat pump and solar panels to power the underfloor heating throughout.

A particular feature of this property is the sun terrace which is situated to take full advantage of the spectacular countryside views - the perfect spot to sit and relax after a busy days sightseeing in the Lakes.

The property is set in 10 acres of idyllic grounds with plentiful wildlife, and views over Paddle Beck.

There's off road parking for one car at the property, while more parking is available over the stream.

The perfect location for friends and family who love nature, Beckside is just three miles from Lorton and nine miles from Keswick.

A large supermarket and friendly pubs can be found in nearby Cockermouth.

Just a short drive from the cottage is the less well known Western Lakes including Buttermere, Loweswater, and Ennerdale, winner of Britain's Best View.

The Lake District is the best-loved country park in the British Isles and is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Spellbinding scenery, spectacular mountains and shimmering lakes combine to make this the most scenic area of Britain.

Enjoy some of the best fine dining in the country, or walk for miles on well-mapped trails.

Bring your mountain bike for some of the best trails action in the country, or take a steamer trip across Lake Windermere.

There's so much to see and do, you'll want to visit at any time of year to take it all in.

Perfectly located for discovering the beautiful and historic Lake District, Beckside is an idyllic and eco-friendly holiday location for friends and family at any time of year.

About the location

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
