"What a wonderful find!"
The property was well decorated, clean and tidy. The location was perfect. A really cosy and comfy place. Thank you :)
"A lovely place and as I already informed Sykes, it was spoilt a little for us due to the TV and DVD issues."
We don’t go out in the evenings and like to relax with a film, however the DVD wasn’t working and we were told a new one was arriving but it never did. The free view channel didn’t work and someone came out on day 4 to fix it. However this did connect to the internet but they didn’t check if freeview worked. It constantly said “freeview initialising” . So nothing for us to watch all week except for news / normal TV. Real shame as otherwise it was lovely.
"We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage."
It is in a very convenient location with everything needed for a relaxing break. The cottage is very clean, warm and well equipped and we wouldn't hesitate to book again - a wonderful find!
"Fantastic location, everything right on the doorstep."
A very clean and well equipped cottage. The parking space was a little tricky, and quite a lot of noise from the road.
Very cosy cottage and ideally situated. The only problem is the early checkout time of 9am. Far too early. Confusing as the book inside cottage stated 10am. Will visit again.
"Lovely cottage would definitely stay there again"
"The Old Betting shop was very clean and comfortable - just a few small maintenance jobs been doing - and the location in the centre of Keswick was perfect for us."
Should we wish to be in the Keswick area again we would definitely book the cottage again.
"Lovely well furnished cottage."
All the kitchen things you need to cook regularly simple meals. Big rooms. The TV had iplayer which was good. Great to have coat hooks for wet coats & boot tray. Parking was a bit difficult. I parked about 10 mins walk away, for free. Good location, but a bit noisy as next to the main road, but there wasn’t much traffic between 10 & 6.
"We stayed for a week at the Betting Shop in Keswick."
Firstly in terms of central location you can't do better, but with this you do get a lot of road noise and the daily CO-OP deliveries at 6:30am, so not one for any light sleepers! There is a back bedroom which is quieter but this does not have blackout curtains, so is very bright. The parking space at the back is a bonus but very awkward. If there is anyone staying in the adjacent cottage with a car and you have anything bigger than a golf estate you will not be able to get into the space. The outside space is handy for drying clothes but be aware it is literally a table and chair in a carpark which is used by 3 cottages and a tea room. The cottage itself was airy and modern, however we arrived on the Friday to be informed the internet was not working, this was a major problem for us as we run our own business and need to check emails, website daily. We also had our 11 year old with us who likes some chill out time in the evening on his tablet, so he was really disappointed given it was his holiday. The lack of WIFI also meant limited TV channels so we looked to the selection of DVDs left and decided to watch one of them, this is when we then discovered the DVD and TV were not connected and after much scratching of heads realised they were in fact not even compatible! The users guides in the booklet were out of date and referred to completely different TVs and DVDs, and clearly the cottage owner or Skyes had not taken the time when the items had been replaced to setup and check everything worked. We thought this was very disappointing given the money spent on hiring the cottage. The internet and DVD were eventually fixed/replaced on the Tuesday afternoon. So for 4 out of 7 nights we were without internet and a DVD player. We also had an issue with the bins. The welcome booklet states you are to use the bin at the neighbouring property, however that property is also a rental and according to the people staying there was nothing in their cottage telling them of the arrangement. It might not bother some, but we felt very awkward putting our rubbish in a bin marked 'For use of XX property only' and think this needs addressing. No one wants to go on holiday and have to deal with domestic issues like that. The owner offered £20 compensation but we felt given the amount we'd paid for the cottage, plus the length of time we were without these services and the time and hassle wasted reporting and being available for them to be resolved that the amount offered was unacceptable. So to conclude this holiday was marred by a variety of issues, most of them down to poor maintenance/administration and although the cottage was modern and central, we would not choose to stay here again.
"We had a wonderful stay in this lovely quirky cottage."
Very close to all facilities but still quiet and relaxing. We would highly recommend The Old Betting Shop and will stay again.
"Car parking space is difficult to use."
Only usable with a small car.
"We were little disappointed with the outside space at back of property."
Photos were deceptive as it looked like a lovely space to sit outside when it was actually the carpark and driveway to tea shop. We loved the cottage as beautifully decorated and furnished. Just 1 suggestion is bigger bath towels ; -) Thanks Syskes as very impressed with your Website and App, very informative and thought all the emails kept us updated.
"A lovely homely cottage, spotlessly clean, very well equipped and right in the centre of Keswick."
