Walking distance to all we needed. Kids loved Dock Park! The cottage was just wanted we wanted, plenty of room, clean and home from home. Will be going back for sure!

Absolutely loved the property and area. Perfect location, just a short walk from the town & plenty of varied shops, pubs and places to eat. The museums weren't open (due to Covid19) but this didn't stop us exploring the beaches and local area, lots of places to walk with our dogs. The property was very homely and dog friendly, making our dogs feel at home as no restrictions. The property has plenty of space to spread out, especially with teenagers (&adults) who need their own space at times! Would recommend staying, esp with 4 legged members of the family, as they are just as welcome.

The double bedroom was massive. All you could want from a house. Well stocked crockery and spare bulbs etc. Really enjoyed our time there. Good base for travelling around.

It was warm and cosy with comfortable beds and sofas. The cottage was just a short walk to town and the Ice skating rink. We were in Dumfries for a Ice skating competition the location for us was ideal.

“one weeks holiday.”

we had a holiday in Scotland last year in inverness and decided we would explore more of Scotland not as high up so decided on Dumfries. and the old coach house was chosen for a number of reasons the first being it was dog friendly as our dog goes every where with us. on arrival we found the cottage lovely and clean. and very well equipped. and they certainly love dogs provideing dog bowls and even little treats for our fur babies.the kitchen is spacious and plenty of room to eat at the dinning room table. it has two bathrooms and the bed was very comfortable as well. it is perfectly positioned to just walk into Dumfries if you wish. lovely views over the river. and plenty of places to eat. we visisted Caerlaverock Castle which is basically a ruin but worth a day out and we also toured into Dalbeattie where there is a little museum where dogs can go in and there is no charge either and the man who was there was very informative well worth a visit. i really enjoyed our stay here and very good communication from the owners.i would certainly come back and stay here at this lovely cottage again so thank you to Tracey and Jamie for a lovely stay. “Pathway and front door needed a good clean.”

Property inside needs a through cleaning and decorating. Maintenance not kept to a good a standard. Shower downstairs not constant temp while in use. Upstairs shower, the waste water would not flow away so had to buy plunger to release the water, side of shower has some damage. Seating in the living room has seen better days. Beds comfy, kitchen had everything we needed. Ideal position for walking into town and exploring the area. Property would be ideal if time was spent on cleanliness and decorating.

“The Coach House is spacious, clean and comfy.”

There were only 2 of us and so used the very large bedroom. The bed was so comfy. We had a problem with the gas fire in the sitting room the first morning, one phone call brought the owner round within 20 minutes and he solved the problem. He was so nice. We hadn't done anything wrong, possibly a previous tenant had been tinkering with it. I wasn't sure about Dumfries that first day but as the week progressed it grew on me. A good centre for going out and a lot of history to explore. The coast road, taking in New abbey ( Sweetheart Abbey), Kipford and Rockcliffe is a must, we did it twice. The food at the Boat House in Glencaple is fabulous. Chinese buffet in Friars Vernell in town is also good. The J M Barrie (Peter Pan) museum is brilliant and has a lovely cafe. Anyone with children must visit this.

“Cottage was quite spacious, good size rooms.”

Very quiet area. Could do with a vaccum cleaner on site, especially as the cottage is dog-friendly. We had 3 dogs, and struggled to clean up pet hair with just a swiffer style mop. Good location though, and very easy to travel from to explore the area. lovely little courtyard which catches a lot of sun.

eg, downstairs bathroom, bedroom en-suite, separate lounge, open plan dining, dishwasher! etc. However the house was exceptional and more than met our needs. The facilities and information provided was excellent, as was any contact. Everything within the house was ideal and the surrounding area is perfect for exploring. So much to see within an easy distance. It really was a home from home, we didn't want to leave and we hope to return. Many thanks.

The property

This detached former coach house dates back to the early 19th century and is located near the centre of Dumfries, Scotland.

Known as the Queen of the South, Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh and is the largest town in south west Scotland. It lies close to the mouth of the River Nith as it opens into the Solway Firth. Its origins are mysterious and are believed to involve at various times the ancient Romans, St Ninian and there is evidence of King Arthur having fought battles in the area. It is also held that Malcolm Canmore and William the Conqueror met here in the 11th century and William Wallace pursued the English through the surrounding Nith valley 200 years later. Robert the Bruce killed his rival John Comyn in the Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the town for a few days in the mid 18th century and the poet Robert Burns moved to Dumfries in 1791 and staying until his death five years later. Today Dumfries is a bustling popular town with much to offer the visitor.
