“Our only problem was the steepness of the stairs, my wife's illness meant that it was a struggle to get up the fairly steep stairs at Dash Cottage.”

“A well presented and well equipped cottage in a location that was very convenient for the NE Lakes and coast - we had lovely weather all week, which helped as we explored the coast above Maryport, plus Ullswater, Buttermere and Derwent Water, as well as a trip on the Ravenglass-Eskdale railway.”

The osprey chicks had just hatched, too ! The mobile phone signal was fine, so made up for the lack of specific wi-fi because we could hot-spot our laptops and we weren't around enough to worry about the sitting area being separated from the property. But be warned if you have mobility issues and need to use the bathroom at night that there are three steps down and three narrow steps up between the bedrooms and the bathroom - there is a grab rail to assist.

“Was very disappointed where the garden was, I expected to open doors and I would be in the garden instead if having to walk about 30 steps to get to garden.”

And for the pub being 5 mins away was exactly 15/20 mins walk to find out it is closed due to refub, and no where to really walk our dog.

“Disappointed to find that the garden whilst enclosed as stated was not actually attatched to the house and the dogs had to be on leads to get to it, not exactly convenient in the middle of the night.”

we have seen this before but normally when it is stated in the description we chose not to book those properties, so we suggest it is added to the information online. Also this is the first of your cottages that has not had wifi, though we thought it would not bother us, in fact we needed it for tide times and also to check local events, not having it meant we got caught up in traffic due to cycle event which we could have avoided if we had been able to access the details of the route. Learning experience for us and we will definitely check details and make further enquiries before booking our next trip.

“This was a pleasant cottage but felt a bit 'dated' and resting on its laurels (ie the 2009 'Gold' certificate on display).”

Internally the cottage was clean, the beds were comfy and the kitchen well equipped, however for my taste the living room was a bit dated and sparse. The outside of the property was a little grubby looking and whilst there was a lovely garden which was a real suntrap there were no comfortable outside seats. Sitting on a hard wooden picnic table for any length of time isn't really a viable way to enjoy the sun - although ideal for eating a meal al fresco. We were very fortunate to have fantastic weather but enjoyment of the outside space was compromised by the lack of comfortable seating. The setting was lovely, although much nearer to the busy A66 than anticipated. The location is very convenient for getting to nearby attractions. I really enjoyed my stay, as did my companion and my dog, but in comparison to other cottages that I have stayed for similar price felt the standard was not comparable.

“Relaxing spacious property. A real gem.”

Quite secluded but peaceful. A perfect base to access all notable locations in the Lakes. Our 2 small dogs settled quickly. A nearby pub is 10/15 mins walk away. Serving good quality food. Otherwise stock up and make use of the modern fully equipped kitchen. A very good sized bathroom complete with shower cubicle. On arrival we found muffins and a pint of milk waiting in the kitchen. Very hospitable.

“Great Stay”

This is an excellent holiday let. Spotlessly clean with a modern kitchen and quite a spacious bathroom. It was very comfortable too. It is near the main road which you can hear in the distance from the house and the courtyard is small and away from the house, however, these factors did not stop us from having a wonderful holiday. Being near the road meant that we could easily travel around the area. There is a Sainsbury's in Cockermouth which is very convenient too. Check well in advance what time the key will be available to collect.

The property

Dash Cottage is a pretty and cosy little Cumbrian cottage nestled in the north west of the Lake District.

With lovely views over open countryside, the cottage is only 2 miles from Lake Bassenthwaite in the charming village of Embleton. About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
