“The cottage was in a perfect location, such a pity that the owner has had to sell.”
We all enjoyed our stay very much. Very friendly village.
We all enjoyed our stay very much. Very friendly village.- Mrs Carter, September 2021
Beds were super comfy. Loved the sun room in the morning to enjoy the view. The garden was flat and great for backyard cricket lol. Absolutely loved the shower too, hot and fantastic pressure. The log burner made the lounge so cosy! We ate at the Nith Hotel one lunchtime and the food was lovely. The only slight downside was that the kitchen wasn’t equipped with everything we needed. No oven gloves, no sugar, no milk on arrival, no oil for cooking. I would suggest getting a Tesco or Morrison’s delivery for the day you get there. The washing machine was great but an airer would have been good to be able to hang washing. Also no dust pan and brush. Another note would be to add kids cutlery and bowls but not essential I know. Just a few practical things we missed but overall we had the most fantastic holiday. A fab location for exploring the area. If you have kids Mabie Farm park is a must! We will be back! Such a great place!- Mrs Crawford, August 2020
“The cottage was perfect.”
It was perfectly clean and well decorated. The layout was perfect for my parents with mobility problems. They had the downstairs bedroom with en-suite. The cottage had a lovely garden which had the sun all day. The dining room kitchen was perfect for family meals and games. The lounge was well furnished and comfortable for relaxing at the end of the day. The sun room was ideal for early morning coffee and watching the world go by. The cottage was ideally located with the Boat House restaurant and the Nith Hotel restaurant only 2 mins walk away. I can recommend both these places as the food was excellent. The owners of Rowan Cottage have made every effort to ensure your stay is amazing. The only things that would make it better would be to supply over gloves and a washing line to dry clothes. Would definitely consider booking again.- Ms Lister, August 2020
“Arriving at the cottage (Scotland, mid-November) we were disappointed to find the place freezing cold and the pre-set heating not due to come on for another hour!”
Please consider putting the heating on on prior to guests' arrival. Otherwise a comfortable cottage in a great location.- Mrs Ribbands, November 2019
“The cottage was more than we expected.”
Everything was there that you possibly need it was like home from home- Mrs Riley, April 2019
“We had a thoroughly lovely relaxing break at the cottage - we travelled with my Mum in her 80s and our 5 year old daughter and Beau, the Golden Retriever - everyone had a great time - Emily loved the cottage, the dog loved the fantastic walks from the doorstep and we all loved the sunroom.”
The facilities are great - only a couple of things that would be useful like a mop, perhaps some oven gloves and a teatowel...but basically as a base for our holiday it was exactly as it was described and we were all delighted. The area of Glencaple was only 10 or so mins out of Dumfries where there are loads of shops, and it was so peaceful. I will definitely use Sykes again and if I wanted to come back to the area, I wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again.- Mrs Jenkinson, April 2019
