The property

Carlisle 12.2 miles.

A mid-terrace cottage resting in the quaint old village of Port Carlisle, Crinan Cottage has been wonderfully prepared to provide stunning holiday accommodation.

Once part of a large storage building for the old railway, this quaint property now offers a family or group of six the chance to enjoy an outdoors adventure in the county of Cumbria.

Enter into the open-plan living space very thoughtfully decorated to provide a tranquil place to unwind, with a seating area which is home to some sumptuous leather sofas resting in front of the antique woodburning stove, you won't want to leave your spot.

A long farmhouse-style dining table lies in the centre, offering a seat for everyone to gather around and feast on whatever has been rustled up in the elegant fitted kitchen.

Housing a large double oven, the limits are endless on what you can create here, as well as having a washing machine and a tumble dryer, especially convenient for those longer stays.

Indulge in a hot shower at the end of a long day in the ground-floor shower room, with beautiful marble-effect walls and quality fixtures.

Head upstairs to the first floor in the evening to find your resting spot; come to the double room first which benefits from plenty of storage for your personal items, next door is the twin room and finally the king-size master bedroom complete with an en-suite shower room, featuring the same high-quality look as the shower room, and the first-floor family bathroom.

Thanks to the magnolia walls, light and bright colour scheme and excellent bed linen, the bedrooms create a perfect ambiance to drift away in.

A pretty enclosed garden outside can be best enjoyed in summer with a crisp drink in hand as the children play on the lawn.

The Hadrian's Wall Path is practically on your doorstep and provides a fantastic way to begin exploring the area, heading from the coast inland towards the historic city of Carlisle and beyond over the North Pennines AONB.

Head in the other direction down to Silloth further South West, where brightly painted houses rest on tree-lined streets and a luscious sea front green provides a lovely place to stroll along with the sea view.

Around an hour’s drive will bring you to the Lake District town of Keswick, passing the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake on the way as well as many other fells to be explored.

Crinan Cottage is a wondrous home awaiting the arrival of you and your loved ones for a holiday to remember in Cumbria.

About the location

CARLISLE

Gretna Green 13.1 miles; Penrith 19.9 miles; Dumfries 36.2 miles

Carlisle is set in the county of Cumbria, situated just 10 miles south of the Scottish Borders and is nicknamed the Border City. During Roman times the town was established to serve the forts for Hadrian's Wall, which runs east from the city across the country to Wallsend on the east coast and today is recognised as a World Heritage Site. During the Middle Ages, due to its proximity to the Kingdom of Scotland, Carlisle became an important military stronghold and Carlisle Castle, still relatively intact, was built in 1092 by William Rufus, after once serving as a prison for Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle now houses the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and the Border Regiment Museum. In the early 12th century Henry I allowed the foundation of a priory in Carlisle and the town gained the status of a diocese in 1122, resulting in the priory becoming Carlisle Cathedral. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs across some of the most breathtaking scenery to the popular Yorkshire town and Carlisle Racecourse has a packed fixture list including Ladies’ Day and evening fixtures. Within driving distance is the Victorian seaside town of Silloth and just over the border is Gretna Green, where you'll find the Gretna Gateway Shopping Centre and Anvil Hall, the famous wedding venue.
