  • "This is our second time staying at The Croft and absolutely loved it."

The property is a lovely spot to come back to after walking for hours every day, whether it be the lake/meres/waters or hills nearby. The welcome pack is a nice treat as means you can have a cuppa or coffee after a long drive & the bottle of Prosecco was very appreciated too. Plenty of firewood to get the fire going & the property is well heated throughout. The only minor improvement that could be made is some hooks by the hot tub, to hang up towels/dressing gowns and keep them dry, other than that we really do not have a single complaint. We’re already looking at when we are next coming back! For anyone that visits the Croft we can recommend the following pubs/food places which were great with the dogs: The Sun Inn - super friendly, good pub food & the staff could not be more helpful in providing local recommendations. The Coledale Inn - huge portion sizes, lovely food & dog friendly The Bistro @ the lakes distillery - dog friendly in the outdoor seating section. Food was great & you can sample the locally distilled whiskeys, gins or vodkas. If you use an app called AllTrails, we did the following routes which we could recommend: Dodd Wood Circular Buttermere Circular Barrow Fell Circular Sale Fell Circular

  • "We had a lovely stay and the location is brilliant."

We loved the log burner and hot tub and the closeness to the lake. It is a lovely cottage and I would recommend it. We would love to stay again. Only small things, but would improve the cottage. The main bedroom really needs some proper curtains, it was really hard to sleep when it was so light on a morning. One of the trays does not fit in either oven, so trying to cook for 6 of us was tricky. There is also a broken drawer in the freezer and it would really help to have some extra plates. With 6 of us we had to wash up after every meal and had no spare plates for serving.

  • "Some of the outside lights not working, fence between properties not very private when in hot tub and a few of the blinds in bedroom 1 damaged or missing."

Only small things which didn't spoil our holiday. 5* thanks

  • "The property itself is lovely and the photos don’t do it justice."

The location is also great. Unfortunately, our trip was ruined by a couple of things- one of which is not the fault of the owner. Firstly, the bit than can be fixed, is the security light that is constantly flashing on and off outside the bedroom by the living room. This lights up the room all night and makes sleeping hard work. We put a black bag over it in the end to stop it but it could do with some attention. The other issue was the people staying at the place next door. They were out in the hot tubs shouting and screaming will into the early hours (3am both nights), refused to turn down the music or keep the noise levels down and due to where they were situated, they were right outside the other bedroom. I had to spend 2 of the 3 nights on the couches. They also threw items of clothing and cigarette ends over the fence which we had to clean up to save the deposit. It is very unfortunate but for this reason, I would not recommend staying at the Croft. If you fall lucky with neighbours or the other property is empty, then this is a lovely place to stay. But if you’re unfortunate like us, a 3 day break becomes a complete waste of money.

Hi Oliver, I'm really sorry you had such an experience with us. we have resolved the lighting issue. Sykes did contact us about the noise issue, but unfortunately this was out of office hours, so we didn't pick the message up until the Monday, check out day. I am very sorry you experienced antisocial behaviour issues, and it has highlighted an area which needs to be corrected. I have made sure that in future booking notes, guests contact us directly to nip these kind of issues in the bud. I sincerely hope you would consider staying with us again and I would welcome you to rebook, and please speak to Andy in the office at Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges if you would like to. • "Excellent cottage and location."

Would recommend and return in the future. Small negative is the hot tub set up, if the neighbours were using their hot tub at the same time, their would be very little privacy, luckily it wasn't an issue for our stay. The outside light also needs changing as it's on and off all night if you are staying in the 1 bedroom off the lounge, something that can be easily fixed. Real cosy feel to the cottage but spacious too with a view towards the lake, lovely set up

Hi Marc, We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your feedback. We have adjusted the outside light that was troubling you (sorry about that) and have also solved the privacy issue by infilling the gaps in the fence next to the hot tub to shield it from view of the neighbouring property. Thank you and hopefully see you again. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at the cottage however we felt there could be some slight improvements."

The kitchen utensils need to be checked. The roasting trays were rusty, tin opener did not work & some items listed on the itinerary were missing. The cottage was comfortable and we loved the access to the lake.

Thank you for your comments and feedback. It is always nice to hear when our guests have had a lovely stay. The kitchen utensils have been checked and replaced where needed, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "From the moment we booked to the time we left this place was just fantastic."

The cottage was beautiful, the area just as lovely. It was very quiet, we briefly saw owls, then a hare on the patio, we felt that we were properly away from it all which was just what we wanted. The cottage was very well thought out, well equipped and very comfortable. The owners left a couple of bottles of beer and some Prosecco, some stuff for our dogs, very nice and much appreciated gestures. We loved it there. There was a tv in all 3 bedrooms as well as the lounge, the open plan kitchen lounge was awesome with multiple choice lighting options, so well thought out. The stroll down to Bassenthwaite lake was just so lovely. We couldn’t possibly have enjoyed this place anymore than what we did. Utterly fantastic, we really hope to come again some time.

Thank you for your comment, it is very much appreciated. We are so glad that you had a great time and enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

  • "Overall lovely stay and was impressed with the cleanliness and loved the location."

Really enjoyed the stay and will definitely be booking again!! We could have done with a few additional basic items in the kitchen like foil, cling film, kitchen roll, salt / pepper mill. The tap needs fixing in place as it turns in its base. Also the tiles in the en-suite shower don’t seem well attached to the wall… the whole tiles had a lot of movement in them. Not a problem at all but could potentially come loose in the future. Privacy with next door hot tubs would be nice. The way the fence is and the hot tubs being offset means you can see directly through. Again not a problem for us as I don’t think anyone else was there when we stayed, but it would have been uncomfortable if there was. A few extra notes in the welcome pack would have been helpful. Like a map with directions to local pubs, shops, and if there were in waking distance. Also there was a private field directly opposite the cottage for residents only. It wasn’t clear if we could go into this field and would have been really nice bonus if we could have used this to walk down the lake. We didn’t in case we weren’t allowed, but it’s a shame we missed out on this if we were allowed and it just wasn’t made clear. The biggest thing for us was the early check out. Everywhere else we’ve stayed 10 am seems normal, so to be al packed up and gone by 9am was quite early in our opinion.

Thank you for staying at our cottage, we are so glad that you enjoyed the stay and will look to book again. For future reference you are allowed to use the field opposite and can also wander through to Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges for a better view of the lake, there is a reception area in the park that you can use to gather maps and leaflets of the local area. We will be looking at amending the early check out time. As a valued customer we appreciate the great comments and are glad that you have brought these constructive points to our attention, so that we can look at getting them rectified. Thank you again for your feedback, much appreciated. Property Owner
