“Cosy, well equipped, excellent value in an idyllic location”

Truly a waterside property, the windows overlook the river Cocker. The lounge is toasty warm with gas log stove and ideal location to watch movies on the big tv (easily logged in to Amazon prime and good internet). Kitchen well equipped and bathroom super clean with good shower. We took option for twin beds to be joined to super king size bed in large room. The double bed also had excellent mattress. ...

Supermarket two mins away and Cockermouth itself is a joy. Lots of quirky shops and fantastic ironmongers/ museum and no end of good cafes and restaurants. Within short drive are the stunning valleys of Loweswater and Buttermere. Beautiful at any tie of year. No downsides really, parking is tight to access so we left our van on the council car park over the bridge, 100 m away. A place to which we will return.

The property

Sitting beside the idyllic waterside of the River Cocker, at the centre of the action of the market town of Cockermouth, Waterside Croft can be found in a desirable position for exploring both the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Enter inside this homely abode to find all you could need for a wonderful family holiday; take a seat around the table of the kitchen/diner with a warming cup of tea and map out a fun-filled itinerary for your stay, while the chef of the group makes the most of the good range of appliances at hand for a home-made feast including an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even both a washing machine and dishwasher for those longer stays.

The sitting room with its simple yet stylish interior is where you can end each evening amongst the warmth of the gas woodburning-effect fire in front of the television.

Move upstairs with a refreshing beverage in hand and enjoy a rejuvenating soak in the bath, with a separate shower too for a quick rinse in the morning, before choosing one of the two bedrooms to rest your head.

The property boasts both a double bedroom and a twin with its very own TV so you can watch your favourite shows from the comfort of the covers, as well as this room being made into a super-king-size on request with its handy zip/link functions.

Soak up the splendour of the river each morning out of one of the many windows overlooking it, or pull on your walking boots and step out to explore the excitement up close.

Cockermouth makes a beautiful base all-year-round, best known as being the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian, of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, there's plenty of historic attractions here to explore including the National Trust owned Georgian family home of Wordsworth himself with wonderful exhibition rooms and riverside gardens, it's well-worth exploring.

Cockermouth also offers its visitors a good selection of independent shops, food stores and delicious eateries including pubs, tearooms and restaurants, with its very own golf club too for a truly tranquil day.

Be sure to explore the natural beauty of the area, with the mountain peak of Watch Hill being close by for a leisurely stroll, while the northern lakes of Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water all lie within easy reach too for a more challenging ramble.

Visit the coastal town of Workington to find fantastic shopping experiences, eateries aplenty and a range of family-friendly attractions such as an escape room, leisure centres, the Helena Thompson Museum and more, as well as the Sea to Sea cycle route being available from the town too for a scenic cycle.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