When we arrived, the heating had just come on and it was so nice to arrive to some warmth. The cottage is bigger than it looks in the photos, the kitchen is very modern and to a high standard, and so was the bathroom. The bedrooms were good sizes with plenty of storage space. Parking was a little tight, but we managed. The location is ideal, 2 mins walk into the centre of Keswick and all the bars and restaurants. We only had one slight issue - the SMART TV is connected to an EE box, but doesn't appear to be connected to an aerial, as despite our best efforts we couldn't get any terrestrial/freeview channels, ie no BBC or ITV, and the only viewing options were the rather obscure apps on the EE box. I will email Sykes about this separately, as they may not be aware of this. But overall this is one of the best cottages we've stayed in, and (if they get the TV sorted out) we wouldn't hesitate to re-book.
"This is a fantastic, comfortable little cottage with excellent facilities in a perfect, town centre location, opposite the Co-op, so food and drink is only 20 paces away and it's a good place to park to load & unload on arrival / departure if you can't use the parking space behind the cottage."
Speaking of the parking space, it's tricky to get to and is accessed via the archway, not the wooden gate next to the cottage,. It's behind a metal gate but there's more room for a car than we expected (although we had pre-booked parking elsewhere). The only (extremely minor) 'issue' we had was that we couldn't find an outside bin for general waste - just one for glass & plastic recycling outside the back door. We'd definitely stay here again.
"Lovely warm, cozy cottage on Main Road."
It was larger than the photos implied. Lovely homely feel to it. Two double rooms both a good size. Immaculately clean. Lovely soft towels on arrival. No pets allowed and it is very clearly pet free - my son has allergies and this was a worry, but it absolutely has had no pets. You can’t get avoid hearing the busy road, but this means it has a brilliant location with all amenities on your doorstep.
"We loved The Old Betting Shop it was perfect for our needs and so convenient for everything."
Coved 19 did nit help but we made the most of it.
"Ideal location for our needs i."
E. walking, shops, transport.

Brilliant location, lovely cottage, really couldnt ask for anything else, nipping clean with all facilities you could need, would definitely return and would recommend this cottage to anyone
"Lovely cottage in an ideal location."
"Loved the quality of the cottage and it’s facilities and location."
Cleanliness of the cottage was not to a good standard, Hoover hadn’t been emptied for months and was crammed full of dirt... toaster was the same and unclean and the outside bin was unusable as it was full until we put this out for collection, meaning trips to public bin down the road for the weekend. There was also no recycling bin despite being mentioned, neighbours had their clearly labelled for their use only.
"Absolutely loved the property and it’s location couldn’t of been more perfect."
The parking was difficult at first but we easily adapted to it and found no problems. Just to ensure the listing for the property is accurate. Listing identified that a high chair would be available and there wasn’t , but had a travel cot which we were told on a live chat wouldn’t be there was. We would definitely stay here again. Thank You
"A charming cottage."
Perfect location near public transport, pubs, shops, restaurants. Interior beautifully presented, fresh and bright. Excellently equipped kitchen. Could happily have moved in here and will certainly return. Thank you Sykes.
"Where do I start !"
!!! The best holiday ever in the lakes. The family and I always choose Keswick for our holiday destination every year. A charming Rustic village town surrounded by hills and lakes. Our choice of accommodation on this occasion was outstanding and suited our needs in every detail. The Old Betting Shop cottage has a lot of history behind it and is situated at the bottom of the village town. This was home from home for us as it was charming, the layout was ideal, well equipped facilities, well maintained, fresh and clean, parking area at the rear. Thus enabling the family and I to forget about the car for the week wine and dine every night and long walks, parks and of course lots of shopping that we just managed to fit in lol. You have everything at your door step. We are going to book for 2 weeks next year as we were not ready to go home after the week. Highly recommend the Old Betting Shop Cottage. I would also like to say from start to finish with the booking of this cottage Sky Cottages were amazing. A Step by Step procedure and kept up to date at all times to collecting the keys. Thank you The Old Betting Shop Thank you Sky Cottages See you next year. The McNair family.
"Location was less than 5 minutes walk from Co-Op and Booth's supermarkets, which was very useful!"
"Great location with everything you need for a great stay."
Really cosy feel and a lovely place to relax after a day of hiking. Huge benefit to have a parking space too!
"The cottage is convenient for shops, public transport, eating and the fantastic Lakes."
It is in a very busy part of Keswick but we had a great holiday. We did plenty walks without needing to use the car.
