  • "Dogs hairs under the chair cushions, loose electrical blank in kitchen, toilet roll holder hanging off with fluff behind so has been like this for some time."

Dear Sharon Having paid £1208 for the week I expected the cottage to be in a better condition than we found it. I would be reluctant to book through Sykes cottages again 1. Towels, almost thread bare 2 throughly cleaned? Dust on skirting boards, windowsill , cobwebs hanging from wall and face mask down beside chest of drawers 3 bulb needed in lounge light 4 oven trays too wide to fit in oven 5 knife missing from knife rack 6 headboard in back bedroom, not fixed to bed so moves against the wall when you turnover in bed 7 rubber loose on shower screen 8 hard pillows 9 mattress uncomfortable,so using duvet from spare bed to make the bed comfortable 10 update the information to reflect the fact that the launderette opposite the property is closed 11 draft from back door when closed On the plus side 1 free Wi-Fi 2 dishwasher 3 clean kitchen and fridge Regards Mary [image0.jpeg][image1.jpeg][image2.jpeg][image3.jpeg][image4.jpeg][image5.jpeg][image6.jpeg][image8.jpeg][image9.jpeg][image10.jpeg] Sent from my iPad

  • "There is no way this cottage is dog friendly, there is no secure garden to let a dog out, and your description of the area with the bench doesn't explain this is on the parking area near the road!"

Although the cottage looked clean, the kitchen cupboard doors felt sticky, and I noticed the paintwork going up the stairs was dirty. This cottage is ideal for a couple, and should not be described as dog friendly at all. I was very disappointed, and will not book the cottage again.

  • "Small living room, settees were very uncomfortable and stained."

Kitchen crockery not washed properly, shower was poor and didn't work properly. Bed was comfortable however bedding was stained and could do with new set. Kitchen was a good size and had pretty much everything needed however top oven and grill did not work. Good location and two parking spaces was a god send.

  • "We arrived on Friday afternoon and left Saturday morning."

We booked what we thought was a dog friendly cottage but we didn’t find it so. We didn’t know until we arrived that dogs were not allowed upstairs until we saw a notice on the wall in the kitchen. When I rang to say we would be leaving I was informed that it states in the terms and conditions about not being allowed upstairs, which I unfortunately didn’t see or I wouldn’t have booked. We were all tired as we had travelled from Prestatyn North Wales so decided to stay until the next morning. Consequently I slept downstairs on the settee with the dogs as they are not used to being shut away from us at night and I didn’t want to disturb the neighbours. I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis in my neck and lower back so it was impossible for me to remain sleeping on the settee, my husband couldn’t sleep there either as he suffers from Sleep Apnoea and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Neither of us had a restful night, both felt awful and not looking forward to the long drive home. We were extremely disappointed the way things had turned out, we were so looking forward to time in the Lake District as we had never visited before. Also from the picture that shows the rear of the cottage I wrongly surmised that was the front and, as stated, the small patio would be on the other side of the property fenced off in some way so that we could let the dogs out to do their toilet, which of course it wasn’t as the front door opens straight into the street. So consequently we had to keep taking them out on the lead during the evening and night to do their toilet. As a suggestion to keep the consumer fully informed maybe where it says ‘dog friendly’ then the terms should accompany that statement and not be written in a lengthy section of terms and conditions. I booked with Sykes Cottages on recommendation, but I feel very wary of booking again. Although it was out decision to go home the next day to lose that amount of money, almost £600.00, being retired and one of us a pensioner we can I’ll afford it.

  • "Our holiday to the Lake District via Sykes Cottages was incredibly awesome!"

We absolutely love the Lakes and are planning another trip already. Jill’s Cottage is a quaint lovely little cottage almost in the heart of Keswick, it had everything we needed, however we would not consider staying here again unless the mattress to the bed was changed, we have never had such an uncomfortable nights sleep and we ended up on the sofa/floor for the remaining nights. This really was the only let down for us, but by no means did we let this ruin our holiday. Apart from the bed(s) the cottage was perfect.

  • "Our problem with the front door was speedily resolved in the office by Fiona, who was friendly and helpful."

Keswick is a great little town and the cottage is nicely close to the centre. The car space is a boon as there is clearly competition for on-road parking. Great scenery and walks in the area and The Puzzle Place is an amazing surprise.

What made it even better for us was the fact that we had wall to wall sunshine every day of our stay.

  • "We thought the cottage was rather dated but this was clear from the pictures when choosing from the website and did not mar our stay."

The location was brilliant. The cottage was cosy and very well appointed with all that we needed and more.

  • "Although we wanted a cottage close to amenities if you are sleeping in the twin room to the front of the house then you will need ear plugs the street is very noisy all through the night with taxi cars coming and going the taxi drivers talking on their radios no mention of the taxi firm which operates from their offices a few metres away from the cottage."

The patio area at the b back of the cottage is described as an area to hide from the hustle and bustle but with a hotel to the rear of the cottage and a row of about 10 waste bins this was not the case, however if none of this bothers you then this cottage is certainly close to the town .

  • "We had no towels available when we arrived on Friday night and didn’t get any for 3 day’s."

..I think you need a local person on hand to deal with problems......every time we rang up we got through to Chester after being passed on through about 6 options. And if you are serious about looking after guests as well as maximising profits you would have a person available to do just this. It’s not on to expect guests to collect their own towels from the office. Is this not part of the service? Also we had to collect the key from the office before we could get in. Be aware that it would be much easier for guests if harder for you if the key was at the house in a key box....what a pain to try and find your office in a one way street after driving a long way and feeling tired and wanting to settle in. The heating broke down for a short time. The plug got stuck in the bath so we couldn’t use it for a short time. No instructions in the house or welcome pack......no tourist information...never got the dvd to work at all. The house was clean so please don’t blame the cleaners. We are experienced users of holiday cottages all over the uk. Other cottages in Keswick where we have stayed provide a better, caring service...can I suggest you have a local person available with a local phone number who can be contacted over the weekend as well if necessary...and without having to phone Chester....do think about how to improve your service for guests and make them feel welcome....
