  • "Great location, plenty of space for large family, private courtyard good for dogs."

Dining room wouldn't fit 8 though although additional space in kitchen. "En-suite" actually a walk down the hall, could do with smart tvs. Lacked couple of basics in kitchen, ie collander. Overall though this is good accommodation and would use again if back in the area.

  • "This large property is excellent for a bigger group, it is centrally located near shops, pubs etc and has everything you need."

The kitchen is well stocked and having a few items in the cupboards (tea, coffee. salt, pepper etc) is a good idea, the 2 bottles of wine a lovely touch. The property is very clean, the rooms spacious and we found the drying room very useful after such a wet weekend. The only downside is the garage which we couldn't use as modern cars are larger than the actual opening, needs a wider door like those nearby. Overall we would recommend this property and we would certainly book again if our group is in the area.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Cobbleken."

The house was great and had everything we needed. The only issue we had was that we couldn't actually park two cars as stated on the property information - the garage was just too small to park in it. So that was a bit misleading, and we needed to then find and pay for alternate parking. But other than that - it was as described and a great location.

The property

Set in the heart of Cockermouth, Cumbria, is Cobbleken, a fantastic, dog-friendly property, set over three floors.

Inviting eight guests, the home rests centrally in the pretty market town of Cockermouth, enveloped by amenities, attractions, and picturesque riverside vistas, making it perfect for families or couples looking to explore the Lake District or coast.

Outside you’ll arrive to two private parking spaces, a cold-water tap, and a private courtyard, complete with outdoor furniture, ideal for alfresco mealtimes.

Head indoors to reach the snug, perfect for warming up in front of the woodburning stove after a day of adventure, whilst next door you will locate the utility, complete with copious space to dry clothes, walking boots, wet weather gear and store bikes, whilst freshening up your four-legged companion.

Ascending to the first floor, be welcomed into an open-plan living space, with everything you’ll need to prepare and serve nourishing meals, gather as a group, and relax; there’s also a further sitting room to retreat to, complete with a rustling woodburning stove.

Completing the first floor is a king-size bedroom with TV, along with a sleek shower room.

Continue to the second floor where you’ll find three well-appointed bedrooms, including two king-size bedrooms and a twin, serviced by a bathroom; all beds and linen are of high quality to give you ample rest after your day in the hills!

Prepare to explore Cockermouth, which rests on the edge of the Lake District National Park and offers a hub of cafés, independent shops, and restaurants, making it an ideal base for a self-catered stay.

Within proximity, enjoy strolls alongside Derwent River, running adjacent castle walls and Wordsworth House (home to William Wordsworth) whose beautiful walled garden inspired poetry.

By car reach Keswick and several local fells including Skiddaw, Sale Fell and Ling Fell, whilst activities are plentiful, including golf, walking trails, mountain biking for all types of levels, possible to hire in the area, and visits to the Lake District Wildlife Park; on wet days, be sure to visit the Aquarium at Maryport or brush up on your local knowledge at Keswick Museum.

Scenic walks around Buttermere and Crummock Water offer an insight into the rolling hills and wildlife of the local countryside, so why not spend an afternoon kayaking across the lakes or enjoying a picnic with a scenic view?

From here, the dramatic landscape can be taken in from trails leading to Grasmoor, Mellbreak, Robinson and Red Pike and along to Scale Force Waterfall.

However you spend your break, make memories at Cobbleken.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
