  • "Great cottage and enjoyed our stay."

Minor improvements: Safety mat in en suite shower Facilities for separating recycling would be good Guests are meant to leave the wheelie bin out on Thursdays but it would be good if owner/cleaner could check this has been done so that there is at least some space in the wheelie bin for the new arrivals.

  • "Lovely place to stay."

It is in the middle of nowhere which is part of the joy, but also the hassle. House was well equipped, clean and comfortable in the main although the mattress in the main master bedroom takes some getting used to. There is a slight damp smell on entering the house which settles once in for a while, to be expected given the age of the property and the weather patterns for the location.

  • "Superb location on the edge of the National Park in a handsome village with a great pub and shop."

The cottage’s garden is a great place to rest your weary feet, taking in the sights and sounds after a day’s walking.

  • "The cottage hadn't been cleaned, apparently because Sykes had not informed the cleaners of the booking."

The help phone numbers in the Sykes information pack are both wrong.

  • "Lovely cottage with everything you need, love the radio!"

Garden was great and loved the seating areas, will definitely love to come back for another stay as still more local Wainwright to tick off. Feels very remote and secluded but only 10 mins from Cockermouth and a brilliant local village shop and pub within a stones throw.

  • "We had an amazing holiday."

The location is superb and the cottage is comfortable with lovely beds. Our only observations were that were no recycling facilities and the front downstairs of the cottage smelled rather damp but this did not spoil our enjoyment.

Would certainly rebook & recommend to friends

  • "The property was in a perfect position for discovering the Western Lakes."

However, we did find it cold most evenings. The fire came in useful, unfortunately there were no starter logs on offer. The local shop had some but I have been to other properties where the fire was ready to put on for the first night. Also other places have provided kitchen towels, foil, clingfilm and sugar.

  • "Kent Cottage was a perfect base with great walks straight from the doorstep."

The cottage is very comfortable and cozy. It also had everything we needed for our stay. We would definitely like to return again sometime.

  • "The property is in a great location and is very cosy."

It would have been nice to have a few logs for the fire when we first arrived or to know in advance what to bring so we could have had a fire on the first night. I think the info about the local shop opening is out of date. We couldn't find any information about where we might get heart of the lakes discounts using the card. I didn't expect to get discounts but saying that we could get them and then not telling us where was frustrating. It was nice thst there were a few games for rainy days and we had a lovely stay.

  • "Lovely cottage in peaceful and beautiful location."

Lots of people visit several times and this was our second visit. Beware a couple of low doorways, otherwise fabulous. Wonderful to stay in such a historic and comfortable cottage.

We loved the scenery and the accessibility to Winlatter Forest Park. Kent Cottage was cosy and a great base to explore the Lake District.

  • "It was absolutely brilliant - the only thing we thought was useful as feedback is that we did realise the low doorways weren’t mentioned in the blurb for the cottage and my 6’3 partner thought it would be useful to advise of that in the description of the cottage."

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
