  • "This cottage is not a little gem."

It is a 24 carat Diamond. Absolutely everything has been thought of. Peaceful and amazing are 2 words i will use. Find out for yourself. Lovely neighbours side and rear. Nice little low maintenance garden.spotlessly clean also. If i had to find one thing its the tv could be a bit bigger. other than that i will be back that i promise.

  • "Beautifully clean and well-equipped property - quiet and perfect for one (or two!"

) My first trip to the Lakes, and it won't be my last. Dearham is a tiny village, but well placed for venturing out, and the Sainsbury's in Cockermouth is actually closer than the one I shop in is to my home.

  • "This was excellent - a tiny cottage but with everything reasonable people could want and a good base from which to explore the far north-west."

The bed is comfortable and beautifully warm and there is plenty of storage space. The shower room and shower are adequate for a property of this size. The living room and dining areas are fine. I think it highly likely that, were we to want to stay in that area again, we'd go back to this property. The only down

  • "This really is a 'Little Gem' of a holiday cottage."

The bed was comfortable, as was the living room furniture. We found that everything we needed in the kitchen for a week's holiday was provided. The location was excellent with a pub, shop and takeaway within a few yards of the cottage. Even the weather was good!

  • "A great little cottage, ideal for one or two people."

Keswick around 30 mins and Ambleside and hour away at a steady drive. So ideal for a walking holiday. The Sun Inn is a short walk, doesn’t do food but great for a friendly drink with locals. A shop and take away more or less on the doorstep. The cottage itself is just a joy with it’s own parking spot to boot. As you can see I was very impressed.

The property

Nestled in the peaceful village of Dearham in Cumbria, is this charming 19th-century cottage.

Little Gem has a light, airy feel to it with plenty of character and charm as well as comfort.

Whether you plan to walk the Lake District hills or visit the many towns and tourist attractions of the area, the cottage will provide you with the ideal base to come back to at the end of the day.

You can savour a glass of wine in the west facing garden, enjoy your evening meal in the bright open-plan kitchen diner and then put your feet up in the cosy living room by the fire.

If you want to nip out to the pub for a drink, then The Sun Inn is just 2 minutes’ walk away.

The Takeaway is 2 doors down so if you’d rather not cook then that’s not a problem.

If you fancy going out for dinner, then there are plenty of excellent gastro pubs and restaurants to be found in the nearby towns and villages.

The local store is handy for a few last-minute groceries, and you’ll be able to fill up with petrol and get some cash out at the garage which is just up the road.

There’s a very good bakery too, called the Cottage Pie, so you can get your sandwiches and cakes for your packed lunch if you are heading out into the hills.

You’ll find lots of useful information at the house about places to go and things to do, to help you plan your next day’s excursions.

The Market town of Cockermouth with its vibrant shops, cafes and restaurants is just a 10 minute drive away.

It’s only 30 minutes drive from Dearham to Keswick which is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts.

As well as exploring the town, you can take a boat trip on Derwent Water and enjoy an evening out at the renowned Theatre by the Lake.

Ambleside and the beautiful Lake Windermere are only another half an hour further on.

Stop at Grasmere on the way where you’ll find the Beatrix Potter Museum and some ‘out of this world’ gingerbread.

Being situated to the west of the National Park, the location of Little Gem is also well suited for people wanting to explore the quieter Western side of the Lake District.

Ennerdale and Eskdale are rugged walking country but the old steam railway will provide you with an easier way to take in the stunning views along the valley.

At Muncaster you can take a tour of the Castle or just enjoy walking the grounds and marvel at the hawk and owl flying display.

On the journey back you could stop at Seascale or St Bees for a walk on the beach and an ice-cream.

North west of Dearham is the Solway firth with its wetlands, Bird watching areas and Nature reserve.

Maryport is a popular seaside town just 10 minute drive from the house where you can visit the Aquarium or take an evening stroll along the harbour, get some fish and chips and watch the sunset over the sea.

Little Gem provides a wonderful retreat for couples or solo travellers and is ready to welcome you.
