  • "Located in a great area for walking, cycling & running."

Also for visiting Keswick for shopping. Cottage clean and tidy and well appointed. Being a working farm expect sheep, dogs and quad bike noise starting around 07.10am.

  • "The cottage is ideally situated for visiting the Lakes."

I never tired of my early morning walk with my dogs which began just across the road from the cottage, at times I almost felt I was walking amongst the clouds, stunning views. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, we will definitely be back. Just one thing, do not panic when your sat nav tells you that you have arrived at your destination, fortunately your accommodation is a little further along the road!

  • "Although the description said no Wifi there was also no mobile connection which we felt should be specified as one of the party had to connect to work which proved awkward."

Also, although a lovely cottage the long winding narrow roadway to it could be a bit daunting. The holiday was, however, great we enjoyed it beautiful surroundings.

!! Absolutely loved it, spotlessly clean, comfortable, home from home, beautiful surroundings, and the hosts were lovely, took our 11 year old Labrador Jake who loved his doggy holiday to, would we return? Most definitely...thank you for a lovely break.

  • "This was our first visit to Peter House Cottage and our original reason for coming was to get away from the fireworks and loud bangs over the 5th November as our dog Evie is petrified of them."

It was ideal for her as we didn't hear any sounds over the whole week. Super personal touches when we arrived - flowers, shortbread biscuits, cake and milk, as well as fresh eggs every day! We had a wonderfully relaxing week and even managed to see a beautiful red squirrel from the lounge window. Open fire fantastic and super warm - A great axe to split the wood with. A great place to stay.....we will be back!!

About the location

BASSENTHWAITE

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), LAke District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
